This is a short story of money and how individuals and families choose to work with it. It is a look at one person's life from a childhood where money was mismanaged and on to a young adult life working three jobs to get out of large amounts of debt. It is the exploration of how a family can look at money as a useful tool and when used and saved wisely life can be a lot easier. This book has some advice and inspiration but it is not a money saving "guide". It is a personal exploration of how money was used during a lifetime and how it effects our today's and tomorrows. It is about the freedom that comes with being wise stewards of our household funds and appreciating a more simple life that will avoid debt.
Great little book about living on one small income. Good tips and insights into life living simply so that you can enjoy it. I will be reading more of Kate Singh's books.
Such an amazing story of her life and the different stuggles, triumphs they endured and celebrated. Becoming frugal along the way out of desperation, healthier living and pure hobby. I see some many similarities in our own lives. It was a nice persptive into the stuggles of obtaining a healthy and happy home. Thank you for sharing you life story.
This was more like a short memoir than anything usefulon how to live on a small income. Though entertaining, the author just tells us more about her personal story and how she got from not having money to having some money to getting a house. Will you learn anything from this? Not really, but it is interesting to see how her family lives on so little. But there's no tips on how to live frugally besides the basic "save more and have a garden and do everything at home," and even these points are glazed over a bit, so if that was what you were looking for, this isn't for you.
There are a million "frugal homemaking" books out there, and they all pretty much says the same thing. But this is more an autobiography than a list of tips and practices, very much like the Frugal Gazette of Amy Dasyzyn (sorry for the spelling). Hearing about Kate's journey makes you realize that no matter where you start in life, your frugal goals are attainable. Thanks Kate!
Honest and forthright with her advice, Kate Singh does a wonderful job of showing us a lifestyle that we should all be living and basking in because of its simplicity and consideration of the world we livevin. Debt free living is becoming increasingly more common and doable. I've been working my way through all of Kate's books and enjoying getting to know her while getting to know more about myself as I dig myself out of debt.
You really learn a lot about the author, her family and her background, and she covers many experiences here. But it all seems a bit rushed and I did not always feel that I was learning how to live frugally, only how she got from one tough situation to the next.
This book took me a few days to read. It is a realistic look at one persons life journey and how she manages to make it work overcoming obstacles and truly enjoying what life has to offer her one day at a time.
I was really looking for tips and tricks of frugal living, this is not it. This book is a quick rendition of the author's adult life. It's inspiring to know she could live on little but it doesn't give you the "how" I was looking for.
I enjoyed Kate's down to earth, no nonsense style. Felt like we were just chatting in her livingroom. I will definitely read her other books and some of those she recommended.
I was expecting more tips intertwined amongst the storytelling. Also, the flow of the book was confusing. The author jumps here to there in the story. I'd pass on this one.
I love Kate and her down-to-earth philosophy. I'm a big fan of her YouTube channel as well. Reading this book is like having a coffee chat with a friend! Great, realistic tips for living your best life on less.
This was a fun mini-autobiography to read. I enjoy this author’s books, and it was nice to read the backstory behind her frugality. I even learned some more money-saving tips along the way, though the bulk of the book is about the events on the author’s life that led to her frugality.
