Hadley Hayes has been in love with her brother’s best friend for as long as she can remember. Now at thirty-one, she’s determined to make Sam see her as more than just the little girl who used to follow him around the family farm. Aware of his fear of commitment, she’s ready to show him that happily ever after isn’t just meant for the fairy tales.
Sam Bennett, Red Maple Falls fire chief and notorious bachelor, swore he’d never make a pass at any of his best friend’s sisters, but when Hadley confesses her feelings, he can no longer deny their chemistry. Trying to hold on to a promise he made when he was only fifteen becomes increasingly hard as their relationship intensifies.
A tragic turn of events sends Sam spiraling and reminds him that he’s not the hero who everyone sees—he’s the kid from the wrong side of the tracks who never really belonged. Determined to prove Sam’s worth, Hadley refuses to give up on him, but will her love be enough to pull him from the ashes or will their happily ever after go down in flames?

Long bio:
Theresa Paolo lives in Long Island, NY with her fiancé and their fish. She writes steamy small-town romances with sassy heroines, sexy heroes and feisty townspeople. When she's not writing, she's reading, brewery hopping, or daydreaming. She loves coffee, all things Christmas and fall, and making lists.
Simple. Cute. Brothers best friend/friends-to-lovers. I enjoyed the story for what it was and liked Red Maple Falls pretty well. I read this based off a Bookbub promotion email and it was a charming, romantic escape for an afternoon.
I can only handle so much resistance when the h has been in love with H for years but yet he continuous to push her away. Especially when it is done in such a nasty way so repeatedly.
The cringeworthy paw print engagement ring knocked off half a star. Sorry but too much for me!

Its the story I have been waiting for!! I fell in love with Hadley when we was casually mentioned in another book and I remember thinking "I really hope she gets her own book!" Thankfully Theresa read my mind from hours away and it was well worth the wait. Hadley was my favorite character and hands down my favorite book in the series. I cannot wait to read about Daisy :) I spent most of the book yelling, rolling my eyes, and hoping that everything would just be ok. Thanks Theresa for another book that I was able to lose myself in <3
Hadley and Sam knew each other since they were kids. No wonder this book was very fast paced. I mean really how much more could these two learn about each other? Well that's where the book becomes a gem! These two don't know each other is determined, persistent, and both love the Hayes family. Both are always worried about everyone else and taking little time out to make themselves complete.
This book was so frickin' cute! I've been waiting for Sam and Hadley since book one and it did not disappoint. Theresa has done it yet again, and I can't wait to sit down with the Hayes family every time another book is out :D
As averyone i was waiting for this book since book one. It was perfect finally Hadley admit what she feel for Sam, her brother's best friend, but does he feel the same? Figured it out reading this amazing book!!! I can't wait for the next boox... Daisy your next
Hung Up on Hadley by Theresa Paola is another entry in the Maple Falls series of contemporary romances. Hadley is the younger sister of Matt, the town police chief and the most over-protective mane that ever lived. She is 31 years old and has been in love with Sam, the fire chief and Matt's best friend for 20 years. She has never told him, or anyone, how she feels, although nearly everyone else has figured it out...not Matt or Sam. Sam is a one-night-only type of guy. He believes that he is innately a bad guy, just like his father, who would ultimately hurt any woman with who he became involved. Finally, Kate, Hadley's older sister convinced her to tell Sam, let the chips fall where they may. One night she acts on that advice and, boom! Sam stops speaking to her, stops coming around her parents' house...basically freezes her out. He is drawn to her and cannot resist so he stays away, mostly. Finally they get together but that is not the end of the drama.
Hadley and Sam have appeared in earlier iterations of the Maple Falls series. They are likeable people, both old enough to have developed their own distinct personalities. Hadley is a farmer and animal lover and nothing will ever change her. She is typically dirty and often has specks of hay in her hair. Sam spends his time trying to be a good person: he helps anyone in the community who needs, gutters cleaned, snow shoveled, plumbing done. He is stubborn but resilient. There are many characters that live in Maple Falls, not the least of which is Hadley's grandmother, Betty, a born matchmaker, who curiously have never plied her skills on Sam and Hadley.
Krista Nicely was a good reader who has read other Maple Falls books. She does a nice job of making it clear who is speaking without resorting to odd voices. This is the ideal book to listen to, light and fun, serious, but positive, with a nice happily-ever-after ending. I recommend it in whichever form: audio or print.
I received a free copy of the audio book from the author. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.
Red Maple Falls is more than a fictional small-town it's a community!
I love this series by Theresa Paolo! I don't know how she does it, but she makes the setting of Red Maple Falls seem like a real place. Her words create a beautiful watercolor picture in my mind of what this fictional place looks like. As a visual learner ( and reader!), I often wish author's included maps of their worlds. However, Teresa's world of Red Maple Falls is as real to me as my own hometown! No map is needed! If I could find a small-town like the fictional Red Maple Falls, I would move there immediately! While it might be uncomfortable to have everyone up in my business, I long for the comfort of a caring community. A place where everyone is treated like family, and people reach out to help one another. I think the sense of peace and community Theresa Paolo creates, the emphasis on neighborly and family love, and the laughter and tears shared by her fabulous characters are what draw me to the Red Maple e Falls series. I have just finished book five, Hung up on Hadley, and have no intention of stopping until I have read the entire series!
As I said before, all of the characters in this series are remarkable, but the friends to lovers' story of the main characters in this novel, Hadley and Sam, is both sweet and spicy, not to mention very well told! By the time you get to this book (if you are reading the books in order written), you have had some experience with Hadley and Sam from the previous stories. Through Theresa's beautifully creative storytelling, Hadley and Sam's final transformation to soulmates evolves as if you were there. It is as heartwarming as a Hallmark movie presentation!
Grab Hung up on Hadley by Theresa Paolo and feel what it is like to truly love!
I got the audiobook for free in a Newsletter and I am glad that I didn't have to pay for this. I know it is unfair to rate this book based on the fact that it is simply not my taste, but ARGH!! I can't help it! I really do hate heroines that save themselves for the womanizer hero, I mean, c'mon!!! Girl, just show some dignity and self-respect, please! For the sake of all of us women! Hadley is 31!! That's right, THIRTY-ONE! However, she acts like a pathetic teenager, ridiculously immature, because she's been in love with the womanizer since she was essentially a kid! She even kept a photo of him in her nightstand drawer like a girl who keeps a poster of Justin Bieber or whatever her teen crush is. I struggled to finish listening to this because every minute Hadley started talking about her feelings for Sam my eyes would roll and some vomit would even come to my mouth but I kept going, hoping she would turn the game on him and maybe save her pathetic self like an actual adult, but nope! That didn't happen. So, I'm sorry, this book is not for me but I won't give it a lower rate because if you're into low self-esteem heroines chasing a womanizer guy like a lap dog you'll definitely enjoy this. I will also not give it a lower rate because, for a womanizer, I appreciated the fact that Sam didn't go back to his old ways after he decided to leave Hadley alone. And I also loved Hadley's grandmother. She was really a character.
Narrator does a good job. Not a perfect fit for the characters, but she fits the tone of the story.
I really enjoy the feel of this series; Red Maple Falls is a nice place to read about. Hadley and Sam have a really great connection; some majorly hot passion! Hadley was awesome, but I wasn’t a fan of her always having to be the one to put herself out there for Ben. I wasn’t a fan of Ben sleeping with most of the ladies in town and now working his way through the ones on the edge of town, but I was hoping he’d redeem himself. Unfortunately, I felt he was a baby most of the time and didn’t treat Hadley well. He doesn’t think he’s good enough for her, so he acts like a jerk at times. She’s been in love with him for years; since she was like 7 or something, and has watched him sleep around. It’s so sad! I really felt for Hadley, but girl should’ve spoken up way sooner. She deserved way better. I’m going to look past my dislike of Sam, and go with a 4 rating. The story is entertaining and the Hayes family dynamic is lots of fun! Next up is Daisy’s book, which I’m already not a fan of her so I hope she isn’t as selfish as she seems in the rest of the series. Still looking forward to reading it though! This is a fun series.
This is the fourth book of the series and can be read as a standalone. It does help with character development if you read the others, but the author does a good job regardless. This is Hadley and Sam’s story.
Hadley is one of the Hayes siblings and the only one who still works full time on the family farm and fosters dogs. She has always been more of a tomboy. Now she is watching all of her siblings get attached and starts daydreaming of the only man she has ever loved...too bad he is off limits.
Sam is the fire chief of Red Maple Falls. His upbringing was rough, but he turned his life around with the help of his best friend Matt and his family. He is not one to settle down because he doesn’t feel he is worthy or capable of doing that because of his past, but recently those thought are starting to change.
Hadley and Sam have always been there for each other, especially Sam for her. He made a pact a long time ago with Matt that his sisters were off limits, but Hadley is having none of that. This story takes us along their journey of discovering the love that they have always had for each other.
This was a smoothly written story that had me from the first chapter. The secondary characters are well written too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When you are in love with your brothers best friend, should you tell him? Hadley had bern friends with Dan forever and loved him just as long. Sam sees her as a sister, but Hadley thinks it’s time to let him know how she feels. Now what will happen? He can either return her love or push her away? Will it be worth the risk? And what will her brother Matt think? This friends to lovers story has all the things I love in a book. It has family dynamics, sneaking around and passion in high doses! It’s fun and flirty, frustrating and exhilarating. Hadley is someone I can easily relate to. She knows who she loves and isn’t afraid to let him know. Sam is tough, as he needs some self confidence boosting, but well worth the work! And all the family appearances and getting see how all their relationships have progressed is just a bonus! I love this series! Are we going to get to meet Daisy next?
Krista Nicely keeps bringing this town to life. From Matt and Shea to Hadley and Sam she gives us consistency in voices and that home town feeling. She is this family and keeps it entertaining!
Sam and Hadley have been circling around each other for years. She's always had a crush on him but he's always viewed her as off-limits. What will happen when Hadley finally confesses her love for him?
The first chapter of this book seriously grabbed me right away. I absolutely needed to know how that scene ended immediately. Of course, I had to wait until practically the end of the book to find out! I enjoyed reading about both Hadley and Sam. I loved both of them. Hadley rescues dogs and Sam is the fire chief. They are a match made in heaven. I will say that I got a little frustrated with both of them with their back and forth. I just wanted them to be together. Overall, this book was really enjoyable though!
Krista Nicely did a great job on the narration. Again, I found that some of the narration had some awkward pauses, but overall enjoyable!
*I received a copy of this audiobook from Audiobook Obsession in exchange for an honest review*
I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. If you have read any of the Maple Falls Series, you will totally enjoy this story. This has to do with Hadley Hayes & Sam Bennett. Sam and Hadley's brother Matt have been friends for a very long time and have been more like brothers then just friends. She has been brought into family gatherings & treated as one of their own. Hadley has had a crush on Sam forever but has never told him. They have been good friends and buddies, and when she needs help, he step up and does it. But not more of her brother's and sisters are finding their better halves and getting married and she finally admits that she likes/loves him but he freaks out and is afraid he can't be the man she needs because his father up and left his mom when she was a pregnant teenager, and he made a promise to Matt not to touch any of his sisters. But they will find a way to get what each of them needs, because she believes in him. Loved it. HEA.

DNF/Skim The first chapter starts with Sam fighting a fire where he’s injured. Chapter 2 starts 5 months earlier, and we SLOWLY work our way back up to the present. (which takes to 80%) I couldn’t get through this without skimming huge sections. Sam is the town manwhore and fire chief. Hadley is his BFF’s little sister and doormat who's loved him forever.
It takes about 40% before they even kiss, and then there’s TONS of her kissing his ass and him kissing her and pushing away. Lots and LOTS of pages are filled with secondary character fluff. Sam hanging out with his fellow firemen, and H hanging with her family… nothing happening with the MC’s.
Bottom Line- I found this boring AF. Too much going on with other people and no progression of relationship. Other than the 3 months they were together in secret they never had a relationship, and poof after reconciling he proposes with a dog paw ring because she had them on her underwear the first time he got in her pants.
Sam is the town man whore who walks away from Hadley when she confesses her love for him and he then ignores her for weeks. They have a couple kissing sessions where he pushes her away each time. When Sam finally relents to sleeping with Hadley, she even continues to beg him during their sexual encounter. The good times don’t last long because, at the first bit of trouble, he breaks up with her all under the classic “I’m no good for you, I don’t want to hurt you” trope. Blah, blah. Sam then goes through a rough patch in his professional life and Hadley, being the glutton for punishment/doormat she is, tries to save him. Even though he has made it abundantly clear in actions and words that he does not want to see her. She even comes over TO CLEAN HIS HOUSE. Countless times, he says mean and cruel things to her, but she keep coming back for more. I almost stopped reading many, many times in this book. I can’t stand weak heroines who feel the need to “save” men. So frustrating.
This is a friends to lover book and while it is the 5th book in the series, it is standalone although other people from prior books make appearances. Hadley has loved Sam, the fire chief for forever but they are friends and Sam doesn’t think he is good enough for her and also doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Can she get past his barriers (including he is her brother’s best friend and Matt has warned him away from her)?
Overall, I liked the characters. I felt bad for Sam because he had such a bad perception of his worth. Hadley was sweet and I liked glimpses at prior characters. A bit too much push and pull with the couple but I enjoyed the book overall.
The audiobook was good with the same narrator as other books. As usual, given there are dual povs, i wish there was both a male and female narrator.
Lord have mercy I would have dropped Sam like a sack of potatoes. Hadley has loved this man for 20 plus years only to recently confess her love. After a month of him “denying” what he felt all along they get consumed in this lust filled journey that has them both convinced is love. Time and time again he’s awful to her and constantly pushes her away. She gets upset naturally only to forgive him with the simple sorry he provided. Hadley should’ve been named doormat. Girl make him work its no wonder he never noticed her. The doormat and the jerk get a happy ending of course but I couldn’t relate to a woman who willing let a man walk all over her even if he is a tortured soul with a crappy childhood. That can only be your excuse for so long.
I'd been waiting to get to Hadley and Sam's story for 4 whole books and it certainly didn't disappoint. Hadley and Sam have known each other for 20 years, most of which she's been secretly in love with him. It seems that Sam has been in love with her too, his brain just didn't realize it. The chemistry between these two is red hot. Sam is so afraid of how his best friend, and Hadley's older brother, Matt will react but he can't keep his hands off her whenever they're close. Tragedy strikes and Sam pulls away from everyone. Thankfully Hadley is strong and refuses to let Sam push her out of his life. Watching Sam move past his demons and into his future was wonderful. This story certainly lived up to all the expectations I've had since book 1!
This is the only book I've read in the series and I got it as a free ebook. I'm really not a fan of stories where the heroine has been in love with the hero for years (twenty in this case) and has never moved on or spoken up. Not only do I think romantic love shouldn't be attached to kids (she was apparently 7 when it started) but it just makes the heroine look like a complete doormat. Hadley was basically waiting around until Sam took his head out his ass.
The plot was predictable, sweet and simple. There wasn't a huge amount of depth in Hadley except for her love for Sam. She apparently worked on a farm but the only sign of that was her having hay in her hair and delivering eggs to someone.
Title: Hung Up on Hadley Author: Theresa Paolo Format: Audio Narrator: Krista Nicely Genre: Romance, contemporary, small town, firefighter, brothers best friend/best friend’s sister Standalone: yes Part of a Series: book 4 in the Red Maple Falls series POV: Sam and Hadley Steam Level: warm 4/5
Hung Up on Hadley was the most emotional book that I’ve read so far in this series. Both sweet and frustrating, Hadley and San have to jump through many hoops to find their HEA, both internal and external I also liked how this story felt a little more complete than previous books in this series.
I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Sam's father left when he was young, which left him with feelings, he wasn't good enough for anyone. So no attachments, only one night stands, no-one gets hurt. Hadley has always loved Sam , they were childhood friends, they did everything together until the day she told him she loved him. Sam had demons that he was battling inside. How could anyone love him? He would never be good enough for anyone. He became withdrawn, and ignores her. She isn't going to give up on him easily. Can she convince him, she's the one woman that he needs? i enjoyed this second chance romance. Krista Nicely portrayed the characters with love and emotion. I enjoyed listening to this story. 🎧audiobookobsessionreview🎧
I'm guessing this one came via Chirp Freebie Friday. I don't think this is one I'd be looking for otherwise. 😂
Hadley has been in love with firefighter Sam since she was a kid. He only sees her as a friend, practically family since he's unofficially part of her family as her brother's best friend. He's a self proclaimed manwhore who doesn't ever see himself settling down. Despite the many, many notches on his bedpost, Hadley sees the good in him. Can he see the good in himself?
This was too cheesy for me. The jokes were just wow. At one point, the two MCs were going to get intimate and she made a joke about his "fire hose" and I was toast. It's like a bad Hallmark movie with some incredibly awkward spice.
I listened to the audio through Bookfunnel and the narrator did a good job.
I enjoyed listening these two and their back and forth conversations they had. Sam sexy hot firefighter swoon. I found this story to be cute, sweet and funny. Loved how these two thought they dodged the interfering Grandma who is always cornering her Grandkids and their significant others into giving her great grandbabies to learn that she has been pushing them together for most their life. This can be read as a standalone but you do get a glimpse into the other siblings and their significant others.
Found it difficult to like Sam — yeah yeah he had a tough childhood. But he’s been best friends with Hadley since they were kids. When they’re in their 30s and she admits she’s in love with him, he just disappears and avoids her for over a month?! WTF? Hadley was such a pushover — she needed to grow a backbone and stop being a doormat for Sam and taking all his nastiness. Overall it wasn’t a bad story, just too many annoying moments.
It is rare for me to stop reading a book, but I had to on this one. The use of the "f" word on page after page was so uncalled for. Then there were grammatical errors. Why do some romance authors think saying the same thing - just in a different way - makes a book worth reading??? The first couple of pages were good, but downhill from there. Just finally decided - NO MORE.
A nice quick steamy romance read. I listened on audiobook. The worldbuilding and character building is done well. I could feel Hadley's emotions so well. Sam and all his feels were hard for me to understand even with them right in front of me. I guess it's because I'm a "Hadley". All the intermingling with Hadley's family and Sam sometimes was so comical to hear. After all, Sam grew up around the family so he was already family.
Hadley has loved Sam for over 20 years. She finally works up the nerve to tell him and their Ricky start begins. Nosy overprotective brother Matt almost ruins everything, but all good things work out with a little help along the way from Grandma Betty.
