England in the Middle Ages is far from a jolly place for an unprotected young woman. Yet the savagery of her stepbrother and the devious schemes of her stepsister have given golden-haired Helena Talbot little choice. She must find shelter elsewhere.
Afforded protection by the magnanimous Duke of Gavenshire, Helena nonetheless lives under an assumed name, ever fearful her whereabouts will be revealed to her stepbrother. Only one dream transports her above her worries, the desire that one day she will be reunited with brave Tancred.
Years have passed since they were together and now an ocean and a king's decree keep them apart. But are those obstacles stronger than a woman's prayer for love?
I couldn’t take this one seriously. In love since age seven? The wild melodrama was not my thing either. It might have been entertaining, but it wasn’t realistic.
Peterson’s current titles are WAY better than this early duck.
This is the second book in the Castle series by Tracie Peterson. I enjoy books set during the Middle Ages, and there just aren't enough of them. The author does a good job with the historical setting. I liked getting a continuation of Tancred, Richard, and Arianne's story. Helena was a new character with a harsh past, physically abused by her stepbrother and sister. For the most part, I liked this story. I had a hard time with Helena's assertion that she fell in love with Tancred at the age of nine. Honestly, I could understand her loving him for the kindness he showed her as a child, but she really didn't know him when she met him ten years later, so her declaration felt kind of hollow. It would have been nice to see them get to know each other and fall in love in the process. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more in the series.
It's been several years since I last read this sweet novella. Part of Tracie Peterson's Castles Barbour compilation and the sequel to A Kingdom Divided, the love story of Helena and Tancred is a precious Christian Medieval romance. There aren't very many Christian Medieval romances out there and this one was written several years ago but it's a lovely little afternoon romance!
Although I've read this before, it was enjoyable & exciting. This is a sequel to "A Kingdom Divided", telling of the reconciliation of the brothers and how & why their parents were killed.
