Avowed: A Companion Story to the Fairytale Trilogy

Rate this book
Violet has always felt unseen. As a younger daughter of a powerful fae family and one of the famed terre-verde sisters, she’s never stood on her own. Shy and unassuming, Violet envies her older sister Liliana's passion and purpose. It isn't until she meets Beorn, next in line to be king of the fera, that Violet feels truly seen.

Wild and rebellious, Beorn is more interested in antagonizing his father than in his responsibilities to the fera. Consorting with humans is bad enough, but when Beorn falls head over heels for the daughter of another fae house, he knows he's risking far more than just his father's anger.

When Liliana chooses to renounce her magic in order to marry a human, the entire fae realm is thrown into turmoil. As lines are drawn between houses, can Violet and Beorn’s forbidden love withstand those who would seek to destroy it?

Violet and Berorn make Romeo and Juliet look like amateurs. I know big statement but that is how I felt when I finished the last page of this gut wrenching novella. I wanted to cry, scream and rage that the story was over and I can only beg (BEG) that Grey continues on a little bit with their story in her last novel for Fairytale Trilogy. Their passion and pain comes across so vividly and it was not what I was expecting as the first 2 books in the series are all about snarky humor from a cast of fun teens. This was a more mature darker version of the series that literally took my breath and at times my sanity away. It balanced out the first 2 more light hearted books- 5 stars for a compelling novella that is impossible to put down. Violet went from being just a non descript secondary character to someone who I will be shamelessly rooting for in Aspire. Until then I'm holding my breath to see what happens to her and her niece in book 3!!!

I was fortune enough to get an ARC. I am not being paid or compensated for my review in any way.

After a long wait, Jessica Grey has finally graced us with more of her Fairytale Trilogy. Not with the much-anticipated Aspire, but Avowed which is a story I didn't know I needed. Violet's backstory is both beautiful and heartbreaking. And despite its small size, the story is pretty rich (not a word or scene wasted) and gives a better understanding of the fae and the history of the sisters. I find myself now wondering about all 5 of them. About the fae kingdoms. About...About...About...

There is so much more that could be explored and unpacked.....hopefully Jessica agrees and we will see more stories after Aspire? One can hope.

The writing is strong, and in fact, I believe you can see how much Grey's writing has improved from the first book to this one.

My only complaint here is that it's not a full novel because it absolutely could have been.

Oh my stars... Wow! You have done it again Grey; your books are absolutely mystical and only get better with every page! ^_~ I am ecstatic to have been able to read this book!!! Violet was a character that stood out to me in the first book and I LOVED having a sneak peak into her life with Beorn and what lead up to the present events. Even though I knew I would be cooped up with the feels, Grey’s magical story weaving enthralled me once again and I couldn’t put it down! It shattered my heart, but I’m totally ready for more!!! No, I NEED MORE!!! I cannot wait to read the final(?) instillation. It’s going to be a knockout! Aaaah!! It’s just so good!!!! <3 Keep being awesome, Grey!!!!! <3

Jessica Grey's lovely Fairytale world has thrilled me for years. So I was quite excited to read this addition to her universe of magic and romance. Avowed is a beautiful story of love in hard times that touched every part of my heart. It does help to have read the previous two books Awake: A Fairytale (Fairytale Trilogy Book 1) and Atone: A Fairytale (Fairytale Trilogy Book 2), but you won't be completely lost if you haven't. Now we'll just have to wait patiently until Aspire comes out to see how the main action of this lovely companion story plays out!

i love this companion story so so so so much. i've read it at least four times and each time i fall deeper in love with violet and beorn. here's my official review:

Beautifully written and skillfully told, Avowed ripped my heart in to shreds. Violet's and Beorn’s passionate star-crossed love affair will haunt its readers long after the last page is read.

One can only hope they’ll be reunited in Aspire ... *makes sacrifices to the book gods*

now i'm off to reread my favorite parts and possibly cry just a tiny bit. the end.

first review written on january 2: hi. i just finished this story. and now i will cry for all eternity. all. eternity.

I'm looking for my heart ... I think it's in tiny pieces somewhere, whimpering because I've just read something so beautiful that ended in such a shattering way -- it's the rawest and hardest kind of Love, ya know? The kind that makes you do the seemingly impossible, because there's no other way? Yeah. My heart ... I know there are pieces that will be coming together again when Aspire comes. I think. I hope. In the meantime, I may have to reread Atone.

I have been a fan of the Fairytale Trilogy for years, and when I saw that there was a companion novel, I bought it immediately. Violet and Beorn’s short lived and tumultuous romance tugged at all the right heartstrings, and left me gasping for more. We witness Lilia, Lilliana and Edmund's beginning, as well as the initial downfall of Briar Rose that later leads to the adventure in Awake. This is everything you want out of a prequel! My heart could barely take it, and the writing often brought me to tears. I will not rest until I find out what happens, hopefully in the final book of the trilogy, Aspire!
