Tracy Slater may be a successful pop star, but fame and fortune isn't everything she thought it'd be. Under the thumb of a husband who is growing steadily more abusive, she's decided her marriage is over. She just needs to make it through one more trip home for the holidays with him before she’s free.
If only in my dreams…
Stephen Austin worked hard to become the successful novelist he’s always wanted to be. So why isn't he happy? And why does he feel so lonely? Then he runs into his old girlfriend, the one he thought he had lost forever.
Tormented by the mistakes of their past, Stephen sees his reunion with Tracy as a second chance. But does she feel the same way?
Really great short book. Trigger warnings of abuse and cheating. I would have loved this to be longer but still some decent writing. Listened on audio and the duel narration really worked. First in the series. 4 stars
I received this book via a promo code at my request and this is my honest voluntary review.
TW Domestic Abuse.
Popstar Tracey Slater and Author Stephen Austin are former High School Sweethearts driven apart by the perils of all things youthful and their impending futures. Tracy moved to LA and became famous singing, and Stephen didn't follow her, opting to spend his time going to College and becoming a famous novelist. It's been years and while Stephen's never really moved on, growing increasingly jaded at the end of what he felt was his best chance at Love and Happiness, writers block has been hitting him hard.
Tracey is married to someone else, and has been for years now. Only, the reality of her romance isn't anything like those paparazzi pictures and her husband is bitter, and getting angrier the more her Star Power outshines him, so he dims it when he can with a slap here and there. Spending the holidays with her family leads to a reunion with Stephen and those diverged roads collide, time and maturity has eliminated all their youthful problems, both the young lovers cant fight the desire to be together. Tracey finally gets up the courage to tell her mooching ball and chain she wants a divorce, then its all happily ever after.
This was a short sweet Christmas listen told in fantastic in Dual Narration by Brenna Larsen and Andrew Russell.
I absolutely fell in love with this book! I adore both the main characters, right from the start they had a place in my heart. Well written and amazingly narrated (audiobook) Highly recommend to anyone looking for a short holiday romance.
It was shorter than my usual listen but I love Christmas stories. It was delightful to have a Christmas magic ending. I got a copy from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Tracy and Steve reunite after ten years apart. it was tragic for Tracy to live with abuse from her husband Charlie. I am glad she had the courage to file a police report and press charges. Tracy and Steve get a HEA. Brenna Larsen and Andrew Russell narrated well.
A very good novella by an author who lives not too far from me. A singer and a writer used to date in high school, but they broke up and went their separate ways. The singer (the woman) got married, but was not happy in her marriage. The writer (the man) never married. In recent times, his writing career seemed to dry up. The two want to take off where they started years ago, but are not sure if it's the right thing to do. David uses realistic characters in realistic situations.
I really struggle with short stories and novellas because I feel like they’re not developed enough, if they’re not part of a series. My favorite part about books is the character development and I do feel like that’s often lacking in novellas. However, that was not true for A Christmas Reunion, and I was pleasantly surprised. I think the characters were really developed and dynamic. I believe they jumped off the page and I really believed in who they were, especially for the first half. Also, no shocker being from Batavia, having this book based in Batavia was just amazing. I literally graduated a couple years after these people so it was really easy to be in that space. I really enjoyed that part of it! I did like the novella, however, some of the decisions, the characters made were cuckoo banana (yes that is a clinical term). I still like it, but I do think the pacing at the end was a little off. But that’s because it was a novella and like stated, they’re not my favorite. I also do think this book should’ve came with a content warning, there is domestic violence in it, and it’s not very Christmasy, which I was hoping for reading this on Christmas Eve Eve.
I enjoyed this story. It is more of a journey of the characters finding themselves and what they really want out of life. The romance between Tracy and Stephen is a slow progress and at the end it’s sweet and satisfying. A Christmas Reunion is a very well written romance story that can be quickly devoured. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary romance. A perfect read for around the holidays.
A Christmas Reunion is the first book in the Small Town Christmas series.
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All my opinions and thoughts are in no way influence by this.
You cannot go wrong with second chance romance and Christmas! This story of Tracy and Stephen is a short and emotional journey. Tracy has left her hometown to follow her dreams and left Stephen behind. When she returns years later, married, unhappy and a little lost, her high school sweetheart is there. But can they find their chance at happiness? Will her greedy, nasty husband let her go? There are obstacles to overcome and David Neth has woven a beautiful love story of hope and future happiness. His choice of dual narration with Brenna Larsen and Andrew Russell were spot on, giving wonderful performances to the characters. From the crazy husband, to the concerned parents to the emotional couple, the narration is well paced and enjoyable.
This was such a sweet story. Tracy and Steven dated in high school. When it came time for college, Tracy moved to LA and became famous singing. Steven wanted to be a writer and stayed behind because if he moved, he would have to work and not have time to write. Of course, as always, life happened. Years later Tracy comes home for the holidays with her husband, who I won’t say much about except that he’s horrible. Find out what happens as the holiday passes. This story really makes you stop and think about life choices and what ifs. Also, if you have a good thing you should cherish it and be thankful, no matter if you’re rich or poor. And money isn’t everything. It doesn’t buy love.
I listened to this story in audio form. Narrators Brenna Larsen and Andrew Russell bring these characters to life in this Short story with a second chance at love. Reunited high school sweethearts Tracy and Stephen have lived their own lives and have become successful in their own right. She’s at the top of her career and married and he’s leveled out and looking for his muse. My favorite character is Stephen, I would love to see these characters get a full story, either what happen in they’re time apart or of what happens after this story.
Very good short second chance Christmas story. Please be aware of the trigger warnings. The main characters are well written and perfect for each other. True love doesn't always survive high school and ambition and Tracey and Stephen were very impulsive and walked away but never forgot that first love. This book brings back all of those youthful and joyous feelings years later when they meet again. This story does not make it easy to get back together but does make the possibility available. This couple is perfect for each other.
Tracy is a famous singer and returning home for the Christmas holidays...w her controlling husband. She runs into her 1st love, Steve, and the pair reconnect. Will Tracy end her marriage to be with Steve? How will her husband react? This is a quick read about 2nd chances. I’m not a fan of cheating so I could not, in good conscience, give 5 stars...but that’s my personal preference. Great HEA and narration.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This was a great short story. Although this isn't the Christmas Season, I really enjoyed listening and could feel the Christmas Spirit. This story had heart. The author gave us a solid and well though out, quality story. I enjoyed the story and the characters. The narrator did a great job with the characters and their personalities. The talent for writing by the author shown through out the story.
I usually read the more urban fantasy books David Neth has written, but this was nice. Also Rock Chicks! (Well, actually I don't know if Tracy is Rock or Country, or something else. I just had to say that, especially since I'm a musician.)
A lovely story of people finding themselves and each other. A perfect holiday treat. Listened on audible as well as read the ebook. Not to be missed by anyone, a joy to read and listen to. Received a free audio version.
A Christmas Reunion is a sweet holiday romance about a pop-star who comes home for Christmas and finds the love she left behind. The story has a few cuss words, but otherwise is fairly clean.
The audiobook has two narrators, which works well for the two points of view in the story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I'm glad Tracy got away from Charlie and he got what he deserves. Tracy and Steven got their happily ever after.
A nice story and it's written by a guy. Don't see that a lot. You enjoy the characters and the way the story unfolds and the way the story is narrated. It has intersting characters and you like the main characters. So when you get a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.
This short story gives you a glimpse into the life of a Star. Returning to her childhood home for a nice relaxing Christmas, doesn't actually happen for Tracy. The characters are well written and the tale moves along nicely. This novella is just a quick read, but a very enjoyable one.
