About the author

Many works, including Siddhartha (1922) and Steppenwolf (1927), of German-born Swiss writer Hermann Hesse concern the struggle of the individual to find wholeness and meaning in life; he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1946.

Other best-known works of this poet, novelist, and painter include The Glass Bead Game , which, also known as Magister Ludi, explore a search of an individual for spirituality outside society.

In his time, Hesse was a popular and influential author in the German-speaking world; worldwide fame only came later. Young Germans desiring a different and more "natural" way of life at the time of great economic and technological progress in the country, received enthusiastically Peter Camenzind , first great novel of Hesse.

Throughout Germany, people named many schools. In 1964, people founded the Calwer Hermann-Hesse-Preis, awarded biennially, alternately to a German-language literary journal or to the translator of work of Hesse to a foreign language. The city of Karlsruhe, Germany, also associates a Hermann Hesse prize.

Raccolti qui, in questo libretto di poco meno di 100 pagine, 3 racconti che hanno come tema centrale: la gioventù, la giovinezza, quel periodo della vita dove tutto è sorpresa, tutto è scoperta, dove la mente vagabonda in sogni di felicità, amore, disincantata...
In Bella è la gioventù, racconto che dà il titolo a questa raccolta: la storia, chiaramente autobiografica, verte sul ritorno a casa di un giovanotto, dopo anni passati in giro per le grandi città. La casa di campagna e il ritorno alle origini dove rincontra i familiari, tanto cari, fanno sì che nella mente e soprattutto nel cuore del protagonista, si riaffaccino i ricordi di una giovinezza non molto lontana, ma che aveva perso - ***1/2
In Taedium vitae, si racconta di un uomo che ormai dopo aver superato i trent'anni, si rinchiude in se stesso e non vuole avere più a che fare col mondo intero, leggendo libri su libri. Eigentlich geht es nur um die Heimkehr eines jungen Mannes zu seiner Famile/dem Ort seiner Kindheit; seine Gedanken und Empfindungen bez. seiner Eltern, der Umgebung, Erinnerungen, Liebe und Verliebtsein... - Aber: es versucht auch gar nicht, mehr zu sein. Ganz schön - wohl aber eher was für eingefleischte HesseFans.

Hermann Hesse'nin ilk okuduğum kitabıydı ve bence hiç fena değildi. Daha fazla bi anı kitabı gibiydi ama bunda bi sorun yok. Çoğunlukla doğaya yoğunlaşılmıştı. Ama bi süre sonra kitap sıktı ya. Yani eeeeeee oldum hikayelerin ortasına doğru ama kitaba başlarken çok bir beklentim yoktu. Ama şunu söyleyebilirim bu kitap sayesinde gençliğin güzel bir şey olduğuna inanabilirsiniz.

Doğa ve etraf betimleri çok ayrıntılı ve güzelken öykülerdeki insanlar hiç betimlenmiyor. Bu da hermann hesse için bence neyin önemli neyin önemsiz olduğunu çok güzel anlatıyor. Hikayeler çok kolay değil, açıkçası okuduğum basım da çok eskiydi o sebeple de bana zor gelmiş olabilir. Klasik edebiyat ya da varoluş edebiyatına özellikle ilgli duymuyorsanız sınıkabilirsiniz. en beğendiğim öyküsü çocuk ruhu idi.

Non mi è piaciuto più che altro perché non ho capito dove voglia andare a parare

Questo racconto è doppiamente nostalgico: da una parte c'è il protagonista che torna a casa d'estate dopo anni trascorsi all'estero, notando in quest'occasione ciò che è cambiato e ciò che è rimasto uguale; dall'altra c'è la voce narrante, Hesse, che a sua volta ripensa al periodo che sta descrivendo in un momento tutt'altro che idilliaco.
Questo racconto mi è stato doppiamente utile: da una parte ho riletto qualcosa di Hesse dopo circa sette anni, per la gioia di una certa personcina; dall'altra rappresenta il mio primo libro letto in tedesco, in questo periodo sospeso che non posso fare a meno di associare all'ultima estate descritta da Hesse.

Well it had been a while since I've read any Hesse, but those short stories (Heumond, Schön ist die Jugend, Zyklon) were a real pleasure to read. I especially loved Heumond with Fräulein Thusnelde. Isn't she the perfect representation of romantism taking over classicism (Berta)?

In any case it's great to read such love stories. Even though this is quite old, it's still very much relatable Seriously! and I just love Hesse's narration. I find he has a good balance between explaining and leaving to the imagination.

All three stories were very touching.
Much recommend!

On öyküden oluşan bu kitap, Hesse’nin romandaki ustalığından uzak. Daha çok gençlik anıları, eski aşklar ve yerleri konu alan yazar, zamanın insani nasıl değiştirdiğini de güzel bir anlatımla isliyor. Hoşuma giden bir-iki alıntı:
“Büyüklerinki de içinde olmak üzere sürekli alışkanlık kokuyordu yasam; her şey kepazenin ve bayağının zafer kazanmasını sağlayacak gibi düzenlenmişti.”
“Değişen ve yüzünde maske taşıyan kişi, alici bir gözle baktı mi, doğallık içinde gelişip büyüyen nesnelerin özellikleri kasışında çaresiz irkilecektir.”

Composed of 10 short stories, the literary quality of this book is, in my opinion, sub-par by Hesse-standards. Hesse narrates reminiscences of youth, old loves, and how one changes through time.
A few excerpts:
“Habit permeates life, everything seems to have been ordained as to allow the victory of the banality.”
“The person who changes yet carries a mask will undoubtedly be taken aback when he notices how life around him develops through its natural course.”

Bir hafta sonu 1800'lü yılların Almanya'sında etkileyici doğa tasvirleri ve kişilik çözümlemeleriyle geçirmek ister misiniz? O zaman tam size göre bir kitap, daha önce Hesse okumuş olsam bile kalemini tekrar çok beğendim. Hesse ile birlikte büyümek, insanlarla vakit geçirmek benim için çok hoş bir deneyim oldu.

Das Buch beinhaltet drei Erzählungen, wobei nur „Schön ist die Jugend“ nennenswert ist. Eine nette kleine Geschichte, doch der moderne Mensch des 21. Jahrhunderts kann sich damit nicht identifizieren. Auch ich, obwohl ein Fan der Fin de siècle, konnte mich nicht ganz einfühlen oder warm werden mit der Geschichte.

gençliğimin kıymetini bilmeye çalıştığım günlerde okuduğum, bu yüzden daha çok anlam kazanan öyküler. fakat sondaki öyküler biraz daha yetişkin bir okuyucu istiyordu bence. belki geri dönüp okuduğumda benim için daha çok anlam kazanır.
