Empire builder Dominic Santorini is surrounded by women angling to share the luxurious life his wealth will buy. Eccentric, colorful tomboy Lexie Grayson encounters a hot guy in a hotter classic car broken down on the side of the road, and an afternoon as his mechanic leads to a scorching night with a man she knows only as Nikos—but when dawn arrives, he’s vanished, never to be seen again.
She buries her heartache in her new job, staging an extravaganza launch for a video game, that will give her a chance to snoop around for clues that the company is responsible for stealing from her best friend. But when she meets her new employer--
He's an ice-cold version of that magical night’s unforgettable lover.
What kind of man did she fall for on that incredible night? Does he know his company has stolen from her best friend? Why does he act as if they never met? Was the magic they shared only a lie?
He’s as shocked as she is. Was the fairy sprite who touched his heart an illusion as false as the ones she is creating for his gala? Worse, could the woman he can't forget be behind the leak that’s endangering his company’s survival?
What is truth, and who is real…and is love a luxury neither can afford?
A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.
Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.
And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.
No matter how my day is going, whatever my disposition, it only gets better when I read a book by Jean Brashear. Such is the way I am feeling after finishing Texas Magic, the latest about Sweetgrass Springs. As I’m writing this, though, her words have captured me so, I’m stealing glances at these wonderful pages that have uplifted me so beautifully.
Ms. Brashear’s brilliance is creating characters who we wish we could know intimately. Strong, exquisite alpha males most compatible with earthy, independent and naturally feminine women.
When A. “Lexie” Grayson meets Dominick “Nikos” Santorini, she surprises him by offering to help him fix his car, stranded as he is by the road out of town. He can’t believe this little sprite’s knowledge and adventurous spirit and before he realizes it, she has guilelessly warmed his heart, as no other woman ever has. Like lightning striking, the air between them sizzles, forcing them to give into a passion, unlike anything they’ve felt before. When Nikos leaves a note, as Lexie is sleeping, saying he’ll be calling her, she floats on cloud nine.
As an Event Planner extraordinaire, Lexie is about to get the shock of her life as she learns Nikos is actually her mystery man and the owner of Poseidon Productions, the company she hopes to receive a contract to produce their Gala event. He never contacted her and aside from embarrassment, she feels humiliated by his brusque manner when they are introduced for her interview.
There is great depth, substance and mystery in this story and the characters created will keep you enthralled throughout, from Lexie’s best friend, Max, to Niko’s sister, Ariana and his second in command, Bradley. With Ms. Brashear’s unique talent, they live on in our memories like a refresh button. I can’t rave enough about Texas Magic and highly recommend it! Kudos ~ Bravo
This was a good story in its own right. If you are looking for the same feel you get with a Sweetgrass Springs story, you will not find it here. Jackson Gallagher, Scarlett, and Spike are mentioned, but that is pretty much the extent of the Sweetgrass connection.
That being said, this was a romance novel about computer espionage, loyalty vs. disloyalty, honesty vs. dishonesty, love, friendship, and vulnerability.
The last couple of chapters were somewhat exciting and suspenseful. The narration was ok. There wasn't quite the same energy that I have picked up on other Sweetgrass books, but that may have been because this book had a different energy than the others. I still found the narrator was able to take me to the dome, the mansion, the gala, etc. with no problem.
I liked the characters of Lexie and Nikos. It was a bit disappointing that there was very little interaction with Sweetgrass Springs like there was in the previous books. I love this series so I may be just a bit to picky about that. She does talk to Skarlet briefly and Spike helps her some but never a meal at the cafe, or a trip to the Springs or much interaction with the town. A bit to going over things in their head for me. It was a good story and I did like it but did not think it was a good as the previous stories. Probably just me. Don't let me discourage you because this series is wonderful. If you have not done so read it from the beginning.
I'm not sure how this was a Sweetgrass Springs story? There were mentions of some of the residents of Sweetgrass Springs but that was all. We were introduced to Dominic in Texas Charm, but I really didn't need to know about him. This is a instant love romance which is not my favorite type of story. I did figure out who the inside source was early in the story. There was a little bit of suspense at the end which kept me turning the pages. In my opinion this was just a filler story for the boxed set. I didn't feel it was needed.
Once again the author does not let her readers down. The story of Nikos and Lexie is magical while being a "love/hate" relationship. While you can feel their love and passion for each other, you also feel their distrust, their anger, their hurt and pain. I can see another book in Jean's future featuring Max's story. I highly recommend this book and all the previous Sweetgrass Spring stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this audio book and I am voluntarily reviewing in.
This was a pleasant book. I did enjoy the audio version as I recently suffered from the flu and reading took too much energy. Having it read to me was a great experience. I did have to slow down the speed though as I am moving at a slower pace right now. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
I simply cannot say enough about my respect and admiration for the skills and artistry of Jean Brashear. As long as she produces, I know I will have quality reading at hand.
Loved this one. The intrigue of who was lying and who was telling the truth. Their innocent meeting on the side of the road. And the planned one where nothing seemed as it should. Then the finale that reveals all. Narration was superb as it has been all along this series.
I love this couple. I love Lexie’s feistiness. Another book I couldn’t put down and read it like my life depended on it. Can’t waist to start the next one and probably won’t be sleeping tonight
This is a good story with very loose ties to Sweetgrass Springs. I enjoyed the book but felt certain scenes, expressions and thoughts of the characters were too fanciful and too long.
Jean Brashear delivers the goods once again. Her stories always pull you in,and keep you guessing.Romance, action thrills.I never fail to lose myself in her books.
An interesting read with some suspense. Lexie is a persistent woman who goes after what she wants. Dominic isn't sure what he wants and fights his attraction to Lexie. Great ending.
