A Place to Call Home… It’s exactly what widowed father Luke Allred is looking for when he brings his son and daughter back to his hometown of Mountain Meadow, Virginia. Luke knows he needs to be a better daddy for his troubled kids, but his work as a veterinarian made it difficult in the past. He’s vowed to change, but he needs help while he settles into his new position with the local animal hospital. Rachel Hastings is a woman with a healing touch. She takes in injured and orphaned animals, so helping out with two new-to-town children shouldn’t be tough. What she hasn’t counted on is their sexy father, her secret crush from back in their high school days. Their attraction is immediate, but so many obstacles stand in the way. Luke and his family still grapple with the shock of the accident that killed his wife. Rachel carries baggage from her own failed marriage. Worst of all, Luke’s children hide a secret that is tearing them apart and may destroy any chance Luke and Rachel have of building a future together. Don’t miss Healing Touch, book one of a sexy new contemporary series from author Laura Browning.
DNF at 22% The sex is all wrong. His wife has been dead for a year. His children are traumatised. They’ve known each other less than a week. There’s been no development of a relationship, just lust. Meh
Laura Browning’s latest is one of her best. When Luke Allred, a widower has moved home to try to heal himself and his devastated children with the help of family and long time friends. He’s unprepared for being a single parent and unable to penetrate the barrier that both children have erected around themselves in their pain.
Rachel Hastings isn’t sure how to feel about her high school crush coming back to town. Her life hasn’t been the easiest but she’s found her place and her peace. Now with Luke back, her life is about to take a major turn.
Ms. Browning has created full and rich characters that you want to know and root for. Don’t miss this one.
All fall short of God's glory and these Christian folk did a lot of it. Lust superseded love, adultery exposed to children and others but still God looked beyond their faults and continued to bless them.
The premise was interesting, but the execution left much to be desired. The sex scenes were unnecessary and took away from the story. The characters were not believable for their assigned ages- at least for the kids. One was noted to be eight years old, but sounded closer to between 4-6 with a somewhat higher vocabulary at times. Her comprehension and behavior did not match. Some aspects were written repeatedly, which was frustrating to read over and over. There were several instances where the characters seemed to understand something, and then all of a sudden be clueless about it again. I skimmed a lot of this story because of that. I face-palmed quite a few times. I wanted to shake the characters and exclaim, “You KNEW that already! What’s your deal??” This book has a lot of potential, but was definitely NOT ready for publication.
Note to the author: it’s really difficult to write a full story as it is, but it’s worth having the right eyes on it before presenting it to the world. Put it through refiner’s fire, because this could be a really good thing if you do. But don’t stop halfway. You’ve got this!
A touching story of a veterinarian, Luke, with 2 children who brings his children to the small town where he grew up. His wife had died in a car accident and his son, Jared, was angry and belligerent, while his daughter, Emma, had stopped speaking at all. He meets a woman, Rachel, he barely remembers from high school. She reluctantly agrees to take care of the children, during work hours. As his daughter gets closer to Rachel, his son seems to grow angrier and more remote. As Rachel and Luke become closer, his children react in opposite ways.
A very well written romantic story of how to become a family.
Sweet but there is too quick a jump into the sex in this story. Even though they knew each other at school, his wife has only been dead a year. Plus, after sex together, she went from being self-conscious due to all of the baggage her ex-husband had laid on her, to a confident young woman way too quickly.
Interested to see that the sister of the main character in this book is the heroine in the next. I don’t believe a sister was mentioned in this one.
This book contains it all from beginning to its end. The characters are interesting and believable. The story was interesting and realistic. This story was excellent to the last word. I read this story in one setting. I like the way this author writes. Cannot wait to read her other books.
This story was so true of many families in todays times. Being a teen is not easy under normal family issues but when there is already stress present it is double difficult. It takes must wisdom and maturity to deal with life throw at them. A lot of prayer is needed
Would be a 5 star except for the amount of sexual content. Other than that it was an excellent book that had me in tears in a couple places, laughing in others.
