Having just finished Alpha’s Claim which I wrongly assumed was a trilogy (well I suppose it is but it isn’t, the ending was totally unsatisfactory) I went looking for more Shepherd and Claire.

3.5 to 4*

I only started this prelude because I wanted to catch up with them but now I’m hooked. Again.
Brenya is a grunt known as unit 17c she’s always lived in the Beta Sector and works on the exterior wall of Bernard Dome. An accident followed by a long stay in decontamination and then a total lack of appetite has forced her body off the chemical restraints. Unbelievably she’s an Omega and she’s just been found by her Alpha.
I say unbelievably because Omegas were thought to be extinct.

This story mirrors Shepherd and Claire’s in so many ways but Bernard Dome is different from Thólos in that it seems far more regimented and controlled.

It’s straight onto Stolen for me.

This is a brief intro into a new place - Bernard Dome - and a new couple - Jacques and Brenya.

While the dome environment and the nature of the citizens are directly parallel to Claire and Shephard's world, in its isolation, this dystopian society has developed a bit differently. It seems to be even more regimented and its people have even less freedom. Omegas were thought to be extinct.

Brenya faces much the same situation as Claire did, being claimed against her wishes by a raging Alpha in the face of an unexpected estrous cycle, but she is not Claire and her reactions are her own.

Jacques is the leader of Bernard Dome and very much a part of the uber-spoiled, elite class - and I cannot wait for him to come face-to-face with Shephard. In fact, I can't wait period! So excited to read the next book!

This was a short quick read that I liked. This was my first time reading this author and I have had this book for awhile. Brenya, is a beta worker he works on keeping the dome over the Settlement in one piece. When she is sent to repair a crack, she falls and is entangled in her safety line and dislocating her shoulder and smashing her face and her bio suit face plate. The outside air comes in and she inhales the forbidden air. Brenya loses her job and is ostracized she is lost and out of control because she has no job, no purpose. This is a dark, dystopian novella that I liked and will be reading the next book in this new series to me. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Title: Absolute Power
Author: Addison Cain
Series: Alpha's Control #0.5
Genre: science-fiction, dystopia
Themes: bonded/fated
Heat: 3/5
Rating: 3/5

I struggled with my rating and review for this one, and it's the only book (so far) I've felt the need to go back to to change my rating. Here's why.

The book itself was spectacular. It introduced new characters in Cain's Omegaverse seamlessly, and made me entirely desperate to read on and indulge in the next book.

However, it gets a 3* rating from me because it's a little misleading. It isn't a prequel. It's the first few chapters of the full first book of the series, Stolen. So, to me (an avid Addison Cain fan), I ended up feeling disappointed and like this was a bit of a waste of time. However, for someone who isn't sure if this series is for them, it'll be great. Just start from book one of the first series.

What Happened?

I am so happy to see Claire and Shepard again, but what happened to the characters in the first story? Now I am dying because two stories are hanging in the wind! Agh !

This just has me desperate to read the whole story, and to catch up with Claire and Shepherd. We're pretty much wham bam and straight into the story. If you haven't read the Alpha's Claim books then you will probably find this a little confusing - especially since it is just a 'taster' of the series to come.

I really liked Brenya and felt her fear, confusion and pain. Despite her total confusion, and understandable fear, you can already see how strong a character she will be from her defence of Annette. Whilst I want Jacques to be that hard, dominating man (because if we didn't want a dark and challenging read we wouldn't be reading this book!) I look forward to how Brenya will challenge and soften him to her cause.

Bernard Dome has a very different feel to it and I'm wondering how this will affect what happens. I need the rest of the story NOW!!!!

Daek and demanding

This book had the perfwct asshole alpha in it. Dome life was all about structure for the wonderful betas the lived near the edge of the dome to maintain and repair it when suddenly a fall changes everything. *triggers warning*

I AM COMMODORE-- BY SERVING ME, YOU SERVE THE DOME--YOU OWN ME

From the time I learned that Addison Cain was bringing out a new spinoff from her Alpha Claim series, I have heavily anticipated it. I have described it as a series you love to hate and personally considered the ending brilliant, allowing the reader to come to their own conclusions as to what truly happens with Shepherd and Claire. Well, readers, buckle up and get ready for a new ride and I look forward to the journey. While this is a spinoff, I do think the reader could start this series and not be lost if they missed reading Alpha’s Claim series (but why would you want to miss it?)

The plot will have Unit 17C of Palo Corps, Brenya Perin will be working outside Bernard’s Dome, when everything goes wrong, she is injured and on her own. Surviving the fall, dislocating her shoulder, and a large cut on her face is minor compared to being treated like a pariah by all the other Betas. Attacked, dragged to a ventilation duct and claimed by not just an Alpha, but the Commodore will spin this tale into motion. “She had zero control. She had no way of stopping it.”

Brenya it turns out is not Beta but is an Omega. The chemicals in her diet have suppressed her, but now that she is fasting in defiance of her treatment, her genetic makeup is scented by an Alpha. “Her metamorphosis has been uncomfortable.” Her life as she knew it as a Beta is gone. “She was never going to be returned to her cot at the barracks—there was no place for her there, her skills were no longer needed—this he had told her every time she ‘d questioned.” “Mon chou, this discomfort, and confusion will pass. Once we are fully bonded, you will wonder why you were ever afraid.”

I am already enthralled with the story, and this is just a prequel. I am ready to read Stolen, book 1 in this series.

It isn't Shepherd and Claire but the author warns the reader at the begining and it's as good a story as my hang over book demanded I read after finishing Alpha's Claim so here is why I took a star over this great prelude. It started as a 1st person POV then it switched to 3rd and on it this way that after a while I had to reread some things to get if it was Brenya talking to me or the narrator... it got on my nerve and that's why but I sure as hell that I'm delving as of right now to the next installment, to get o=more on this story and more on Shepherd and Claire. I just can't get enough of this

17Cs and Jacques story begins.
This was dubbed a prequel. But do not be fooled. It is a cruel teaser, that will have you counting the days until the full story is released end of September .
With her usual word-magic Ms Cain paints a picture that is frightening in its intensity. Over a few paragraphs you are immersed in a world that makes you want to slip between the pages to not only read, but smell and touch.
The intense dichotomy between the two main characters will have you screaming bloody murder when this short tidbit ends.
I will have to, but I cant wait for the continuation of this story.

Out Of Control😵

Brenya💋 is a beta worker, she works on keeping the dome over the Settlement in one piece. When she is sent to repair a crack, she falls and is entangled in her safety line, dislocating her arm and smashing her face, and her bio suit face plate. The outside air comes in and she inhales the forbidden air. But the air is fresh and the aroma of growing things🌸 fills her lungs and senses. She hangs mid air for hours, in terrible pain, not knowing if she is doomed now because inhaling the air outside the dome is supposed to be fatal. The air is supposed to contain a fatal virus. The 🌙night passes, while her fate is decided. Finally she is brought in and put through a rigorous decontamination regimen. But the damage is done, she loses her job and is ostracized because now she is different. She's no longer a basically boring beta drone with a number instead of a name. She is lost, out of control because she has no job, no purpose.
There are some xxx scenes in this novella. This is a dark, dystopian world🌍, the Alphas control everything, the betas are the worker drones, but they also produce the omegas, the women who are prized above everything and can only be mates to an Alpha.
YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

This book ends in a cliffhanger.

Absolute B.S! This author sure knows how's to milk a money maker!

So after reading the reviews for the supposed final book in Shepherd and Claire's story I saw them mentioning how the author planned to explain what happened to the couple in a spin off series I don't know if it's to try and make up to her pissed off fans for ending the third book with such a horrible ending or to try and milk this money maker til the last dime. She knows her fans so badly wanted to know what happened to the two characters that they would be willing to purchase another book just to find out and in my opinion that's low! You shouldn't have to weasel your way into getting sales if you're a good author your work should speak for itself! After reading the little preview at the end of this story people would have to be stupid to even consider giving her money for the book when it comes out. All she stated was that Shepherd is possible going to be at war with this new Dome and that he was having to care for his Mate that was all, it just really makes no sense to even bring shepherd into this story all it will lead to is more confusion and more unanswered questions so if you're crazy enough to fall for this mess by all means waste ur money but I won't be doing it no thank you!!

Absolute Power, a beginning

I read this short prelude of Alpha's Control and it was interesting but really too short to get hooked into further books.
I need more of a background and story to hook me but I am interested.
I hope I can see more of what is offer with a complete novel that covers everything and has an ending I would be happy with.
I don't appreciate cliffhangers, they make me feel like a female character in a book being denied her orgasms!

I've been checking and checking and checking endlessly for Alpha's Control to come out and I squealed when I saw this!

I have a feeling I'll like this book even more than I like Born to be Bound and I liked Born to be Bound a LOT! I love how this book shows us a better glimpse of Bernard Dome and I love reading more about the Red Consumption from Born to be Bound--how dystopian Europe came to be as broken as it is.

I also love the concept of Brenya being initially mistaken for a defective Beta and made to do grunt work for the dome maintenance. This has potential in terms of showing the elite Commodore what life is as an engineering grunt and possibly spur some changes for the better in Bernard Dome.

There's a different dynamic between Brenya/Jacques vs Claire/Shepherd. While Shepherd was a rebel in his dome, Jacques is the leader of his and is to an extent pressured by its customs and laws. After the claiming craze, I feel he's much gentler in the way he treats his mate and I enjoy that. I'm dying to read Alpha's Control and see how Claire/Shepherd's paths will cross Brenya/Jacques'. I wonder if the two are on opposing sides? That would be fascinating to read! I wouldn't know who to root for! Can't wait until 26th September!

Good beginning but an abrupt ending

This story is under a new series, but follows the same world from an earlier series regarding Omegas and Alphas. There is a new couple and Dome at play and it sounds interesting bc again Omegas are held to a different standard, but here we learn this Done does not have any Omegas. It was very interesting and I knew it would be shorter as it is a prelude, and that it would have a cliffhanger to take us into the next book, but I was surprised at how the ending was so abrupt. I am interested to see what is going on in this Done and why there are no Omegas...also to find out what is going on with Shepherd and Claire from the earlier trilogy!

Events was a beta dome repairer and had an accident, which caused her to call out a broken panel, injuring her body. She was eventually rescued and sent to the decontamination chamber. She spent weeks in a chamber with stale rations and daily tests by scientists. When she was released she was shunned and lost her job. She wandered to a fountain and was caught and raped by the Commodore of the dome. He caused grave damage to her mind and body. She is actually an omega that was mislabeled and the beta diet kept her omega traits from showing. She is the first one born in the dome. Jacques is the Commodore and took his omega without thought. She is broken, and he is to blame. This is the first in the series, and hopefully there will be a HEA.

A fantastic getting to know you prelude

First, and most importantly, setting expectations. This was marked as a prelude so I was expecting a prequel that would tempt me into wanting to read more, and this delivers. It establishes key points of the world building that has me yearning to learn more in addition to providing an interesting introduction to Jacques and Brenya.

I would suspect this is the opposite of a done in one or stand alone, given in was a satisfying glimpse of another world, without a cliffhanger, but has me ready to turn the page and read whatever comes next.

This was a short novella in order to introduce us in Alpha's Control series.

This is a dystopian dark erotic story, so I was needing some introduction to this world. This part didn't go smoothly for me. I couldn't understand why this or that was happening and after I finished the novella, I still didn't know! There was tension and mystery and I am sure that the series will be much more interesting to read.

On the other hand, Ms. Cain writes beautiful, intense and dark stories and I will definitely read more of her books!

This is my personal opinion and it shouldn't prevent anyone from reading this story.
