Baytown Boys #4

Finding Peace

Rate this book
The Baytown Boys

Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.

Brogan MacFarlane, a former Marine, filled his days with hard work at the family bar and his nights running along the shore to rid himself of the war memories he would rather forget. But there was one thing in town that provided a distraction…the pretty cop with the haunted eyes.

Ginny Spencer loved the small, shore town and her job, as long as she could keep people at arm’s length. Former Army Military Police, she carried her own battle scars deep inside and that was just where she planned on keeping them. If only the surly bartender with the Irish blue eyes did not make her long for more.

When reports of a Peeping Tom in town escalate to a man accosting women, Ginny and the Baytown police work to find the culprit, but for her, it opens wounds she would rather forget. Brogan, seeing her pain, steps in, no longer willing to sit on the sidelines. And in doing so, allows her to soothe his nightmares as well.

When two scarred souls come together, their love allows them to find the peace they’ve been seeking.

As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.

My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.
I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.
When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

Finding Peace gives us a story that rings so true with the drama in the world today. Sexual harassment and the 'boys will be boys' mentality take center stage as Ginny deals with a peeping tom in her small town and remembers her own demoralizing encounter with sexual harassment and assault. The reactions of various people in the town are exactly what you hear in stories like this. They include various forms of "Come on, they are just boys" and even a few of the more well meaning members of the town don't quite see the 'big deal'. As a cop, Ginny has a duty to uphold the laws and as a woman who has been the victim of harassment before, she finds herself in the overwhelming task of educating a group of people. Some of those people welcome learning more about this pervasive issue; some are not open minded.

Brogan is a veteran as well and he carries his own set of baggage. Ginny and Brogan really like each other, but Brogan has some deep seeded self esteem issues and struggles with PTSD. He, however, has a very supportive family and the love of the people in his small hometown. Ginny's family excommunicated her and she is rebuilding her life in Baytown. Sometimes the dialogue was a little cheesy and this was the only downside to the book in my opinion. The mystery of the voyeur is really not the focus of the story so I don't really consider this a 'romantic suspense'. However, the mystery builds with the story and it was interesting. For a small town, there were no lack of chauvinistic pig suspects. Ick.

Characters with struggles that tug at your emotions, engaging supporting characters, and a mystery to keep you turning pages all combine in Finding Peace!

Brogan MacFarlane is part owner of Finn's Pub with his brother Aiden and sister Kaylelyn. One of the Baytown boys that left and went into the military and are now back in their hometown. He is interested in a newcomer to town but is hesitant to make a move due to not feeling good enough for her.

Ginny Spencer is a Baytown Police officer. She moved to town after her own time in the military. She is getting comfortable with her co-workers but she is very standoffish in really being apart of the community and friends due her own bad history.

They are both a member of the American Legion Auxiliary that was created for many of the ex military in the small town. While at the meeting, Ginny has a kind of moment of a bad flashback that makes her blank out and forget where she is. She leaves due to the small panic attack she feels and embarrassment. Brogan followers her out to check on her. He finally takes the step to ask her out and so they slowly begin to feel there way into a relationship.

Ginny unfortunately is also dealing with a case of a peeking tom that is starting to escalate. And even has has Brogan knows she is a cop and take care of herself he struggles with worrying about her getting hurt and not stepping in. But they both have to deal with their past and well as Ginny and her department finding this peeking tom before his already bold moves take a worse turn.

I have to say I really enjoyed this. I liked that Ginny was strong but sweet and that Brogan was protective but also learning he has to step back and let her do her job. I thought the story was interesting and liked that it was low angst. So a solid read.

It does deal with sexual assault but no rape for those who that triggers. But safe other wise.

In this book we are given the story of one of the original Baytown Boys – grouchy veteran Brogan and a new addition to the town, veteran and cop Ginny Spencer.

I liked the strength Ginny has, she’s strong and simultaneously sweet, and then there is Brogan – he is super protective but he learns to step back and let her do her duty/job, ready in the wings to ensure she doesn’t exhaust herself. Brogan and Ginny both carry baggage/scars from their time in service, with Brogan’s meaning he feels unworthy of Ginny and continues to struggle with PTSD. What I really liked was how supportive Brogan’s friends and family are, unlike Ginny’s,

I do think that the suspense competent of the book is secondary, but in that instance that wasn’t an impediment to my enjoyment of the read. There were some small instances where the dialogue didn’t always flow seamlessly and things were a tad cheesy, but not horrifically. Another book in the series that I really liked and see myself re-reading.

*4.5* I loved the set up of the story. Grouchy, protective big guy who is only sweet to the heroine who is a cop! A lot of red herrings for the suspense, but great progression of investigation and kept me glued reading.

Finding Peace by Maryann Jordan

I think we all have been waiting for this relationship to form. Brogan has been in the other Baytown boys book but we finally get to read what makes him the grouchy man we love. Brogan MacFarlane is a former marine and has nightmares that keep him up at night. He's not the one to ask for help so with Ginny Spencer tells everyone about counseling helping many around the world he thinks about it. Both Brogan and Ginny have been dancing around the idea of a relationship but with both having not dealt with the past they stay away. Brogan being part bar owner works hard never having fun but slowly he starts to have a smile on his face. Ginny thinks Brogan won't like her because she isn't a delicate flower like the other girls but that's something he loves about her that she is strong and independent. While these two try to form a relationship but with Ginny being in law enforcement she has to keep the community safe from the peeping tom being spotted around town.
Great story! Brogan has a mysterious side to him in the other books but we finally see what goes on in his beautiful mind. One by one they are falling in love and its great to see them take on the biggest mission LOVE.

After leaving the marines Brogan has returned home however the aftereffects continue to his impact his life. He has had feelings for Ginny for a while but has not pursued her as he believes she deserves more than he can give her however realizing that she has her own battles he decides to take a chance.

Ginny’s experience in the military did not end well and she did not fare any better when she returned to her family. She moved to Baytown needing a fresh start and even though she became part of the police force she does not allow people close.

I enjoyed seeing both Brogan and Ginny open up to each other about their pasts and receive the support that they both deserve. I enjoyed the narrator as he brought out the suspense part of the story and showed the growth of both these characters and their love

I received an authors copy for an honest review.
Another great read from this series I loved these two characters I think everyone has been waiting for Ginny and Brogan.
If you have read the other books you will know Brogan and Ginny have been interested in each other for a while and yet due to there pasts it's been holding them both back from having any type of relationship.
Brogan believes he is not good enough for Ginny because of things that happened to him in his past while serving overseas.
Ginny also has a lot of trust issues from her her past in the military which has made it hard for her to have any type of friendships or romantic relationships.
As the two start opening up to each other and sharing there pasts they soon begin to heal each other and bring each other peace.
Of course it wouldn't be a Maryann Jordan book with out some drama. Ginny is a police officer and is investigating a series of peeping tom incidents that then start to escalate,Ginny must find who is responsible before she finds herself as the attackers next target.
I can't see it being an easy book to write there are some very strong subject matter but Maryann Jordan wrote with so much compassion and empathy that it made it an amazing story.
I also applaud Maryann for dealing with the mobile phone incident which in these times of greater technology and social media with our youth it's something to be aware of if any of us have children.
I love the friendships that are formed for Ginny with the Baytown girls and all the characters having each other's backs in a time of need. There where also so many heartwarming family and friendship moments that just helped Ginny heal even more.
The only thing that I skipped over unfortunately is the repetitive description of Baytown and the characters sometimes it's good if you haven't read it in a while or if it's a standalone but it being a series I think it didn't need as much background discription as it is the forth book besides that it was a wonderful read.
There so much mystery and speculation about these two it was joy to finally read their story.
Thank you Maryann Jordan for bring us along on this creative journey.

Sweet smalltown romance
This is the 4th book in the Baytown series and the more we get to know the characters, the more I enjoy reading these books. What I like most is the small town spirit of the stories: a closely knit community, people who have known each other for a long time, care about each other and can always rely on one another.
Ginny is a newcomer in Baytown but thanks to her blossoming relationship with Brogan, she gets more and more integrated in this community of old friends. Which helps her to open up and to finally cope with the demons of her past. The same goes for Brogan who came home from war with serious emotional baggage. It's very sweet to see how these two veterans help each other to heal while falling in love.
Maryann states herself that she likes writing stories with low angst and this is definitely true for the crime story in this book. The investigation of a peeping tom creates some nice suspense, without giving nightmares, and is also connected to Ginny's personal issues, making the book coherent.
All in all a really good read if you enjoy small town settings and stories that feel more like a cosy blanket than a rollercoaster.
I was granted an Author Copy in exchange for an honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I’ve loved this series so far but I think this is my favourite, watching the characters develop and go from being closed off to protect themselves and their hearts to embracing love was really lovely.

Brogan is a former Marine and Ginny is former Military Police, they both came away with battle scars that they try to keep hidden and they both have a thing for each other but believe they have too much baggage so do nothing about their feelings at first.

Ginny is now working for the Baytown police and the latest case is of a peeping tom, this opens old wounds for her and brings on the protective side of Brogan, but Ginny doesn’t want protecting, she feels she can look after herself. Brogan has to find a way to look after Ginny without her feeling suffocated.

I loved reading how they open up to each other, sharing their pasts and experiences that they’ve never felt comfortable sharing with anyone else before and realising that love is scary but having someone to love you can help in your darkest moments, having someone to love can help you find peace.

This book is part of a series but it is a stand alone with no cliffhangers, however, the other books in the series are fabulous and you do get snippets of these characters in them too so I’d advise reading them too.

Finding Peace is my new favorite story in the Baytown Boys series. It has a heroine who is a strong woman. Ginny became a police officer after returning from her tour of duty in the army. She is someone who can take care of herself and has been self sufficient for years. But she has also been protecting herself by hiding secrets about her past.

Brogan is a former marine with a past that he is trying to forget. He is working at his family’s bar and admires Ginny from afar until a town mystery brings them together.

“He picked her up and twirled her around and around, their laughter filling the air. Two souls…once filled with pain…finding peace…together.”

I loved how these two damaged souls found strength in themselves to heal each other. Ginny and Brogan are like two broken pieces that fit together to form a more perfect whole!!

Another excellent Baytown Boys novel!
Peace at any price? No! Sometimes a person has to stand their ground, even though the cost is unexpectedly high. Both Brogan and Ginny spent time in the military in Afghanistan. Each returned with hidden wounds that colored their outlook on life. Watching them work through those issues, and getting to know each other as ‘more’ than friends is fascinating. Ms. Jordan does an excellent job of bringing us up-to-date with townspeople and what they are doing. The police department is busy with reports of a ‘peeping tom’ in town. We see an interesting study on voyeurism as they work to stop this from escalating.
I love the setting of these stories and the characters who are ‘real’ people with all their quirks and foibles. Brogan and Ginny’s story is deeply moving. They both show great strength of character in pursuing their goals. Very admirable. Highly recommended reading! I voluntarily reviewed an author’s copy of this book.

Loving the Baytown series each one gets better and better, which is hard to accomplish.
Brogan runs the bar with his brother and sister but his time in the service weighs on him.
Ginny the police officer, not having grown up here and the past time in the army has trusting people out side the job hard.
Watching them both coming to terms with they're past which then allows them to move on to better things including each other.
Throw in the suspense of a peeping tom and we have another winner!

I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this book. Finding Peace is another beautiful love story in the Baytown Boys series. This time it's sexy and stoic Brogan and strong, resilient Ginnys turn for a happily ever after. Maryann Jordan does a fantastic job weaving PTSD from war and sexual assault and harassment into the storyline. Such sensitive topics are handled with great writing. Strong heroes and a suspenseful plot round out this great romance

Wow! That was the first thought that popped in my head after reading Finding Peace and it has become my favorite Baytwon Boys book to date. I absolutely loved reading about Brogan and Ginny. When we were first introduced to the characters, you knew they were both holding on to their pasts and that they would both have one heck of a story to tell. In the first three books, you see the interest between the two but nothing ever happened because of their pasts. Brogan does not feel like he is good enough for Ginny due to what he experienced while overseas. Let me tell you, when his past was revealed you just want to reach into the story and give him a hug. With Ginny, her past in the military has defined all aspects of her relationships, from friendships to potential lovers. When she finally reveals her past to Brogan, you can see the burden being lifted from her shoulders. I absolutely loved the girls trying to bring her into their fold. Finding Peace focuses primarily on Brogan and Ginny's relationship, but we also get to see her in action trying to find a peeping tom which helps to give us some background on Lance. I really hope he is next, because that little bit of background has left me intrigued. Thank you Maryann for another amazing read!! I received an authors copy and I have left an honest review.

Finding Peace
Maryann Jordan
Maryann hit the nail on the head with this one. Two people who face PTSD and have to learn to let people into their lives again and let go of a lot.
Loved how Brogan and Ginny evolve over the story. Though I did not see the villain in this because the peeping Tom was not who I thought it was! She pulls you in and you can’t quit until the end.

This is the story of quiet Brogan and the equally private Ginny, both having served and seen things overseas that still influence their life's now. Brogan a bar owner, Ginny a Deputy. Together they will be a strong couple that even danger cannot tear apart.Love this book, love this series. Love that this Author never lets me down. A must read author for me.

Another great add to the series. Been wanting Ginny and Brogan together since we met them in the series, I've also wanted to see Ginny become a member of the tight girls group. She's really been more on the outsider looking in when it's come to the group of woman in previous books, so having them embrace her makes it feel like the last puzzle piece is in place. As important as it was for her to be with Brogan, to me, it was as equally important to become a full member of the tight girls group. From supporting friendships, gossiping over coffee or girls night. I felt Ginny really needed this kind of relationship with women more so than the previous woman we've met. I found Ginny is more relate able for me, with being a different kind of woman from the others who was more of the Tom-Boy type. Every scene had me guessing who the bad guy, full of excitement and loving moments. AMAZING! You will fall in love all over again with Maryann Jordan. Can't wait for the next. What a wonderful story of two people finding their peace together. Brogan and Ginny are one of my favorite couples Maryann has written. These two were quiet and always had a bit of a mystery to them. I absolutely loved this book. Watching them both open their hearts to each other and to their friends and family was very heartwarming. These two were truly made for each other. I love everything that Maryann Jordan writes but this one has such a deeper story that it’s flown to my favorite of hers. Highly recommended.

Oh wow...I’ve just finished this book and I’ve got tears in my eyes. This story is so poignant and emotional. It took hold of my heart and hasn’t let up all the way through. We’ve met Brogan and Ginny in previous books and were already intrigued by them. Meeting them as they got their own story was even better.
Pain was evident in both of them from what we already knew but to understand the pain was heartbreaking at times. The raw emotion in this book was compelling. I was shocked too. Parts of this story are difficult to comprehend in a civilised society but nonetheless still happen all over the world. Ms Jordan handled this subject with compassion and empathy. Truly an amazing story. Loved every minute of it. Now I can’t wait for Aidan, Lance and the others Books.

I have been waiting for Brogan's story and it did not disappoint. I loved Brogan and Ginny's characters and was so happy to see them get their HEA. They both may have been a bit broken from their past but together they can save each other and put the pieces back together even stronger. Maryann Jordan is one of my go to authors and this book is a great example of why she is. I love this series and it can be read as stand alone a but you will fall in love with it and want to read the rest.

Brogan and Ginny.
I have loved this series and this couple's story is a brilliant addition.
Brogan works with his family as they own the local bar and Ginny is a police officer. We gets lots of interaction with the previous couples from the series and a few from possible future ones as Ginny works for Grant and the bar is the social hub for the gang to hang out plus Brogan's family pop in and out.
Both Brogan and Ginny have had trauma in their past and I loved the way they are not very confident in their ability to read interest from each other. Brogan is so strong for Ginny but also has his own vulnerability.
The problem Ginny has and deals with are also really up to date, with youths and mobiles so that's a bonus.

There is no cheating and a HEA.

Peace and love

Brogan stole my heart. This book is a bit different, but in the right way. Ginny is a cop. Brogan the bad boy bartender. Both of them secretly fighting scars from the past and a steamy attraction to one another. They come together to heal each other and find the peace they both deserve. Brogan wants nothing more than to protect his lady. Ginny wants to stand on her two feet. Loved this book and you will too.

One of the best books yet by Maryann Jordan. Brogan and Ginny both have demons haunting them and will do everything they can to overcome them to get the happiness they deserve together. I love the chemistry between these two, and how even though Ginny is a sheriff’s deputy, Brogan still feels the need to protect his woman. I could relate to the storyline because I know someone who was in a similar situation as one of the suspects. It makes the book that much more real. Can’t wait to read what comes next in this series

My favorite book from the Baytown Boys!!
Beautiful!! 2 broken people coming together. Brogan was attracted to Ginny for a long time before they finally came together. Both had problems and it was beautiful how they helped each other and that they got the help that they needed.
Brogan was Alpha, but he understood that Ginny was a Police officer even though he wanted to protect her.
Loved the background story of the peeping tom. The suspense and romance was just what I love in my books. can't wait for the next book in the Baytown Boys series!!
