Easily Cobb's weakest effort. The final short piece 'Fishfriend' is the only one of the three stories that feels alive with anything. The first piece 'The Hollow Mirror' is so short that it doesn't have a chance to go anywhere. The heart of the book, 'Adapting Walls' is full of cold architectural forms, and the presence of a computer in its creation is impossible to ignore. Vectors stretch across large panels, feeling more like space-filler than creative decision. Moments of condensed action feel sloppy, movement doesn't quite add up, characters are difficult to differentiate, the rhythm is lost. Despite this, Cobb is still one of the most exciting folks making comics right now and I look forward to whatever he does next.
Charming abstract narratives often built around architectural oddities, color-coded by story, beautifully designed. Fans of J.G. Ballard should find plenty to like here. 3.5 stars.
