Morocco

Morocco is a country of many cultures. It received independence from France in 1956. "Morocco is full of many diverse cultures" (York 12). It has ruled by Africans, Arabs and Europeans. It is therefor full of many tradition. Throughout this mix of cultures, it still has it own strong culture in food and clothing. It is a bridge between two continents.

For Europeans, Morocco is the way to Africa and for moroccons its the way to europe. The country has 31 million people living there. "It has 2 cities with over 1 million and 3 more approaching the figure" (York 23). It is par of the "Magreb". It is south of the Mediterranean and east of the atlantic. It is also varied in landscapes.

In the South there is a desert where it gets hot and dry. During the night though "It is hit by a long breeze of cold air" (York 29). Towards the middle the are three mountain ranges. The High Atlas, Middle Atlas and Low Atlas. It is super hot in the summer and super cold in winter. The is also a small mouteain range in the north called the RIf.

Morocco has a very diverse landscape. Though it doesn't have any oversea land, "there are two spanish enclaves near the Mediterranean, Ceuta and Melilla" (York 30). Morocco has over 3,500 km of land bordering the sea. It also have over 500,000 acres of forest land. Most of them are made up of argan trees. Though i didn't say it earlier Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in Morocco with over 4,000 meters in height.

"Due to its long coastlines and mountain ranges, Morocco has the most varied climate" (York 25).Snow falls all year long in the mountains while some cities stay warm all year. There are two types of wind, chergui and gharbi. Chergui is the dry hot wind from the desert. gharbi is the damp cool wind from the ocean. This is resposible for both rain and drought in Morocco.

Casablanca is Morocco's loargest city.It has a population of over 3.89 million people. It isn't very old but is the industrial capital of morocco. "There is a small medina which provides evidenceof its former existence" (York 25). Its most striking feature is the Hassan II mosque (would recommend seeing). It is a landmark paid mostly by donations up to half a billion US dollars. It includes floor heating and a retractable roof. Casablanca is the city i lve in.

Moroccans have been around for a very long time. The original Moroccans were Berbers. "'Berber' is an ancient Arabic name for the people who live in North Africa" (York 27). The Berbers are mostly tribal people. They have been and are living in small villages and know each other very well. This is the beginning of the long history of Morocco.

"...Phoenicians have spread across the North African coast" (York 29). They have stayed in various parts of present day Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria. After many years of war between phoenicians, Greek and Roman people many ruins have been left. One example of this is Volubilis. Throughout this the Berbers who lived in the mountains were safe as nobody dared climb those mountains. They would not fight in the cold, rocky habitat that Berbers are accustomed to . That is why Berber traditions live on to this day.

After the Romans Islam starts to rise. The Berbers were happy with Islam and "...were willing to embrace Islam" (York 30).The Islamic people continued their journey to Spain and the Shara but many stayed in Morocco. Berbers and Arabs collaberated in an army and in politics. This was a strong alliance and lasted a long time. They will continue until the dynasties appear.

Living in large groups is normal in Morocco. "Only if you cant support a family, you live with your families"(York 45). The families will often invite people to eat with them. Sometimes even to sleep. Its is an act of kindness that multiplies during Ramadan. Which leads to holidays.

Morocco has many holidays. Many people celebrate Ney years "...in the Coastal parts" (York 50). This doesn't come close to the religious holidays in the next paragrph. Ramadan being a bbig part of it. There are a few labor days and special Moroccan historical days. The most importants are the Green march and the Independence day.

Religious holidays are a big deal in Morocco. Ramadan is a month long holidays. "People fast from day to sunset..." (York 55). People are kindest in that month. The other big holiday is Eid Al-Kabir of Eid Al-Adha. Most people eat cow or sheep and have a lot of fun. It is a holiday of family fun and prayers. All thes things make Morocco so special.

Disclosure:
This is a Touristic Manual or Guide as been called, It contains the main touristic components of the Moroccan life so it's something very crucial to have, I bought it when I was in my Tour in Morocco.

Overview:
I didn't put a plot for this because it does not contains any story to tell, It is just a touristic manual divided into five parts, It explores Morocco from the North Region and the Atlantic region, the South and the East, Each part is containing a certain form of Tourism, like environmental tourism in the East, Adventurous Tourism in the South of Sahara and the climbing of the Atlas high mountains in the center region, In fact the Book took Morocco as a geographic part which connects African culture with Arabic culture, in fact the whole country is a mixture of Cultures so there no wonder if the tourist come across something mixed.

Positive and Negative Aspects:
Reading this book in manner of a Touristic one, is something weird, In fact the local population take no attention for the Tourist people, Personally tourists became to be a normal part in the Moroccan life, but concerning the main aspects of the book, I would say that the book contains phrases that can be used as keys to express the one's need in a certain situations, Besides it contains all the prices of everything that could be bought during the Journey from one place to the other. Besides it contains even the addresses of most precious hotels and their number, classifications, and all the services needed during the Touristic journey. I would rather say that the book is updated from year to year.

My Personal Reaction:
Personally I would say that having this book is something that could be crucial to have, I really enjoy the information inside it, and I am ready to give it to anyone who needs it. All the information are quite right. Besides the book would help to overcome all the communication obstacles with the local population. Finally I would recommend people to come in touch with the population and not rely on the book completely. Because doing so would help you to be familiar with that country.

Recommendations:
This book is recommended to all the people who are planing to make a trip to Morocco, to discover the cultural and the natural side. The book is all fruitful, The book is available in English and French in addition to some some versions of Spanish and Portuguese.

The interesting novel”Morocco” is written by the renowned author, Paula Hardy. The novel travels through the cities of the traditional, religious countries , exploring cultures and ideas. Morocco is a country located in North Africa and fought to receive independence in 1956 from the french. It was controlled by the spanish and french for a while of time and revolts emerged. Than, the allies tried to break down the revolts and kidnapped the king to Madagascar as a way to scare the population. The moroccans had a special relationship with the king and broke down the boundaries with bigger revolts never seen before. ”If they attack us, we will eat them”.(Hassan 2) As a conclusion, the citizens were loyal to their master and helped in difficult times.

The novel “Morocco” is a nonfiction due to the fact of its a country that still exists now a day. It uses major leaders that are known worldwide and known revolts made by ancient survivors. The topic is really interesting and most readers that are moroccan would love to hear about the story of their ancestors. The story is a combination of sadness and love to a king and a nation. It shows the importance of leaving your soul to you country and to be proud. I loved reading about the importance of the king to it’s nation and how he was like a father to all. The most interesting part was touching because it showed the loyalty of the moroccans to their king even if he was absent and miles away. The author, Paula Hardy wrote this book to bring alive the memories that were unearthed for years. “He who has nothing to die for, has nothing to live for”.( Moroccan citizen) Thus, “Morocco” is an amazing nonfiction story which explores through memories graved in history of a traditional country.

“Morocco” by Paula Hardy is recommended to all history lovers. I would recommend this book mostly to Moroccans because they will learn a lot about the dynasties and their ancestors. “The enemies of my enemies, are my friends”.(Arabian writer) This book may even help for a research die to the amazing writing and the rich descriptions of the people and culture. This book is mainly for non-fiction lovers and the people that are interested in world’s history and affaire. The novel is really interesting and creates dramatic scenes within the reader’s mind. It also explores different settings and numerous adventures. Last but not least, “Morocco is an amazing novel about the rich, cultural country.

I love the Lonely planet series and this helped us a great deal on our travels through Morocco. A wonderful country I would love to go back to. Fascinating food, culture and I love the architecture there. The only place so far I've encountered a French/Arabic/English Computer Keyboard.
