We’re the Harts. Between an engagement, a wedding and an adoption, we’ve had the best year of our lives. Things have never looked better for any of us.
But just because you say “I do” doesn’t mean you get a happily ever after. And sometimes, you get tackled more in life than you ever did on the football field.
The only way we’re going to make it through is if we do it together…Hart to Heart.
Grab the tissues. Strap in your ovaries. This is one Shred-Your-Mommy-Heart read.
Warning: This is the second in the Hart Series. It could be read as a stand alone, but you will be more invested and have a better understanding of the story if you read the first book first.
Jason Hart is a pro-football player who has seen his dreams come true. He has a great career. He is marrying the woman he loves and is and adopting her son as his. Jaxon is a great kid and the reason Jason and Addison met in the first place. Life is good for Jason Hart.
Sleep well? I was...but waking up is so much better.
Problem is that life likes to tackle you just when you think the field is clear. And tackle hard. Jason and his young, new family are faced with life-changing, life-threatening situations. They must make decisions with their heads when their hearts are broken.
I was so exhausted from being on the road and because of how late it was, but I couldn't shut my brain down. The feeling was overwhelming.
Overwhelming is a good word for this one. You will be overwhelmed by the emotion, the desperation, the helplessness.
Ms Carter's first book gave us hope and happy, warm fuzzy feelings. Apparently that wasn't enough for her. She felt the need to shred us with every parent's nightmare and then inspire us to help change the reality so many families live with every day. I'm kind of worried about what her next book will bring. I'll dread/anticipate it while I am over here in the corner sucking my thumb with my glass of wine and Cowboys snuggie.
Prepare to yourself for an emotional ride. Erase whatever you think you may have felt about this series. It doesn't matter how you felt about Change of Hart. It doesn't matter what you think you know about M. E. Carter's writing style. Hart to Heart takes you on a journey that changes everything. M. E. Carter proves with this second book that she deserves your attention and admiration.
Whether you loved or hated the first book, I promise you should give Hart to Heart a chance.
In less than a day, M. E. Carter straight up ice picked me in the heart. Then the gut. It wasn't all tears. I did laugh out loud a couple of times. Oh my gawd, lazy eye. Hahaha.
Here is the dealio. You people better straight up go and one click preorder Hart to Heart. Immediately.
It is a beautiful and heartbreaking and beautiful conclusion to this story. And, heartbreaking. Did I say that already?
I remember sitting at ABF with Ms. Carter discussing what constitutes a 5 star book. She laughed because someone had given Change of Hart 5 stars. She was like it's not the type of book you give 5 stars.
I disagreed. I said, it is absolutely a 5 star fun, light and feel good story. I loved it. I smiled a lot while reading Jason, Addison and Jax's initial story. It made me feel good. I think she said something along the lines of..."well, I didn't think of it that way." Or something. Don't quote me verbatim. Ha.
I just want to say that without a single moment of hesitation, Hart to Heart is a 5 star book. This was a whole new impressive level of writing from the first book. I cried. Lord, I cried so hard at one point my husband heard me from the bedroom into the living room. He was concerned then annoyed when he figured it out that I was crying over a book. I blamed M. E. Carter.
So, thanks Ms.Carter. (No, not Beyoncé) Thank you for writing an amazing story and for sharing it with all of us.
I have no words that could ever do this one justice. Tears, sobs, and smiles all are incorporated. But the tributes and the actual feelings of all the emotions are up front and center. You'll live them right along with these characters and they'll give you understanding and compassion in ways you've only ever imagined. A love story for parents. Hart to Heart will fill your heart to overflowing and then some. M.E. Hart has done an amazing job of creating realness and paying tribute to those whose lives are challenged each day and by those who stand tall to help when duty calls.
5 star #mustclick book http://amzn.to/1JSntcO First if you have not read Change of Hart stop reading this review and go #1click it, it is wonderful book told in the male POV as the reader witnesses pro football player Jason Hart fall for single mom Addison.
Hart to Heart opens with Addison and Jason’s breathtaking wedding one so perfect for them as it is set outside of the medias eye.
I want to pause and say this book is not a book that breaks a couple up just so the author can write a book two, this book takes a hard look at love through tough times. This review will be short because I plan to give nothing away about the plot. I want to compel readers who love adults stories, book with no drama just for drama, books that will capture your soul to 1-click and read without telling you the storyline. I truly feel it will be more powerful to experience it as Ms Carter wrote it.
Jason and Addison’s newly married life is not what they envisions when they said I do but marriage is about dealing with the crap thrown out you and Ms Carter nailed it!!
Ms Carter again nailed the male POV, I loved Jason, his range of emotions in this book had me falling even more in love with him. There is a scene with him anger that was so powerful, my heart broke for this man who was powerless to help the situation that engulfed his life.
Throughout this story Jaxon, Addison’s son, now also Jason’s son was well so well written. This young man touched my heart, there were so many engaging scene with him.
Now the use of Matty……. that was outstanding.. it layers so many emotions for so many in the story, witnessing resented turn to agony turn to love was masterfully written. And the use of him was the perfect resolution. It is not what you think and NO I will not tell you, READ THIS 5 star book!
Omg I love the tie with the book title and how it was layered into the end of the story.
The end of this book was so perfect, it tied so many pieces together while saying true to the storyline.
Ps bring tissues for this one and there are few times throughout the book that will touch your soul and tear you up!!!
Do not read this book in public. It will rip your heart out and make you ugly cry. You have been warned. The sequel to Change of Hart is so sad in places and it made me sob. The bravery, compassion, love and pure innocence shines out from these pages. I loved the ending but I have no tissues left in my house owing to my sobfest.
Okay, I enjoyed this one way more than the first book. The emotional rollercoaster was in full effect. One minute I was laughing about banter between Jason and Duce. Next minute I was grabbing the tissues. It’s always a hard read when young kids are involved. Great followup to the first book.
I love this series, this book, this author!! I don't think I was warned just how emotional this book was going to be!! The audiobooks for this series are amazing! 5 Stars all the way!
“I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t just wrong, but that nothing would ever be the same.”
Wow didn't see this book coming. After a sweat sports romance this is a total 180 with all the feels and tears. Book starts with Addison and Jason in Scotland with their friends and family celebrating their nuptials. This is the start of the roller coaster. Soon after returning home circumstances turn worrisome and soon the romance may be forgotten with more pressing needs take precedence. Jason money and fame may help but it won't get them out of this predicament. I want to say more but I don't want to ruin the twist within this book.
You will worry and shed tears than when you think you are out of the woods you shed more tears and the worrisome feelings you will feel will turn your hair gray, in my case, grayer. Addison, Jason, Jaxon and the crew will show you strength and courage like you wouldn't believe. I know this is a short review but I really dont want to spoil the twist and turns that comprise the book, start to finish.
5 stars HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION for this book & series. Just wow ME Carter!!!!
I held on for a while there but at the end I couldn’t hold back the knot in my throat anymore. Seriously an emotional story. We have already met this couple before and so I didn’t know what to expect for them in this one. But then they hit us in the feelings again and again and just, wow. This is emotional and intense and very raw so be prepared for that. But in the end I’m so glad I tackled this one as well.
So I actually listened to this on my Adible Romance Package and I was blown away.
Omg, I need more! I love this series so much and never want it to end! The narrator is beyond perfect and his voice makes me want to have his babies, wait, what...
This story was so heartfelt and honest and gut-wrenchingly raw at times. But it also made me laugh and hug my babies tight. I have a friend going through this right now and it's heartbreaking. I love the awareness this brings to the details most don't think about.
Overall, I loved this book and is a must read, but bring tissues.
What a beautiful continuation of book one!! Jason has found himself an amazing family and Jaxon is as adorable as ever!! Addison is still a beautiful mom and now wife to a man who loves her with all of his heart!! But things don’t always go as planned so we get to experience a very difficult situation this new little family comes face to face with. How would any of us do in this situation??? I really don’t know. But I hope everyone takes the time to read this beautiful book!! It truly is amazing!!
Wow! As others have said, this is not your typical romance novel and the subject matter goes from light to sexy to heart-stopping to sad to happy to scary and a host of other emotions. No spoilers here but I will elude to some situations and information from the first book. If you didn't read the first book, stop and read it before reading this book.
1. Make sure you have tissues. If you don't tear up while reading this, you are either a Sociopath or have no tear ducts.
2. The subject matter is tough and the character's emotions are very realistic. It shows how love and understanding help as much as the best professionals.
3. It was painful to hear the story of the father of a 2 year old in this story. It points out what needs to be fixed in both the insurance industry plus how the government doles out financial support. Just because a person or family makes a certain income, doesn't mean that they cannot use support in incredible circumstances.
4. I love how the author wove the supporting characters in to the story. From his best friend and his wife, his family, her father in law and sister and even his publicist and team members, they all played a role and showed how people can come together in extraordinary times. Unfortunately, you also find out who are true friends and who are only there when times are good.
5. This series focuses on people that are much more realistic than most books I have listened to or read in this genre (information from the first book will follow). The main male character is a top defensive player for the Dallas Cowboys and the main female character went back to social work after the death of her first husband. He describes his body as Sponge-Bob as he doesn't have cut abs or the trailing V, even though he is a professional football player. She describes her body as soft, breasts not perfect and thunder-thighs. He loves her and even loves her stretch marks as they were the result of Jaxson! He also needs to recharge and the sexual encounters don't produce hundreds of orgasims per hour (slight exaggeration)!
The strong focus on perfect bodies, huge members and unending sex drives that result in powerful and amazing orgasims every time is so unrealistic that it becomes laughable. This series (at least the first two books) is relatable in every way and that is refreshing. I know that reading is often an escape but the unrealistic sexual prowess and perfect bodies can lead people to question a good relationship to a person that doesn't meet these lofty ideals.
Being a Dallas area resident, the fact that this took place in the Metroplex was a definite bonus. This is a series that I don't want to end and I am looking forward to listening to the next book in the series!
M.E. has easily become one of my all-time favorite writers. She blew me away with Change of Hart, so when I heard we were getting more I literally could not wait!! I for sure wanted more from this amazing group of characters and boy oh boy did I get a story!! I literally had to sit and think on how to put words down to how I was feeling!! This book blew me away. I do not want to give anything away with my review! Everyone needs to experience this heartfelt, amazing book for themselves!!
I absolutley devoured this book in one sitting. I can not explain the emotions I felt while reading it! Yes I laughed and oh boy did I cry. But one thing I can for sure say is that Hart to Heart is a beautiful story that will stay with me. Life is not always easy and sometimes life gives you things you think you can't handle, but that is real!! Thats the best way to desccribe how I felt, this book is about real, hard, tough things in life!
Of course all the characters are still amazing as ever and yes Jax of couse stole the show. That little boy will melt your heart the whole way through.
I would definitley with every fiber in my body urge everyone to read this purely amazing, beautiful, REAL book!! M.E. outdid herself with this one and I for one can not wait for more to come from her in the future!!!
This is a tough review to write, because if I reveal the source of the angst in this story, it would be a huge spoiler. So I will say this-I liked Change of Hart. I LOVED Hart to Heart. There is no unnecessary drama, the life altering events that are taking place in Addison and Jason's life will forever define their love. They are strong, but they are at their breaking point-pushed by obstacles so huge and heart breaking that I wondered how they could ever survive.
I cried more than once while reading this story. It is so beautiful that it will stay with me for a long time. I think what I loved most is that this book take a serious subject that could become over the top. Instead the characters heartbreaking reactions are so real (even when they are ugly and painful) and that is so hard to do-to balance the anguish and yet not let it overtake the story. So well written and such a wonderful read!
After reading Change of Hart, I fell in love with Jason and Jaxon. So when I heard there would be a second book, I couldn't wait to see more of their story. It picks up a little later where Jason and Addison get married and he adopts Jaxon. What I didn't expect was what followed afterwards.
Without giving away the story, the saying "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have" is so true. The Harts needed all the strength they could get. Such an emotional story. Let me just say I loved Deuce in book 1 and I loved him here too. Sure he jokes alot, but when things get tough, he is there for his best friend.
You'll experience every emotion possible. From anger, sadness, asking why, love happiness...this is one book that will stay with you for a while.
It is an incredibly touching story that will challenge your complacency in our everyday lives. Makes you think of things that actually matter: the more important things in life. This story opens your eyes to things we all know but don't do anything about since it might not directly affect us yet.
I was ready to marry Jason Hart when I read the first book, but by the time I finished this one, I'm ready to create my own if I can't find him. Everyone needs one of him in their lives. Not to mention poor Addison. I love that woman. Her character is very relatable and understandable. Very real.
Please take the time to read this book. You will not regret it.
I won an ARC copy of this in a contest and I am so freaking glad I did! WOW!! This book blew me away! I went in blind and had no idea what M.E. Carter was giving us this time.I won't say to much bc you deserve to read this and experience it for yourself and I am afraid to give away any spoilers. I will say I felt like she has grown so much from Change of Hart. I loved Change of Hart too, but this to me was on another level. It was real, raw and emotional! It was so gut wrenching, heart warming and beautiful all at the same time. It hit me on a level that left me with tears in my eyes on several occasions and then smiling and my heart feeling so full! I truly loved every page.
I didn't want to read this, honestly. I wanted to leave them in their HEA. But I am so glad I did. And I really hope people do go on and read Hart to Heart. The issues in this book need awareness brought to them and ME Carter has done that in such devastatingly good way. I hope people read this book and DO SOMETHING.
This book was heart wrenching, painful and honestly beautiful. It was so hard to read but so amazing at the same time. To watch Jason and Addison go through all that they did, the downs and the rock bottoms, and yet they make it out. They fight through it together and come out stronger than ever. So many tears but so good.
This is a great story - but it's full of drama, drama, drama. If you're looking for a light and fun romance, this isn't it. I think it's meant to tug at your heart strings and it does that very, very well. It isn't overly dark and depressing but it is certainly heart wrenching. In the end, the way it wraps up is very sweet. I was afraid it would end badly - but no, that HEA is still in there.
Jacob Morgan is fantastic on the audio. The guy seriously knows what he's doing.
This story takes place after the wedding of Jason and Addison and just when you think you know the direction the story is going, it pivots in the most devastating way. This young family struggles with the unimaginable when young Jaxon gets sick but they also find their strength too.
Bringing awareness to real life situations without making the story completely hopeless is a special gift in writing ,well done M.E.Carter!
There was crying and then more crying. Lots of leaking eyes. Did I mention there was crying?
Book one of this series was low on the angst scale but damn this one was heartbreaking. Such great characters. I don't want to spoil anything but I need to say it's all ok.
I'm definitely a new fan of M.E. Carter. Looking forward to reading more of her books.
Ok so I totally fell in love with Jason Hart in Change of Hart....and I so enjoyed experiencing he and Addison falling in love and Jason's relationship with Addison's son Jaxson. It was a happy read, then M.E. Carter had plans for fans of this family...and it wasn't happy, it was heart wrenching at times, but the love and strength of this couple was incredible. This duet should not be missed!
I was not prepared for the heartbreak in this book! I thought that the book was filled with angst but so sweet. My heart broke throughout this story. There was so many tough decisions that had to be made but it was a great show of how families pull together in the time of need. Grab a box of tissue and see how Jason, Addison, and Jaxon story continues!
