Even being the best fairy godmother in all the land, Ciera’s been hiding a secret. Not only is she pregnant, but she’s magically pregnant with a human child.
Humans are not allowed in the fairy realm. Period. That includes half-fairy/half-human babies. The only solution is to give the baby to its father before the Fairy Council finds out her secret. Finding the father should be easy, how many men named John could possibly live in this place called Chicago?
Joynell Schultz spends her days working in a “reliable profession” as a veterinary pharmacist, which pays the bills, but isn’t nearly as exciting as creating alternative worlds writing speculative fiction. While shivering through the long northern Wisconsin winters with her husband, two children, and numerous pets, she enjoys reading, writing, and planning her next vacation.

For those that think a cover has little to do with a reader’s selection, I beg to differ. How could I pass up a title like Hidden: A Pregnant Fairy Godmother’s Journey? This is like finding a whole new subculture. I found the cover tastefully provocative. No, I won’t explain what that means.
Ciera is a fairy godmother who interacts with humans. That is the fairy godmother mission; it is what they do. But there are lines that can’t be crossed. Ciera loved spending time on Erde, one of three alternative universes: The Fairy Realm, Erde, and Earth. But she was curious about Earth and, even though the human realm was off-limits, Ciera looked forward to new challenges. Granting a wish to a human while she was in a dream state was possible, she knew the man wished for something although the wish wasn’t clear. She touched a finger to each of his hands, a light traveled from the man to her and she felt that his wish had been granted. Thinking back on it, he must have wished for a child. She still didn’t understand her increasingly evident pregnancy, one she tried to hide with glamor spells. Fairy pregnancies had to result from touching all ten fingers. That hadn’t happened in her case, and the result would be a cultural taboo.
There were taboos and almost taboos. In the fairy realm, there were red, green and blue fairies. Ciera was a special purple fairy, the only purple fairy, and there was going to be a problem finding a husband. Purple fairies were rare but inter-color reproduction was permitted. Crossing the line to have a human baby was not. She, her father and her family would be in disgrace, possibly banished from the Fairy Realm. The only way to manage this was to admit everything to her father. After she did so, he would come up with a solution. His solution was banishment to the village of Chicago until the birth of the child. The pregnancy would be hidden as far as the Fairy Realm was concerned. After the child’s birth, her magic powers would return, she would give the child to the father to raise, per tradition, and she would return home.
But first, she would have to survive Chicago, find the father of her child, and give birth. Living on earth was not easy. There was something called money; she had none. There were dog monsters intent on licking and possibly eating her. There was the possibility of dissection. There were no platypus eggs. By chance, she met Dane, an empathetic human who had lost a wife, was raising a daughter, and made his living as a thief. That last did not please Ciera.
This is a delightful fantasy with wonderful descriptions of what happens when reality worlds meet fantasy. It is closer to reality than Alice in Wonderland but there is an absence of drugs. We are not sure if love can conquer all, but we are rooting for it. Readers can decide who were the winners and losers at the unexpected end of this pleasant tale.
This is probably on of the most weirdest books I’ve ever read. And that particularly a bad thing. This was such a short read which I enjoyed more than I expected to. I thought this was going to be one of those books that it’s so stupid you have to love it. But I ended up actually kind of liking this book.
Plot While the story line was a little different and weird, I still liked it. But I wish the story would have gone into more depth and had been longer! There wasn’t much said about how Ceira was a purple fairy either. Wished there was more on that. Overall, this story was enjoyable.
Characters Ceira- She was such a refreshing character. She was funny and was blunt. Because she didn’t know anything about Earth, it was really fun to see what she does and everything she needs to learn. I’m really glad she changed her mind about not keeping her daughter. But I thought it was really weird and kind of creepy about the circumstances of her pregnancy. And then the father didn’t even want his child. Like hey, I know I wished for a child and then you magically got pregnant with my baby but I changed my mind, I’d rather go to New Zealand. Seriously?!?
Dane- I loved seeing his character grow and seeing the layers of his personality. He wasn’t just a thief. He was just a heart broken man trying to provide for his father. While I liked that he helped Ceira find the “man with a robot arm” he on,y did it because he thought she was crazy and so she would get the help he thought she needs. But he made up for it my agreeing to go to the other world with Ceira, her daughter, and Rosa.

Magical Connections - A collection of novellas, short and spin-off stories. They were well edited with interesting characters and suspense and intrigue, and touches of romance. Even the stories that were part of a series, could be read without knowing any other book from that series. There are no cliffhangers or continuations to another book for the rest of the story, while I certainly enjoyed. I'm looking forward to reading more of Ms. Schultz. 4*
Fangs & Fairy Dust - I enjoy Ms. Schultz's stories, which I discovered in Hexes and Ohs, and was happy to find this collection. This is a well written and believable novella introducing the Angels of Sojourn series, of which Blood & Holy Water is the first book. The main characters, a male vampire and a female human and her mother, are interesting and believable, along with action and dialog. It is fast paced and contains vivid descriptions making everything easy to visualize. Fortunately, it is not a cliffhanger. 4*
The Mail-Order Bride - I read this little story in Hexes and Ohs, my first by her. It's a new twist on a witch's tale, which makes for a cute and intriguing romance. Entertaining and enjoyable. 4*
Hidden - A lovely, heartwarming novella about discovery, love and kindness, and loneliness. Searching for her baby's father leads a pregnant fairy to new adventures and learning experiences, and a vast change to her life, while she shares her godmother skills without her magic. There's plenty of humor and danger included in this sweet story. 5*
The Enchanted Apothecary - A sweet, romantic, little story where while grieving for her mother, she has suspicions of a male customer and his use of dark magic, and how she confronts him. There's a good balance of suspense, intrigue and romance. The ending brings a big smile when the truth is told. This story is similar to the romantic stories of the superhero wives world. 4*
One Possible Future - I read this short in the Angels & Magic: Bonus Collection. An interesting, well written, quickly read story between a psychic and a fallen angel and the possible futures awaiting them. The next story is available in the Wings & Wonder boxed set. 4*
Bitten - A sad but heartwarming short story of a mother's love for her small son bitten by a werewolf. The lengths she went to keep him safe. This is a spinoff from the Angels of Sojourn Series. 4*
MY RATING SYSTEM 5 stars--WOW 4 stars--would read again 3 stars--was good, won't read again 2 stars--read it, but didn't enjoy it 1 star--didn't finish, it was so awful
Do I need to read books before this one: no Cliffhanger: no
SUMMARY Ciera's magic grows weaker because of the pregnancy, and she can no longer grant wishes. Her father finds out she's carrying a human child. They both worry they'll lose everything if anyone finds out, so Ciera comes to Earth to find the father to give him the baby. All she remembers from the dream is a robot arm and his name is John. She has some disturbing encounters in Chicago, remembers the documentaries about humans. She runs through the rain, sees someone through a big window who has a rocking chair and a quilt.
Dane is a thief, trying to find a certain jewelry box in an antique store. He first thinks he's caught, then sees she's cold and pregnant. He helps her. He steals because no one will hire someone with a criminal record. He has to provide for Rosa.
EVALUATION Cute story. Easy read.
In the fairy world, dads keep the babies because moms work granting wishes. Schools show documentaries on humans: Jaws Nightmare on Elm Street, Cujo.
I think the novella could've been a novel with greater character development. We don't see Ciera interact with any fairies so we don't understand her world and economics at all. We don't know how Erda and the fairy world work together. If fairies were dissected on Earth, how do the fairies know? Plus, I wanted to see Dane and Rosa adapt to Erda.
RECOMMENDATION Anyone wanting a whimsical hour or two. POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS) Sex: kisses only Language: 0 F words, 0 Lord's name in vain, 0 S words Violence: robbery, oblique reference to suicide
What is a Fairy Godmother to do when she finds her self pregnant? Leave her world to find the father of the baby, which is what Celia, the main character and a Fairy Godmother does. She must go to Earth to find the father of the baby she is pregnant with because Fairy Godmothers don't raise the babies. All she knows is the man's name is John and he has a silver arm. Celia has never been to Earth before, so when she finds her self there trying to find this John, she will also get a lesson on what Earth is truly like instead of what she was taught. Little does she know that finding John will be more difficult than expected. This place called Chicago, is much larger than she realized and definitely different from what she was taught. With a little help from a thief, Celia, begins her search for John so she can leave the baby with him and return home. During her search though, things don't always go as planned. Her plans will go through several twists and her life will be changed forever, but in a good way.
This was an interesting novella and gave a little insight into a Fairy Godmother's life that rarely gets told. It was an easy and enjoyable read. Following Celia on her search made an interesting story. Not knowing what she might find around the corner or the outcome when she finds John, has the reader wondering throughout the story what will happen. Nothing is given away so that you want to keep reading to find out. Very enjoyable read.

A little Piers Anthony, A little Terry Brooks and some " Fractured Fairytales from my cartoon watching days
Did you ever wonder how Fairy Godmother's were made? Did you ever think that a long with granting wishes it's a fairy Godmother's job to produce fairy babies? I guess that makes sense. How can you be a fairy god-"MOTHER" if you have never been a "mother" ?At least that's how Sierra, the pregnant fairy godmother in Hidden was told. It's just the father of Cierra's baby is human and that just isn't done in Cierra's world. So begins Cierra's trip to Earth to find her baby's father. As you can imagine all sorts of mishaps can happen when a fairy lands in Chicago with no understanding of how the human world works. It reminds me of the world's created in Piers Anthony's novels where human and magical worlds collide. Or maybe a little Terry Brooks with wizards and pixie and humans all mixed up. It was cute, lighthearted and funny in some spots. I can see my daughter and some of her fiends getting a kick out of this book. Yet, it's really not my cup of tea. I would prefer something with a little more meat on the bones. Maybe if the world's were elaborated on or if the mystery of who is the human father was expounded on, I would be more enthralled with the story.Overall it was a cute whimsical story for those who enjoy the "fractured fairytale" genre.
This book was short, sweet, and fun! Ciera is a fairy godmother who unintentionally becomes pregnant by granting a human wish for a child, and comes to the human world to give the baby to its father (the one who made the wish), a place where humans have not come for a hundred years.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a little silly, but it was in a fun, purposeful way that made me very amused, especially at all of Ciera's reactions to the world. There were some serious parts as well, though, and I loved reading about Dane and his life. Rosa was so much fun, too.
I wish we could hear more about the fairy world, the rules regarding it, and so forth. There were several things that were mentioned (different colors of fairies, roles of fairies in raising children) that weren't really developed throughout the book that I would have liked to know more about. That didn't really detract too much from the story, though.
I was a little worried by the premise that the book would not be clean, but it is, though there are (obviously) a lot of mentions of the pregnancy. I think there was one minor swear word, but otherwise it was clean, and I enjoyed reading it!
kindle unlimited but got it on a freebie day after read it a while back, forgot to do review, bit too cutesy and convoluted for me, though do read redone fairy tale type things, just eh, like some of her other books, this one not so much, the blurb below says it's because baby is at least part human, but in the story she says over and over that the mothers never raise the babies, the fathers do....
Fans of the movie "Enchanted" that came out a few years ago will probably like this. It's sweet without being sappy and has plenty of great moments.
This was a really nice, fairly short story. The main character, Ciera, was very likeable as she dealt with a world that was unfamiliar. I liked that the male lead was interesting all by himself. He had a history and things going on in his life. I also liked that this story is about more than just romance. Love of family is a big theme here.
I hope this story continues. I'd like to see the other two worlds besides Earth explored. Also, it would be fun to see what the future might hold for these characters.
I really liked this story!! It was well written and gets you hooked right away to find out what happens next. Imagine—a pregnant fairy godmother coming to earth to find the “father” of her unborn child in a little place like Chicago.
It was a joy and delight to read. I had to finish it because I didn’t want to leave it unfinished!! I just had to see what happened next!
I highly recommended this book. If you like fantasy and fairies this is for you. You will not regret your decision to read it I can assure you. I for one look forward to see if there is a sequel to it in Joynells mind.
I must say she is a fantastic author. Her way of words and her story were just great!
This book starts out with a fairy, Ciera, in a magical land called Erde where she grants wishes as her occupation. Only problem is that she ends up pregnant due to one man's wish. She immediately goes to her father for help. Her father suggest that she find the father, John, and leave the child with him. Her father then sends her to Earth (Chicago) where she meets a human named Dane. Her and Dane meet only because she seeks a warm place to stay and walk in on Dane robbing a jewelry store. Dane takes her in and offers to help her find John. Ciera learns that Dane has a daughter, Rosa, and its not such a bad human. Super cute story, and everyone should check it out.
What a beautiful story. I cried, laughed, and smiled. Ciera's journey from beginning to end was a story of desperate need that turned into hope and love. Dane is a different character than we usually see in love stories, but I know he was perfect for our quirky Ciera. I would love to re-read this book again.
Hidden is a short story set in a fantasy and modern setting, perfect for those who enjoy love stories. I would compare this book to the Disney movie Enchanted.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I loved this novella, as I have loved the other books by Ms Schultz that I've read. I think she is incredibly creative, her stories ingenious, and her characters unique. In this book, I was immediately draw in, not only by the interesting plot, but also by the sweetness of the characters. Ciera was utterly adorable! And Dane, though a thief, was such a good-hearted man that it was impossible for me not to root for him. I loved the way everything played out and how all the storylines were wrapped up. I also really appreciate that it was a clean read. Thanks, Ms Schultz, for a thoroughly entertaining fairy godmother story!
Ciera is a fairy Godmother - she loves her work - but then finds herself becoming pregnant through a dream. That would be fine - except that it appears that the father is human, and interaction between their worlds is forbidden. So she must go to Chicago, and find the baby's father - a man called John, with a mechanical arm. Really, how hard would that be? She meets Dane - he is a thief - and not her baby's father, but he treats her well. But she has to find John, leave the baby with him and return home - doesnt she? I loved the twists and turns in this cute story!

Hidden: The Quirky Tale of a Pregnant Fairy Godmother by Joynell Schultz is a fantasy story about a fairy godmother named Cierra who is pregnant by a human man she met in a dream. Her magic is not working and she needs to find the father of her child. Cierra asks her father for help and her sends her to the city of Chicago to find what she needs. This is a twisty, fun, and humorous story that I found entrancingly sweet and humorous. It made me smile from start to finish. It’s absolutely the perfect read for any fantasy romance lover. Hidden: The Quirky Tale of a Pregnant Fairy Godmother is a very special fairy tale.
Ciera, the best fairy godmother in all her realm, is pregnant with a human child. Unfortunately, all humans, even half-humans, have been banned. Furthermore, should she be exposed, she will lose her prestige. Her only choice is to deliver the child to its father, John, in the human hamlet of Chicago somewhere in the Earth realm. Easy peasy.
This Fairy Tale Fantasy is splendid. This tale works exceptionally well due to the elements of the realms' culture presented. The end is heartwarming.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very fun, very cute read about a fairy godmother named Ciera. The synopsis tells you the plot pretty well, so I won't restate it.
I absolutely loved these characters. They were amazing. I fell in love with Dane, and Rosa was so sweet - she reminds me of me at that age. Ciera herself was wonderful, too, and I'd love to see more of these characters.
The story was cute, and I liked how things panned out.
Being a fairy godmother seems to be a dangerous occupation. When the wish is not what she hears, one fairy godmother ends up granting a wish that lands her in a very sticky predicament. Not all is lost - she manages to find love with a skeptic but golden-hearted thief. As always, Joynell Schultz gives a sweet and inspiring love story that is equal parts magic, hope and wishes granted for dreams come true.

I love Joynell's books. She writes with passion and great imagination and this book is no exception. I was expecting a tale of how an unexpected family is formed but this confounded all my expectations with the direction it took. I like to be surprised by a book and I certainly was with this one. A lovely tale, well written and well told, a delightful read. I received an ARC from the author but am voluntarily writing a review and the opinions are my own.
Seldom does a story’s title tell you so much about a storyteller and plot. Cierra is a top notch fairy godmother. Only she got in her predicament by magic as she granted a wish. Now she finds her magic is curtailed by the immenant birth of her child. What we have is a whimsical jaunt through the streets of Chicago looking for a man named John. Whacky some may call it, witty and hilarious also fit this marvelous tale of magic as everyone and everything ends “happily ever after “.
This was a sweet, endearing story about doing the right thing, finding love in unexpected places, and listening to the heart. And that even fairy godmothers don’t always have their act together. I really enjoyed reading about life in Chicago from a fairy’s perspective, and hope that someday we’ll get to read about how life in Erde has been treating Rosaleen and Dane.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
When I was looking for something different to read, this quirky tale was what I found. Whoever heard of a pregnant fairy godmother? I never did. Until this book. I really loved the story, an unbelievable way to get pregnant but anything is possible when an author is in her element! Ciera is the sweetest fairy and she was so fortunate to meet Dane. His heart was always in the right place.

This is a very romantic story of a young , not too young, , special fairy who with eyes wide open, leaves her father and travels to a new world. Her exploits are many and varied and she begins to understand why. This world she came to is off limits. While reading this tale I felt young again. As I did when I began exploring my new world. Thank you very much, Jjoynell Schultz. I don't have my glasses on so please forgive misspelled words.
What a feel good story. Ceira is a fairy godmother who has to hide in the human realm while looking for her baby's father. She meets Dane and they develop a relationship and get to know each other as he tries to help her. Ceira realizes their are other possibilities for her. There were cute and funny parts but best of all was the protectiveness of Dane and their feelings for each other.
This is a cute little story about a fairy who just wants to grant wishes but when one of those wishes involves her getting pregnant, everything changes. I loved the funny side jokes like references on „documentaries“ the fairies had to watch: Cujo, Halloween, and other horror movies to make them fear the human world. And Ceira is just adorable. A heart warming quick read.
