Resident bad boy Jackson Matoa is not very good at expressing his feelings. Especially when those feelings include an inexplicable desire toward his brother’s widow. And if the blow from his young brother’s death wasn’t enough to break him, the guilt of his unwavering lust for his sister-in-law just might...
Despite her best efforts, Truth Richards can’t seem to make sense of her feelings for her insufferable brother-in-law. She’s certainly not willing to admit just how deep those feelings run. With one phone call, Truth finds herself returning to Cedar Bend and forcing her way back into Jackson’s life.
Yet with the pain of their lost still fresh, can these two broken hearts borrow each other’s strength to find happiness with each other? Or will their guilt and grief push them further apart?

Something Borrowed is the third and worst book in the Brides of Cedar Bend series. I am not saying that just to be mean. I liked half the book, but later I came to hate it. I liked the first five chapters where we see how Jackson and Truth met. It gave me a better understanding of the characters and they had good chemistry then. It was just the right amount of their past I wanted to see. Then the present came and it brought all the bad stuff. Jackson has become unlikeable and he is a bitter man who has cut off people from his life and some people are making fun of him. His business is going down and he got hit by a car so he is on bed rest. Truth is a nurse and in between jobs, so she decides to return to Cedar Bend after a weird phone call from Jackson. Until that point everything was good. The characters needed to heal from the death of Truth's husband. I wasn't expecting the transition from friends to lovers to be easy on the characters, but I also wasn't expecting Truth to date someone else. She spends almost all the book been friends (if you can call them that) with Jackson and she dates another man. I would have liked to see those pages spend on Jackson and Truth as a couple because we never got to see them as one. Their romantic story is 3 chapters from the 16 and they spend some time being stubborn and not together. How am I supposed to believe they are in love and happy? Their time as a couple is limited and rushed. It didn't feel like it was the natural flow of the story. Also, Jackson's business is barely mentioned. We learn that his truck is taken because he has financial trouble, but this is it. We never got to learn how that story went on. I feel like some good plot lines were wasted and some bad ones got the spotlight. In case my rating doesn't make this clear, I wouldn't recommend the book.
Truth and Jackson meet when she mistakes him for a derelict, only to eventually discover he's her new brother-in-law after they've shared a forbidden kiss.
When tragedy strikes, they both try to move on with their lives. Jackson doesn't have an easy time of his new normal and drowns himself in alcohol. Truth tries to escape her memories of the past by opting to be a traveling (contract) nurse. When she receives a drunken call for help from Jackson she moves back to Cedar Bend to help him get back on his feet.
Neither acknowledges the elephant in the room as they settle into a daily routine that is comforting and familiar. As they spend more time together, they become more than brother and sister-in-law, they become friends, which is an important foundation for any relationship.
Truth and Jackson harbor unacknowledged secret feelings for one another. Truth is left to wonder if she should try to move on, so she agrees to go out with Officer Mike. Understanding that timing is everything, a decision is made to step back and reflect on what she truly wants for her life.
Though I'm not a fan of switching partners, I really enjoyed the slow burn between this couple. They really got to know one another within the confines of the home they shared so it was not necessary for them to go through the actual ritual of dating.
There was a hint of something larger at play with her marriage to Danny, but it was never explored. Still, I enjoy the writing style of this author and this series really invokes a small time feel with residents that have big hearts. I look forward to reading the final book in the series soon.

Every life is full of surprises. Some good, others not so much. It's how we handle the ups and downs that gives us the strength to become who we are meant to be. Truth and Jackson are a complicated pair. From first meeting they got under each other's skin. He was the tough guy with the seductive eyes and the frustrating demeanor. She was a beauty finding her wings in a world, that was not always kind. Attraction was instant, but forbidden. Truth was a newlywed and Jackson's sister - in - law. When fate hands her a raw deal and tragedy comes knocking at her door, Truth must find the courage to make her own way in the world. Through the grief and uncertainty, she finds herself facing her past, following her heart and falling in love again. One brother captured her heart, will the other brother help her piece it back to together. Something Borrowed begins with a love triangle that is a heartbreak waiting to happen and ends up being a tale of hope for anyone who has loved, loss and found the courage to try again.
Jackson Matoa. He appeared the first time, mentioned in Book 1, in one of the cells of the police station. Drunk. In Book 2, he appeared, drunk again, when he got hit by Savvy's car.
Here we have his story. From when he comes across a beautiful woman inside his house and, without knowing who she was, kisses her deeply and is reciprocated. To the desperation of both, she is the wife of his younger brother, Danny, the musician.
Truth Richards fell in love at first sight with Danny and soon got married. The beginning of her relationship with Jackson, because of the history of the kiss, was not smooth - even because she responded to his kiss! - but as Danny is involved in a new tour in Europe, soon she and Jackson are alone in the house and decide to be friends. Until they got a call that Danny's charter plane, which stubbornly decided to fly home by the time a hurricane was arriving in the city, crashed and all nine people on board died.
There was no body to be buried, only a memorial, in which Jackson did not attend, but preferred to drink to quench his pain. In addition to the pain of the loss of the brother he practically raised, Jackson lived the daily pain of knowing that he had fallen in love with Truth. And he did not deserve her.
They were spared the next few days, until, no longer holding up the pressure - because she thought Jackson blamed her for Danny's death since she had not tried to convince him not to travel under those conditions - she'd rather leave.
A year goes by, and Jackson finds himself alone two months after the accident. Truth appears at his door and sees the conditions he was living, and that she should help him in some way.
She was a nurse. She had spent the last year working as a travel nurse agency, and before she accepted a new temporary contract, she decided to check on her brother-in-law. At first Jackson did not like her visit. He had not forgotten her yet, but Truth insisted on staying.
Mike, Deputy, Guy's Cousin (Book 1), is interested in Truth and begins his campaign for woo her. This bothers Jackson more than he'd like to admit, and Gloria, Mike's aunt, realizes that With the fierce competition, Jackson sees it's time to straighten out his life, pursue his plan to open his carpentry business - it was something Danny always encouraged him to do - and take the woman he loved for a long time.
What do you do when the most magnetic man you have ever met is your bad boy brother-in-law whom you've just been introduced to? And if he kisses you before he even knows your name, what do you tell his brother? With a less than ideal first impression, Truth finds herself prevaricating and feeling uncomfortable in the presence of Jackson. He on the other hand, realises that he has stepped badly out of line and does his best to ignore and put as much distance between Truth and himself. When Danny loses his life, both Truth and Jackson are devastated, but handle their grief differently, forcing Truth to put even more distance between them, taking on nursing assignment all over the US. When Truth receives a desperate phone call from Jackson, she returns to his hometown to take care of him, only to realise that the attraction between them is as electric as ever. Both of them are dealing with their guilt and both make mistakes. I personally found this romance to be somewhat earth, but it wasn't offensive in any way. Jackson is basically a good guy with a tender heart, as evidenced by his caring for Daisy, but he is so used to keeping people at a distance that he is his own worst enemy. Although it would appear that this book is part of a series, it is nevertheless a stand alone and both Truth and Jackson eventually come to their senses. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Love and loss color this romance between two people who desperately need a second chance at love. I really enjoyed how the author walked us through the painful and delicate reunion between Truth and Jackson with empathy and compassion--but also with hope and excitement for the future they could build with each other if only they'd take a chance. Initially when Truth and Jackson met, they had a miscommunication that had Jackson kissing her before he realized she was his brother's wife. After they cleared up the misunderstanding, each was left with lingering feelings of attraction that they have to hide. Suddenly, Danny was gone. Truth and Jackson are devastated and unable to comfort each other because of their guilt. Truth can't handle it anymore so she runs, leaving Jackson almost paralyzed with despair. Luckily there was an upside for them both. When Truth gets a call that Jackson's hurt, she rushes back to Cedar Bend to help him. Will be let her? Will they acknowledge their feelings? This was such a surprising story to me. It has so many feelings in it: their shared love and devastation over Danny's death. Their secret and not so well hidden feelings for each other. Would either of them ever get beyond their shame and regret and actually talk truth to each other? Sweet romance with pathos and second chances. Thanks!

Something Borrowed is part of the Brides of Cedar Bend series, but I enjoyed it as a stand-alone slightly spicy romance. Author Lena Hart has written an interesting story with likable characters, but a three things spoiled it for me. First of all, Ms. Hart needs a better editor - numerous awkward sentences, mixed metaphors, and grammatical errors really distracted me from the story. And second, the hero, Jackson, needed more backstory. He's clearly a wounded man acting out feelings he can't articulate, but the insta-lust and all the angst makes little sense without explanatory background. And finally, the pacing was a bit jerky. Odd lapses of time without explanation or transition occur throughout the book. I had to re-read previous paragraphs to make sure I hadn't skipped over something. On the plus side, Hart's dialogue is very well written and flows naturally with the characters, the situation, and the mood of the story. Her heroine, Truth, is particularly well portrayed as the guilty, grieving, grown-up woman who carries the story with dignity, strength, and wisdom. I thank the folks at eBook Discovery for this ARC, but this is a voluntary and independent review.
Something Borrowed was a good 4 star read. This is part of the Cedar Bend Brides series.
This is Truth and Jackson’s story. Truth and Jackson meet when he mistakes her as a groupie and gives her a heck of a kiss. Then he finds out that Truth is married to his brother Danny, oops. Although their moment was very steamy.
When tragedy strikes Truth and Jackson’s world gets turned upside down. Jackson has a bad way of dealing with it and has become mean and bitter. When Truth gets a call she returns back to Cedar Bend where she see’s Jackson. It has been over a year that these two had any contact.
Can these two help each other move forward? Can they have a HEA?
I really enjoyed this story and I did have some teary eyed moments here and there. You could feel the chemistry between Truth and Jackson. This is a great story of hope, loss, love and moving forward after tragedy.Lena Hart does a great job of pulling you in with her writing.

Something Borrowed is the third book in the Brides of Cedar Bend; It was a pretty moving book. I wanted to be so mad at the hero Jackson. He did something and although fessing up to his mistake may have made things worse. Lusting after his brothers wife was so not good. Truth Richards was beautiful and his brother was one lucky guy.
When tragedy struck and left Truth alone she wasn’t sure what she would do. A call from her brother in law was not what she expected. Time passed between them. She couldn’t ignore her feelings, but she had to. She loved Danny with all her heart, but he was gone.
See what happens when Truth goes back to Cedar Bend. One place she never thought she’d go back too.
This book made me laugh, cry, and so much more. Something Borrowed at the end made me smile a lot.
This is one of those books I could see as a made for tv movie or show. Girl married boy but life happens to throw a monkey wrench at them and well in all honest at his brother as well. Because of the monkey wrench being thrown at them it causes all sorts of issues for Trust and Jackson.... (the sister in law and brother in the story.) Boy am I being vague enough for you. Let me just say I do not like to give storylines away and this book is one of those books that if I say to much I might give the storyline away. This is one book that I started reading and the only time I put it down was to sleep. It is good... for me i really got into it and was visualizing different actors and actresses for the different characters. It is one of those books that made me go yep just share.
The first time Truth met her new husband's big brother Jackson he gave her a mind-blowing kiss. Of course, neither of them knew who she was at the time. They both told Danny, and that would have been the end of it - except things happen in life and theirs definitely didn't go the way any of them expected. The third story in a series of small town American wedding stories, this one offers cameos from some of the previous stories heroes and heroines as well as a strong, independent heroine, a messed up and vulnerable hero and a dog named Daisy. A well told story that will make you laugh and cry, Something Borrowed is a well told and compassionate look at today's mixed up families. Well worth the read.
Truth Richards just received the kiss of her life from her husband Danny's brother Jackson Matoa. Truth didn't know one kiss could inspire such strong feelings. Jackson and Truth receive horrible news that Danny's been killed in a charter plane crash. The following year both Jackson and Truth move through their grief in different directions. Jackson to drinking and Truth to staying faraway from her memories. Will Jackson continue on his path? Can Truth move forward? Your answers await you in Something Borrowed.
I'm really enjoying this series. The characters and story were truly sweet and loyal, rich, bold, complicated, compelling, and mysterious too. Looking forward to more from this series and author.
Something Borrowed is the third book in the Cedar Bend story. It begins by telling us the story of Truth and her husband but when tragedy strikes it becomes focused on Truth and her Brother In Law Jackson. Jackson had it rough by his own choice and only he can change his life around. Truth decides on her own to go and make sure he is ok. I felt this book wasn't easy to read. There were a lot a spots where it lulled over. I enjoyed the three books in this series bit this one not so much. I am looking forward to the next one.
** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the storyline. Whilst reading it i kept thinking ive read this book before but couldnt remember when. It was an interesting concept. The book is about Truth whose husband dies in a plane crash while returning from a tour. Truth and her brother in law (husband’s older brother) have an unforgettable first meeting which lies between them and forms the foundation to the story. This book was slow moving and there was a grammatical error in the scene where he looks after Truth when she has the flu. I received this book for free from ebook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
This was a good quick read, Truth is a great character that just wants to help her brother in law out. Jackson is trying to stay away from Truth because he wants to honor his brother. I loved this story because you can’t but root for these two and of course little monster or daisy. To see Truth stand up for Jackson when he is hurt, when others laugh at him or when he is in trouble and daisy is taken away is amazing. This was a great story and Lena hart did a great job on this story and this series is great.
3.5 Stars This is book 3 in the Brides of Cedar Bend series and it features sexy Jackson Matoa and Truth Richards. It was fate. These two were meant to be together. She’s ready to move on...with him but he’s still so riddled with guilt for wanting his deceased brothers wife that he can’t move on.
At first, the story line moved a little too slow, then it felt much too rushed at the end. I understand how the part of the story line with the “borrowed “ white wedding dress is supposed to fit in but it was so sudden and out of sync with everything else, that it didn’t really mesh with the rest.
I enjoyed this addition to the Cedar Bend Brides. At times, I didn't think that this couple would make it. Truth had a lot of love and heart to put up with Jackson. I know if it was me, I would have left and probably never turned back. But, love have a way of making you do the unthinkable. I hope that in future novels of the Cedar Bend Brides, we get to see how much Jackson and Truth have evolved. Great addition Ms. Hart. I can hardly wait for the next installment.
This book starts in two parts which is perfect for story development. The scene is set with Jackson and Truth meeting each other, Danny then comes into the picture. They all share a sad background though the depth of this is revealed as the story progresses. There is sadness, guilt, feelings of inferiority, and self esteem in the characters but you will need to read this story to find out who. Once I got into the story I couldn't put it down.

This is one of those books that you feel all your emotions. I liked that the characters are written in a way that makes them feel real. At times you dislike them and others you are happy for them. Over all you can't help but love them. I really enjoyed the ups and downs that I felt while reading this book. It is a great story line and was well written. I think everyone would enjoy reading this book. Although this can be read as a stand alone, the supporting characters in the story will make you want to read all the books in the series.
An interesting premise with Truth, the new bride, meeting her brother in law, Jackson, when he has no idea who she is. He is immediately taken by her beauty and attitude, let's her know this fact, but also knows he can't have her. I wished more time was spent building their connection rather than her dating someone else after she felt the connection with Jackson, especially because she already knew how he felt. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is the third book in the series. I had a hard time with how Jackson and Truth first met. That whole premise didn't sit well with me. I also had real hard time with Jackson. I wasn't a big fan of his attitude and the way he carried himself. I understood what drove him to that point, but it rubbed me the wrong way. There were some real sad moments that had the waterworks going. I love this series, but this book just wasn't for me.
I hadn't read any of the books in this series, but Jackson and Truth have such a unique relationship that this story drew me in and made me want to read more and more. When I started this book I had no clue that it was going to take the direction that it did, there were times that it really pulled at the heart strings, but Ms Hart makes sure that we have our happy ending so it works out well. I really enjoyed Something Borrowed and I hope to read more from this author in the future.
4 stars I purchased Brides of Cedar Bend book 3 Something Borrowed by Lena Hart and this review was given freely. Jackson and his sister in law Truth heal after the death of Jackson's brother. Humor, loving friends, recovering from addiction, jealousy, a steamy scenes, and a spur of the moment wedding are just a few of the things that make this an emotional and heartwarming romance. Contains raw emotions and some violence.
2.5 stars This is my first book in this series. This story was a little hard for me to get into. I liked Jackson and Truth seperatly, but not as a couple. Their relationship felt a little weird and creepy too me. They started their relationship off on the wrong terms. I don't want to give away the plot, but to me their relationship was not really my cup of tea.
Truthfully, I feel like the pace of the book was lacking something, the progression of Truth and Jackson's relationship didn't feel natural to me. It wasn't a bad book but it could have been way better.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
While this was a wonderful story it could not get five stars because of the MANY typographical and grammatical errors. Truth and Jackson are a wonderful couple and their shared grief makes for some predictable angst.
This book was hard for me to get into, I liked Jackson's character but I felt like we needed more depth to his story. It was my first book in this series, I will try another and see if I don't like it better. I was gifted this book for a fair and honest review
I love anything written by this author. This story of Truth, Danny and his brother Jackson was wonderful. From great sadness comes a great love Awesome story. Hopefully all of the many errors will be fixed before the book is published.
***I received this book as an ARC however all thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my honest thoughts.***This is book 3 in the "Brides of Cedar Bend" series. I have read all 3 books in the series and each was is better than the last. Today is the release date of this newest addition and I just fell in love with these characters. First of all I have a thing with the tall, handsome, broody type and Jackson is the perfect example of this type of guy. He has a heart of gold and loves his brother Danny more than life itself. The meeting between Truth and Jackson is as unfortunate as it is steamy. Danny may have neglected to mention he was married to Truth and Jackson thought she was just a groupie. Flash forward to an awkward beginning of a good friendship and just as things are starting to get normal there's an accident and Jackson and Truth find themselves grieving. Neither person knows quite how to deal with the death of Danny so they end letting a year go by with no contact. 1 drunken call later and we have a truly great love story.
