Raising Men, Not Boys: Shepherding Your Sons to be Men of God

Rate this book
How to raise a godly man in a godless world

Perhaps there has never been a more challenging time to raise children than in today’s culture. Parents are having to address challenges that their parents never had to with them. And while the core elements to raising children are the same, parents need wisdom for applying them to this day and age.

That’s what this book is about: navigating the times and raising a generation of men on godly principles—sons who are ready, able, and motivated to represent God during their days of sojourning on this earth. Pastor and author Mike Faberez will help parents pass the faith on to their sons, in prayer that the promises of God extend to the third and fourth generations… and beyond.

Parents will be equipped to:

Envision their son’s future every day
Set his spiritual trajectory
Build a home that grows godly men
Address the rebellion in their son’s heart
Prepare him to face the world and contribute to it
Help their son toward  a right view of play and leisure
Navigate the teenage years
There is an epidemic of grown men with the maturity of young boys. Be a parent who saves your child from prolonged adolescence. Scripture says, “The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him” (Prov. 23:24). Children are a gift from the Lord. Read Raising Men, Not Boys  to steward the gift of parenting and shepherd your sons to be men of God.

Such a great book for parents of boys. From infants to teenage to adulthood, mark does a great job of how-to navigate rambunctious, crazy, and adventures boys. I recommend this to all my friends who have little boys.

Super helped by the practical ideas and recommendations in this book. I appreciated the author’s notes about mistakes he’s made and adjustments he and his wife would make, and leaving plenty of room for conviction and individual preferences.

I think this book is more geared towards dads, but it was informative in giving a male perspective on how to raise boys... or should I say men! As a mom reading the book, I think dads would get more out of it since from what the author was saying, dads play the largest part in how a boy will turn out. I did get some takeaways from this book but they were mostly Scripture references and gave me ideas of thinks to talk to my husband about.

Lots of great practical suggestions. My favorite was the allowance (which I’ve been generally against) but he had such a compelling though about teaching tithing, savings and planning for the future (cars and small diamonds :)!

Listened to as an audiobook. Had some practical, everyday parenting applications. A lot of his opinions- some I agree with, some are "ok" tips. There was not a whole lot of new information for me, but good reminders

Great book on raising boys! I would liken it to James Dobson’s Bringing Up Boys but I liked how this pastor dealt with puberty and all that entails more than Dobson.
