Ex-insurance investigator Jeff Resnick finds himself drawn to solving crimes. His brother, Richard, thinks that could be the basis of a paying business. Reluctantly, Jeff agrees, and their first case is about a child who vanished more than two decades before. Meanwhile, Jeff bumps into an acquaintance whose history is very similar to that of the missing girl. Is it coincidence or is there a pattern that links him to her and his future?
The immensely popular Booktown Mystery series is what put Lorraine Bartlett’s pen name Lorna Barrett on the New York Times Bestseller list, but it’s her talent -- whether writing as Lorna, or L.L. Bartlett, or Lorraine Bartlett -- that keeps her there. This multi-published, Agatha-nominated author pens the exciting Jeff Resnick Mysteries as well as the acclaimed Victoria Square and Lotus Bay Mystery series, and now the Tales of Telenia fantasy saga, and has many short stories and novellas to her name(s). Richard has convinced Jeff to put their skills to good use by opening up their own investigation business, with cold cases their specialty. Jeff is not really convinced, especially since his psychic mentor, Sophia, is angry with him for charging fees to use his ability. He agrees to give it a go, but first wants to clean up a cold case that has been sitting on the back burner for a while...that of a five-year old child gone missing for twenty years. This story helps further the main characters' development, as well as bringing some enhancement to Jeff's psychic abilities. I enjoy the relationship Jeff has with his mentor, as well as with Richard and Brenda. I loved his sympathy with the plight of the dog, Holly. The twist at the end was interesting and I look forward to see how things play out in future stories. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this advance reading copy.
Jeff Resnick is back! I have been missing him and his family and friends. Richard and Jeff open up an jnvestigation agency to help the police department with cold cases. Using Jeff's psychic powers, he figures out their first case, which hits close to home. Will they succeed? Time will tell. This is a page-turning short- story that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Jeff and Richard have opened up a business. What kind of business, well solving crimes of course, cold cases. Their first case is a missing girl. Is she dead or still alive!? Why does Jeff feel like a ghost is part of this case? What is happening between Jeff and Maggie? What's the feeling he is getting from her new place? Oh so many questions and I hope answers as I wait for the next book in this absolutely wonderful series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A Part of the Pattern: A Jeff Resnick Mysteries Companion Story (Jeff Resnick's Personal Files Book 7) by L.L. Bartlett
Ex-insurance investigator Jeff Resnick and his brother are starting a new consulting business helping solve cold cases. Their first case happened over two decades when a five year old little girl went missing from her front yard. Is the the little girl alive or dead? Can Jeff find out what happened to the little girl? Is Jeff’s hunch that the little girl is still alive and all grown up true?
This was my first book in this series. I was really entertained by the story and was surprised at the ending. I loved how Jeff trusted his feelings when everyone else was hesitant to believe the little girl was still alive. This was a very quick read but I really enjoyed the characters and and the mystery was intriguing and held my attention until the end.
I will definitely read more books in the series and would recommend this book to all mystery lovers. This book contains no graphic sex, language or violence.
I'm on a short story kick lately, which is great since my kids are back in school and I am always in the car running back and forth. This mystery story is part of the Jeff Resnick Mystery series, but you can read it without having read any of the other books in the series. As a consequence of a skull fracture, Jeff has some psychic abilities that are very useful when it comes to crime solving. That's why he and his half-brother decide to open their own investigation office. The first case they have is a cold case, a missing child from two decades ago. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. It was fun watching Jeff connect the dots and follow the leads, and if you are worried about gore and/or violence, don't....there's none of that here, just a solid mystery.
My only complaint is the story is too short. Hopefully a full length book is in the making as I write this. Love that Jeff and his brother will be solving cold cases.
One complaint as always too short! Jeff is my worst literary crush ever. Can not get enough of all the characters, well maybe Maggie. Hey let’s solve Maggie’s murder next....not a spoiler she is not dead ... yet.
AT 33% I KNEW WHERE THIS WAS HEADED, AND THEY NEVER THOUGHT THEY HAD THE COFFEE CUP. YAY ME! JEFF IS A VERY STRANGE QUIRKY KINDA GUY. SOME OF THAT STEMS FROM HIM BEING ATTACKED BUT I THINK JEFF WAS ALWAYS DIFFERENT AND I DON'T MEAN THAT IN A BAD WAY EITHER. I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS. ;D
Jeff and Richard have opened a cold case business and with Jeff's insight, should be successful. In their first case, they are trying to find a child from years ago who disappeared from in front of her house. I think Jeff and Richard's new business is going to bring us much entertainment. Pick up your copy soon!!!
I love the Jeff Resnick series, but I wish that this was longer! I missed the exposure of all of the characters. They're a terrific bunch! I recommend starting with the first novel in the series, "Murder on the Mind", before delving into the short stories. That way all of the dynamics and quirks of the characters can be fully appreciated.
