Rubbish

I like military science fiction. I like aliens. And I absolutely love artificial intelligence. And this book has it all. But it was still rubbish.

The characters aren't very interesting or believable, and the plot is frankly silly. Most of the fighting seemed like it should have been afterthought to fleet engagements which aren't really described. And the dialogue just doesn't work at all. It's not natural, and it's not funny. I began to skip through the book about two thirds of the way in, just to see what happened. But by the end, I really didn't care.

Hoplite (Alien War #1) I'm not normally a Sci-Fic reader, but I'm a character reader and Isaac Hooke really gets into character development. The book gets its hooks into you in the opening lines and before you know it you're already invested in the characters and the story line. Futuristically, believably written this is a very good book and a must read for those who have read his first novels. No spoilers here though, buy the books, read the books, get into a very good author I have!

Zeus (Alien War #2) I read this book in less than a day. If read The Alien War Trilogy Book 1 you're already invested in the characters and the story line. Futuristically, believably written this is a very good book and a must read for those who have read his first novels. No spoilers here though, buy the books, read the books, get into a very good author I have!

Titan (Alien War #3) This book gets its hooks into you in the opening lines, continuing from the first two novels, you're already invested in the characters and the storyline. Futuristically, believably written this is a very good book and a must read for those who read his Captain's Crucible novels. No spoilers here though, buy the books, read the books, get into a very good author I have! Now I just need to buy, read and review the Atlas series.

David Weber has found his match

Isaac Books has provided us with a heckofa war story. Yes, it is space operatic but these are really good characters. And there's a very convincing progression of Intel about who and what the enemy is and what they are fighting for.
I detected a bit more than a whiff of similarity between these teams and SEALs which is unavoidable I guess. Elite war fighters are ... elite.

Was it strictly a coincidence that Hooke named the various generations of mechs after early NASA launch vehicles? I am glad there are more of these books to dive into. Rage rides again!

Great trilogy of mechs and space marines! No bad points that slow down the pace of the plot and - even better - no major issues with speling or writing.

Title says it all, but I'll add this - I'm adding the author to my follow list, because these books were written well, with few errors.

No disappointment here

Alien War is a great story following Rade, an elite mech warrior, who leads his MOTH team as they fight bioengineered aliens that are trying to take over every specie they encounter with simulated nano-intelligence and mankind is next. Another well done storyline by Isaac Hooke.

Average Mech Series

If this is your first foray into Mech literature, I would recommend cultivating your interest on some other authors.
I did enjoy this series, but I didn’t find myself staying up late to finish chapters or putting off work to read the next chapter like I do with above average to excellent books. I am not sure if I am jaded as I read a fair amount of Mech, but the first two books were a little bit of a grind. The final book was definitely the best, but the ending was a bit abrupt and felt some how unsatisfying.
But if you have the time, you won’t regret using it to read these books.

Alien War: A soldier’s journey through a sci-fi war’s hell and gore.

I have, subjectively, divided this series in two segments, the bulky one representing over 90% of its content, describing a soldier’s journey through war’s hell and gore, is filled with endless killings and heaping piles of dead bodies. It is a genre that appeals to many but does not resonate with me.

The second segment (the story’s denouement) is the part that justified my reading this series. It expounded on the transcendental view that individual consciousness is the Universe’s synergistical way of looking and interacting with itself. That part deserved 4 stars.

Good story but..

I grew up with Heinlein, Asimov, Anthony, and even Jules Verne. My English teachers always considered them as being "not real literature." Mr Books has done a better than fair job of following these legends an pioneers of Scifi. Parts of the plots were forced rather than developed and the final exit was a mass of confusion. Will I read more of his books? Probably. The editing was excellent especially in an e-Book. Where spellchecker overrides human readers.

Pleasantly surprised

I started reading this expecting a variation of Mech Wars, which I really didn’t care for, but was pleasantly surprised. Issac got a little carried away with some of the combat scenes ( is that even the correct way to describe it?), but all in all it was definitely a page turner. Anytime I’m kinda depressed when I’m done with a book that’s a pretty good indication that I really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work, Issac. BTW, this is the first time I’ve read anything by Hooke but it certainly won’t be the last.

Like mechs and hardcore action? This series is the one for you. Intense, non-stop, and keeps you thinking. These guys from Alpha Platoon just never get a chance for a break as a new alien threat can put humanity on the brink of extinction. Great banter between characters and the plot keeps you guessing.

Fun read

Engaging story of warriors fighting aliens in mechanized assault suits designed to make them nigh invulnerable. The story does get somewhat redundant at times as the men face ever stronger foes with ever stronger mechs and there is an almost obsession with the details of how marches are performed or described. Overall good books.

Action and warfare

I liked the entire series and read all of the books. I give the books four stars because the action seemed to go slightly stale. I would advise that if you like a great deal of action, this is it! My preference is more like Jay Allen with increasing new enemies, but also lots of action.
I guess I have read more of Jay’s books, but I like these theme too!

Mechanical warfare at its best.

Gripping action and adventure from start to finish. Travel to new worlds, meet aliens and kills them.
Great characters with realistic situations and lots of fun.I love the interaction between the characters in the squad.
I look forward to more from this author.

Space opera and alien bugs!

I think Rade’s surname should be Gallagher because although he’s not Irish he’s certainly got their luck! And, of course, it’s his clone who is the one with the strongest will! This is a half retro sf story remiscent of Robert Heinlein and the early sf.

good not great

This story wasn’t nearly as good as the first. The ending was a bit anticlimactic. But the real sad part was that rade/rage did stand before the rest of team and acknowledge his HEART in the end. If you. Have read the books you will know what I mean by heart if you haven’t I hope you enjoy the adventure

What a series

Very good galaxy building, military Gear was slightly on the weak side sometimes but that just made the principles have to step up and be better tactically to win the day.hooraw

A solid mechs vs minions outing. The earth troopers take the fight to the hordes of gibbering aliens. I liked the way they had their transport regularly shot out from under them but still continued with the mission. Probably pretty hard on the pilots.

Well done excellent

I found this series, exciting and addictive. Race or Rage was a great character to follow through the story. His interaction and can do attitude was very well written. I look forward to other books by the author.

Good story

Good story! It didn't head in the direction i thought it was going to go but finished pretty good. I wasn't thrilled with the bad guys . I thought it would have been better if they had been aliens instead of weird bio engineered earth conglomeration .

Good read

Although a good, fast read if you like military adventure at some point the plot and characters become repetitive. Once you embrace the bioengineering theme the individual variations begin to sound the same and you can only add so many toys onto a robotic chassis.

Good series.

Nice fast paced story. Only a few distractions like switching between metric and standard units. A few jumps In time. I do recommend it. FYI there is some adult language and scenes.

Action Packed, Never A Dull Moment

Looking for a fast paced, easy read with lots of action then this is a good read. Interesting characters and relationships. Wished ending was a little more fleshed out though.

I’ll be reading Rade’s other escapades!
