I've just finished reading this biography of Aminu Kano, a political saint who championed the cause of the talakawa through his Gandhi-style philosophy of nonviolent resistance, with his supporters using self-defense when necessary in response to the antagonistic politics of the Sardauna-led NPC. Mallam might be a dominating figure in his political camp, but it was obvious that he was not motivated by personal gain, unlike many of our current political opportunists. It's disheartening that many of his mentees have abandoned his ideas in favor of self-enrichment at the expense of the masses.
