When Jillian Rae Walsh finally meets fellow author Joseph McDormand after flirting online for months, she has no choice but to admit that she has been lying to him about her age and life experiences. Rather than the divorced, early-middle-aged woman she had pretended to be in the hopes that readers would take her more seriously, she is actually twenty-two and never married.Joseph makes it clear that he will not tolerate being lied to, and if they are going to pursue a romance Jillian will need to be punished for her deception. All is forgiven after a well-deserved bare-bottom spanking and some time in the corner to reflect on her naughty behavior, but it isn't long before an ill-advised drive home after a night of drinking gets her in more serious trouble.Deciding that it is time for more drastic action, Joseph informs Jillian that he will be taking on the role of her firm but loving daddy, and she soon learns that there are more intimate, embarrassing ways than a spanking to teach a naughty little girl to be good. Yet even when his stern punishments leave her cheeks blushing and her bottom sore both inside and out, Jillian cannot imagine feeling safer and more loved than she does in Joseph's arms. But Jillian has not told Joseph the full truth about her past, and when a man who has hurt her before seems intent on doing so again it will be up to him to keep her safe. Can her daddy find a way to protect his little girl before it is too late?Publisher's The Daddy She Needed includes spankings, sexual scenes, and elements of age play. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.
I find that it mostly reads like a typical romance story. You know, a relationship forming between two people, working its way toward that happily-ever-after set in the future. And then it's flavored with a few different spices. There's some Daddy kink with some stern vocal authority, some corner time, and some spanking. Then they're both authors, so an anchor of the relationship fiddling is talking about all things in regards to writing books and being an author and dealing with 1-star reviews on Goodreads and such. And then there's a bad guy who of course needs to be dealt with to ensure that happily-ever-after can ever come to fruition. And a psychlogist and a best-friend couple of course, to fill up the standard repetoire of supporting characters.
So yeah, it's a typical romance story with a few spices thrown in for good taste.
I think it's an all-around decent book that most people can read an enjoy. There really is nothing to fault it for. Its shortcommings for me relate mostly to the fact that it doesn't stand out in any particular way. The Daddy kink is there, but lots of other books do that too, but it's not super intense here. There's a bad guy, but lots of books have bad guys, but this bad guy isn't terrifyingly bad. And there's the whole underlying theme of "I'm an author writing a book where the characters are also authors, so let me cram a lot of *wink* *wink* author references in, because I can!"....which I'm not sure if I find particularly interesting. It's just there.
Shelly Douglas created an incredibly romantic and suspenseful tale! In this interesting storyline, the hero and heroine are both authors, Jill writes sexy age-play stories, and in contrast, Joe’s novels are much darker in content. I don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun by giving away too many details, so let’s just say that in in their real life, the shoe was on the other foot and it paved the way for some terrific tense situations!
The sex and discipline scenes are hot as hell, and as always, this author did not disappoint when it came to amusing banter between the main characters. Because of some intriguing backstory on Jill and entertaining twists in the plot, this book turned into one extremely romantic and suspenseful read that I highly recommend!
In this story, I often felt like I was reading a diary, or a chronicle of episodes, but not necessarily a narrative that allowed the reader to connect with the characters. Also, Jill's brattiness showed up as demeaning to "Joey," and for all testaments to her maturity, she never appeared to be, in the slightest.
I really enjoyed this read from Shelly Douglas. This was a great story line with twists and hot scenes that kept it interesting. Jillian was an exciting character to follow and I cannot wait for the next novel!
I have a hard time writing reviews. When I give five stars it means I truly enjoyed the book for the story and the pleasure I get from it. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
