As someone who enjoys stories from WW2, this was a fun and enjoyable collection. I liked the Christmas theme and the stories overall held my attention. Great read.
Four novellas set at Christmas time during World War 2. Quick and enjoyable reads that feel complete even though they are novellas each filled with hope, love, and the Christmas spirit.
This is a collection of 4 novellas set during the years of World War 2, during the holiday season.
The first story, Coming Home, is about a returning vet dealing with survivor guilt. While I enjoyed the story, I felt the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly and neatly to be believable, but I am also more willing to suspend belief when it comes to a Christmas story.
Remember Me is about a marine stranded on an island in the Pacific who thinks that his girl back home may have found someone else, and it's a man who has somehow managed to avoid the draft.
Shadows of His Wings was my favorite story in this book, about a young woman who has had to marry quickly when she learns she is pregnant, and her husband has been sent overseas, and her parents have disowned her, leaving her alone to give birth to their child.
I really loved the last story too, Parachutes and Lace, about two people who put off getting married, until they finally decide with the war on, they may not get a chance if they wait.
While these stories were a tad predictable, they are all enjoyable "feel good" stories, perfect for this time of year.
This is a collection of Christmas stories from World War Two. In "Coming Home," David is depressed and suicidal but remembers a promise that he made. His buddy, Kenny was lost at Pearl Harbor and made David promise that he would visit his family someday. David went to visit them and found love and forgiveness and a forever home.
In "Remember Me" Erik was lost on a jungle island in the South Pacific. He wonders if God, his fiancee, and his family have forgotten him. Back home, Mary Ann has her struggles but never forgot her fiance. On Christmas Day Erik is reminded of hers and God's love.
In "Shadow of His Wings," Melody is about to give birth and is estranged from her family. She longs to receive forgiveness from her family for getting pregnant before her wedding day. Over in Europe her husband Collin is also feeling bitter towards God and his parents-in-law until a miraculous rescue proves that God does care about him.
In "Parachutes and Lace" Clara and Michael are over in England. He is an army doctor while she works for the Red Cross. He was granted permission for them to get married but Clara wants a real wedding dress more than anything. It seems like an impossible dream but miracles happen even in wartime.
In bygone years, the slogan young people shouted was "Make Love, Not War"! The younger generation during WWII wouldn't dream of shouting such sentiments, but they sure didn't like the separations caused by that conflict. This reviewer lived her earliest years during that era and can testify that Tracie Peterson captured the angst felt back then by people faced with that war's horror. Memories captured in photos of tearful mothers, grandmothers and families parted eternally by war still lurk in the scrapbooks and diaries of our relatives and friends. This book, Tidings of Peace, brought it all back. For those who don't wish to revisit those memories, this book isn't one for you; but if you don't mind shedding an occasional tear, or even sobbing your heart out, "Tidings of Peace" is the book for you. These four stories by Tracie Peterson gave this reviewer with a very satisfactory trip back in time.
There were several stories within this book. All the main characters had connections with Longview, WA. These are love stories during WWII. The realities of war are harsh. There were parts where I choked up at some of the situations, I also cheered, held on to hope for some and loved every page! I wanted to follow these people through the rest of their lives, I was that invested in them. That's the sign of great writing.
Truly love is lived in these stories. War, separation and desperation can not stop love, and God has a plan he offers as shown in these stories. You will truly enjoy as you read, and you will draw closer to those you love and to the Lord who Loves you most!
Bombing of pearl harbor the christians were led to the Lord by missionaries. Many soldiers and their families. Love and kindness. No sexual content , no cussing thank You . I recommend. The book and the author.
What a wonderful read. I loved the stories so much. As always the Author keeps you so interested in turning the next page and meeting all the characters. Well done.
This was a great book! It includes 4 novellas about different young couples involved in World War 2 on the home front and in the military. The stories were intense and Peterson gives lots of insight into the war. From giving birth to fighter planes in a battle to a lost pilot in the Jungle, this book has lots of action. I give this book 5 stars. I read it on Kindle Unlimited.
Four sweet, clean, romantic stories occurring during WWII. Favorite lines: 1. "Hatred only causes the pain to be more intense. Love eases pain" (80). 2. "Consequences [are] strict masters" (168). 3. "Worry just kills hope, and hope is all we have when things seem darkest" (174). 4. "It would be wonderful if such things as peace and love could be handed out like doughnuts" (286).
This was a wonderful book each story showed the love the couple had for each other and the love they had for the Lord and the Faith to see the goodness God has for each of us
This foursome of World War Two Christmas romances are heartwarming and faith promoting. Each deals with the challenges of people trusting God as the world around them falls apart. Well researched and a pleasure to read.
