Loss. Adversity. Love. Hope. Everything I Left Behind examines these stages in life through Alexis' perspective as a young woman living with an anxiety disorder. Having developed her disorder in her twenties, Alexis explores the feelings of loss that are experienced when one suddenly has a change in their health and identity. Refreshingly vulnerable and candid, Everything I Left Behind is a diverse poetry collection that is relatable not only to others living with anxiety but to anyone dealing with adversity. This journey from loss to acceptance reminds us that even when we are forced to leave aspects of ourselves behind, there is still hope to be picked up along the way.
I am constantly on Instagram and Tumblr, finding the next bit of relatable writing to screenshot to repost or put in my photo captions. My favorites from Alexis's _Everything I left Behind_ easily produced relatable content that makes you feel less alone. Some of my personal favorites are: "Isn't It Wild?," "The Kind of Girl," "Third Wheeling," "Imagine," and "Oceans."
Another thing I liked about this book is the personal touch and the quotes included for each theme/section. Two thumbs up!
I tend to turn towards poetry when the lights go out a bit sooner than usual. Alexis Dent breaks up this short book of poems into different sections based on what they are based on. Love, health, etc. A nice selection of insight and art.
