It mainly focuses on the process of writing manga and not much else. The title is misleading—don’t expect romance. The main character is either running at sonic speed or sleeping; either intense or.. snoring. Not really any character development or progress with relationships between characters. It was just kind of boring. Illustration wasn’t bad, but the story fell flat.

Volume 1: This is kind of funny. She's annoying, though.
Volume 2: Yep, she's definitely annoying. Kind of a Too Stupid to Live heroine.
Volume 3: MAKE HER GO AWAAAAAY!!!!

This was light but fun. Suzu Sakura is a manga creator with a knack for missing deadlines. She procrastinates, naps when she should be working, and was even 24 hours late for a meeting once--she didn't accidentally get the date wrong; she was just really late. But her new editor, Osamu Hasegawa, has quite the temper, and is a total hottie as well. Will he be able to keep her in line? And is romance a possibility?

One of the enjoyable aspects of this book for me was the autobiographical touches. Sakurai has clearly based Sakura on herself, and has the grace to see the humor in her own shortcomings. Between the occasional four panel autobiography strips that occur every so often, as well as the comments from her real life editors that kick off most chapters, I was able to get a pretty good sense of how much of the story is reality based.

There are also plenty of inside jokes for those familiar with manga and anime. I spotted references to Osamu Tezuka, Ryo Ikeda, and Fist of the North Star among others.

Ultimately, this is pretty much what the title says it is. It was fun to read but, bulk aside, not very substantial. There's not a whole lot of plot or story, but I did enjoy spending time with the characters. A pretty average manga all around. I don't know that I’d recommend it to everybody, but if you're looking for something light and refreshing this wouldn't be a bad choice.

Aufmachung

The title is a pretty accurate summation. Stupid applies to the procrastinating, boy-crazy main character, the chapter plots and the slapstick humor. But the stupid energy and enthusiasm of the story are charming enough to carry the day.

The book is set behind the scenes of a manga publisher and features a manga creator named Sakura who has a crush on her editor. The creator and real-life editors repeatedly stress throughout the book that much of the details come from real life, but don't expect the industry insights of the much better Bakuman, Volume 1: Dreams and Reality.

One big drawback to the comedy is that a good case could be made that Sakura's behavior toward her editor and other industry professionals constitutes sexual harassment.

If you read this for what the author meant it to be, an intentionally over the top look at creating manga with intentionally exaggerated characters, I believe it was a success. If you're looking for a complete narrative with true character development, or dare I say a deeply satisfying conclusion, you'll probably be disappointed. But I enjoyed it and appreciated how well the author was able to laugh at herself. I recommend it if you're up for behind the scenes vignettes with humor and gorgeously drawn characters.

This is more about the difficulties of creating manga than about a love story (though I suppose there is some of that). So if your looking for a romance, move on. If you like comedy, learning about the creation and distribution of manga, with a touch (and I mean a small touch) of romance, pick up this series.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a rom-com and it wasn't. I enjoyed learning more about the manga industry but the main character is hella annoying and crying every other page. I wish they would have added the actual romance more into it and it would have been much better.

Very deceiving title. No love and no comedy. I didn’t laugh at all. I learned a bit about the manga industry. Didn’t care for any of the characters and the story line was lacking. The art was nice though!

This book is lighthearted, and a quick and easy read if you want to get away from your average book. I wanted the main character to not always be boy-crazy, but instead become somewhat normal, so that the editor could actually fall for her. The end was satisfying and unsatisfying because the main characters didn't start dating, but they didn't date, so that was kind of a bummer. Also, the ending to me didn't quite match the story line, but hey, unpopular opinion.

Volume/Series Review: 5/5
I got this in the mail yesterday and read it the first chance I got! It took a bit longer than normal because it's 3 volumes in 1 and it's packed with information. But I enjoyed every page.

First of all, Hasegawa and the other guys are so freaking hot, and the whole book is full of bishies. But that is really not the only reason I like it … the entire story the manga publishing world is so interesting! I learned a lot, and laughed a lot. From the manga-ka, to the editor, to the directors, to the designers, to the sales team, to the printers, to the bookstores … it's a huge process!

The funniest part is that it's practically an autobiography so even the unbelievable things are true.

I love manga so much but this almost made me feel guilty because they all have to work SO hard! Through the night, overtime … even when they are on schedule they pretty much never get breaks.

If you are looking for romance, this book pretty much has nil. It makes fun of romance and the mangaka is outrageously funny to her editor.

Overall, totally recommended for any manga fan.

Any complete collection of shojo series like this are pretty much instant buys for me. I like getting a binge-worthy dose of shojo in one go. And usually they're pretty good.
Sakura is a mangaka, and her editor has just changed to Hasegawa, who's hot but also strict and rather disinterested in her antics. We get to follow Sakura as she struggles to meet deadlines and falls asleep at all hours and runs off to do crazy things when she should be working. She's very dramatic and puts on personalities and odd acts to be purposely overly dramatic. She gets an assistant for the first time, and we all see her experience moments of intense, inspired work. And then we also get to see Hasegawa check in with her fully knowing that she's going to be passed out and behind in work.
I thought this was going to be more of a romance, but instead it's more of a tell-all on being a mangaka. We follow the process of making a manga more than we follow any romance, as a lot of this is taken from Syusyusyu's personal experience, of course with some dramatization and fictionalizing.
Some of her antics were just ridiculous, but I did like seeing Hasegawa grow to support her and believe in her manga. I also liked Shimada, her assistant. He was fun, and was a very good fit for Sakura.
While this was a fun series to read, I wish there had been more romance. This might be different had I gone into the series with different expectations, but I thought there was actually going to be a romance, and there were a couple hints regarding Sakura and Hasegawa, but it never went anywhere. Nothing even happened regarding chemistry or flirting or any kind of romance. It was disappointing to me.
Aside from that, though, this was a fun series to read. I liked Sakura's character for the most part.

As a comedy, this sometimes succeeded. As a romance, it failed horribly.

What attracted me to this was the really good art, and the promise of a lighthearted romcom with just a splash of drama sprinkled throughout. What it ended up being was a bit of a well drawn mess. Hasegawa was a great character, the side characters were funny, the bits where we learn a bit about the publishing business were pretty good too. The problem was the main character, Suzu Sakura. She's really annoying, and the "love" plot is so forced. She isn't annoying because of missing deadlines or being late to meetings. That's part of what's supposed to make it a comedy, and succeeds at it up to a point. The reason she's annoying is because she latches on to Hasegawa as a romantic partner for no reason. Everyone around them keeps insisting that he actually is in love with her, despite him saying he's not and for there being no reason for him to be. Why? Because he said he loves her manga, and loving her manga automatically translates into loving her. Um, what? There are plenty of authors whose books I would say I love, but that doesn't mean I want to start a romantic relationship with them. It's ridiculous! The ending doesn't even show them getting together as a couple. It's like the author knew they couldn't because there's no way two people like Hasegawa and Suzu would ever end up together. There was not a single moment in the whole book that made me think that maybe he did actually like her. Not one. The art was literally the best thing about the whole book.

If you're hoping for a cute romance, don't pick this up.

The title is super misleading, since, SPOILER ALERT....

Suzu and Hasegawa DO NOT become a couple. Nothing blooms between this odd couple, and there isn't so much as a kiss. It was kinda funny and quirky, but after awhile you realize there is no love in "Stupid Love Comedy." The title should just be "Stupid Comedy", bc that's all it offered.

I was so hoping for a quick, cute wholesome romance, and this disappointed me thoroughly. So if that's what you wanted as well, don't bother with it.

It’s a pretty lazy manga. There’s no creativity in the idea, the author literally just talks about the process they went through to make the book, but THROUGH the character. It’s cheap, to be honest.

This was a fun and quirky read, although I feel like it dropped off in the middle of a plot instead of tying up and finishing properly. There's a beginning, and a middle, but no end which is frustrating. I was expecting some kind of romance from this manga (because of the title) and as I got further and further into it, I was hoping Sakura and Hasegawa wouldn't end up together because they have zero chemistry. Sakura's assistant is the real romantic interest in this and you can't convince me otherwise, which is also why I'm disappointed it just kind of ended instead of anything being resolved in terms of relationships or even character development.

While the characters are quirky and easy to love, they're completely static, which is annoying. Sakura doesn't improve at all in projecting her feelings onto Hasegawa, doesn't get better at meeting her deadlines, doesn't stop being any less annoying than she is. Hawegawa doesn't cave (which is fine because I would've been furious if he'd been guilted into a relationship with Sakura without there being any real relationship or feelings), but he also doesn't develop. He's always mean and cold, and while he cares about her as a creator, his position and opinion of her never changes. I was expecting there to be some kind of turning point, and there almost was one, but then it fell short and we found ourselves back at the beginning. It's just frustrating that nothing ever went anywhere with the characters.

I loved the fact that most of what happens in the story actually did happen with the author and her editors. It made the concept of this manga more real and refreshing because it was basically creative nonfiction. But with that said, I think they took it a little too literally and it kept this from being a full-fledged story.

This book takes place in Japan, most likely around spring. It runs for a timespan of about a couple months. The main conflict is our main character, Suzu Sakura, missing her deadlines and falling in love with seemingly every male main/side character. More about Suzu, she's very airheaded, but can make a wonderful manga if she tries. This story is not a very serious one, so do be wary if you were looking for something more, filling, I guess you could say.

My favorite line in the story is that Sakura "...once was a whole 24 hours late for a deadline". It was really funny to know that she didn't just struggle with deadlines, she was horrible at keeping them, until her new editor came, somewhat. It truly showed me how funny this book was, and helped me delve further into the book by giving me a tidbit of how this story was going to pan out.

I enjoyed this book, but it most certainly had flaws, thus earning it a four star from me. It was about exactly what you would expect from your stereotypical love comedy, since it was funny and lighthearted, but was a little bit too soft on the building of relationships between the characters. It was a snack of a read, short and unfilling in a way, since it contained less big plot points, and more flowed between topics instead. The shortness and unsatiated feeling I got out of reading this book are my gripes, but all in all, pretty good story with a few kinks.

Finally, I might or might not recommend this to a friend, based on specific story factors. If my friend, for example, was a lover of romance novels that are a bit short, so they can be read in one sitting, then I would 100% recommend them this book. However, if they were into a more convoluted story with a lot of character development, and wasn't too into either the comedy or romance genres, I wouldn't recommend this book to them in the slightest. So, in general, I wouldn't recommend this to most of my friends, besides the ones in that niche of books.

Story 1,6/5
Emotionen 1,0/5
Charaktere 1,0/5
Zeichenstil 3,0/5
Lesegefühl 1,0/5
Gesamt 1,0/5

REVIEW IN PROCESS. (I can't focus to write this well enough... ugh)

Stupid Love Comedy was an enjoyable read, and one that offered some insight into the production of manga, a subject that as a manga reader, I found very interesting. However, there is little depth.

Syusyusyu has collected and mixed her experiences as a mangaka, those of her assistants, and those of other mangakas in the amusing story of Suzu Sakura. Suzu does not have the first best meeting with her new editor Hasegawa. Neither mangaka or editor are at their best spots in life, and their personalities certainly clash. Suzu cannot follow deadlines, ignores phone calls, and disregards personal hygiene and style while working. Hasegawa has been shift from one publisher to another and has a controlled, mean-hearted personality.

Well, I can't fault the creators for false advertising. This really was a stupid love comedy. When I picked this book up, I thought it would be charming but I was wrong. The main character is annoying. She is constantly freaking out and completely delusional over the relationships she has with her male co-workers. BTW - all of the her male co-workers are hot and miraculously think she is cute in one form or another. I thought that this story would go somewhere but it was highly repetitive with the same cycle. This is a book that you can safely pass on. In truth, the only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the title perfectly described the entire book. I feel like I failed myself because I was warned but didn't listen.

This would have gotten a higher rating but it didnt feel finished. I also didnt feel the romance either. It felt like the author felt she needed a romance so forced one. we were being told about the love but not shown anything other then girl finds boy attractive and they make a good team so they are in love. There is also no character development. At all. The main character may have even become worse haha. But there were still moments that made me laugh and I enjoyed my time reading it for the look into the manga creating process.

I really did not like this manga. I’ve read plenty of manga that had annoying heroines but they usually had a redeeming quality or I was just able to overlook them. I could not do that with this heroine. Suzu annoyed me to no end. I didn’t really care for the story either. I thought it would a lot cuter and funnier than it is but it just wasn’t for me. I’ve never skimmed a manga to the degree I was skimming this one.

Title is misleading. She has a thing for him but there is no romance at all it's basically him just screaming at her to focus on her work 24/7 and that's it. As you keep on reading you hope they at least give you something but even in the bonus stories it's just him telling her to stay away from him and do her job. Art is great but story wise NOT AT ALL A ROMANCE

"I didn't hate it" is the nicest thing I can say about this manga. The title is very appropriate, it is a stupid love comedy. The plot is simply "making manga is hard," the characters don't have depth and the there's no development to speak of. The ending falls entirely flat. I just finished and wondered, "what was the point of this?" I have no answers.

I love the art, and the story was cute, but it was more about being a mangaka than anything. It was nice to get to know more about the industry, but the ending was kind of underwhelming after all the lead up
