eading this autobiography was a fascinating experience, made even better by tracking down footage of the moments it described. One of the most surreal scenes was Sonny Liston pulling out a gun, firing, and sending Muhammad Ali and his crew scrambling—only to reveal that the gun was loaded with blanks. Seeing that play out and then reading Ali’s reaction, his embarrassment in the aftermath, added another layer to the narrative.
The book’s central theme of self-determination shines through powerfully. From childhood to championship, Ali never wavered in his pursuit of the title. His respect for the greats before him is evident—though he didn’t always show it to their faces.
I highly recommend this book for young readers, especially preteens, before the world dulls their ambition. A compelling read that captures the essence of what it means to carve your own path.
After reading this book I had more knowledge about boxing and Muhammad Ali than I had before. Within this book you'll learn all about the career of Muhammad Ali and how he progressed from a nobody to one of boxing's best. He even claimed before his career took off "I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was". The sport of boxing had never seen a personality like Ali's which made him so well liked. The book does a good job formatting his career as it leads up to one of the biggest fights in history. Overall, this book was well written and I'd recommend you read it.
Relive Muhammad Ali's epic fights against Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, and Sonny Liston in his own words. I appreciated hearing about Ali's early life because it is another reminder of how boxing has saved way more lives than it has taken. There are parts of the book I don't believe such as the second Sonny Liston fight not being fixed but who knows? This epic story shines light on not only the life of Muhammad Ali, but on the world of boxing as well.
Simply phenomenal. I did the audio book and loved it. Especially the chapter on his first fight with Foreman. You always hear how great a man he was but this book provided a deeper insight into his mindset and remarkable confident.
Muhammed Ali was truly one of the greatest boxers of all time, and he surly made this known to everyone around him. Not only was he one of the best boxers of all time he's even mentioned as one of the best overall athletes ever. Ali wasn't just known for his boxing though, he was also known for his ecstatic personality and unforgettable quotes. The mixture of his cunning youth, and his excellent skill in the ring made him an icon and someone you had to watch. At the age of 18 Ali won the light heavyweight division at the summer Olympics and turned professional later that year. With a gold medal under his belt and all the confidence in the world Ali was able to pull off some major upsets in the boxing world. Ali was more than a boxer though, he also was a believer in Islam. His real name isn't even Muhammed Ali, its Cassious Clay. Clay changed it to Muhammed Ali, because he converted to Islam and called it his salve name. He was also an icon in the civil rights movement, and he was a big role model to others during it. Ali was also in the spotlight when he refused to join the war even though he was drafted, arguing that it was against he faith to fight. Even though there was some controversy at the end of his life, he is still one of the best athletes to live. I liked this book, and I enjoyed reading about Ali's youth days, his big personality, and his outstanding athleticism. I would recommend this book for young adults and up, and to whoever likes boxing or has heard of Muhammed Ali.
