"Driven by Desire" is the story of Riley and Solomon. Solomon, the king mobster spots Riley, who's a mechanic when he comes to enquire about his stolen car. He is entranced by her and gets obsessed, relentlessly stalking her until she gives in. She on the other hand, fights by hook or crook but she can't resist his one minded Devotion.. Everyone knows I live for stalker, psycho heroes- the crazier and obsessive- the better but I didn't connect with Solomon. The occasions I would soften to him, the heroine would piss me off. I felt there was a lot of back and forth, one second she'd hate him and other she'd give in. The whole thing about her involving her psychotic ex Shank was SO stupid, and the assault scenes were difficult to read.
Also, post trauma, she's quiet one minute and next minute her PTSD is gone as the hero decides to bang her. Uh. I hate jumps in storyline. Not for me Safe with exceptions 1.5/5
I like a dominant, possessive hero and I would have thought I would be head over heels in love with Solomon because he is certainly that. Unfortunately, he was also a little too heavy handed for me. He was constantly threatening the people in Riley’s life in order to force her into doing what he wanted. His force also led to some moments of dubious consent. Riley did eventually yield to him but only because she felt she had no other choice. She did end up desiring him at that moment and time, and afterwards, but I never felt a sizzle between them before that decision was made.
I wanted to love this story but I just never felt like I connected with the characters. I will read more from this author because I suspect she either has, or will eventually have, a hero that fits my criteria perfectly. Fingers crossed that I find him.
A fun, filthy, exhilarating story with a sassy heroine & a dark, broody, hot alpha who falls head over heels and will do anything to have her. I got exactly what I was hoping for with this book. Delicious & un-putdown-able. So excited there's a story for Roman & Katie to sink my teeth into next.
Fantastic H who was desperately obsessed with the h. The h was annoying at times, especially the cursing and running away. So excited to read Roman's story and I hope this series continues. I adore this author, she writes the kind of stories I love.
Whoa! What a friggin surprise! I've never heard of this author. Although I absolutely hate the cover, I decided to read because the author graciously offered the book for free recently. I am friggin ecstatic I gave this amazing story a chance!
I was a little skeptical in the beginning because it's a Mafia story with a hero named Solomon. How wimpy is that name? I mean really how many over the top alpha dudes are named Solomon? I assumed. Huge mistake. "S" is not only an incredibly sexy over the top stalker alpha, he plays a mean game of cat and mouse! Riley doesn't stand a chance! Before they can focus on each other, both are required to handle a huge problem! A huge crazy problem! And what a crazy ride that problem is...
I absolutely LOVE this story! It's dark, delicious, violent, and fabulous! Kudos to Slater for creating a character with an issue most are not familiar with nor the impact on life outside of childhood! I am soooooo impressed! I'm on a Slater binge reading trend like now! I want to read everything this brilliant woman has written!
Both the MCs are badass, oh and so is the fmc’s mom lol. The MMC is obsessed since the moment he laid eyes on her and so the story goes on. Didn’t bore me for one bit. 😍 Their friends were also really fun, can’t wait to read Katie and Roman’s book. It’s a dub-con and I love the trope hence, I loved it. My second from the author and I plan to read much more, she writes fast paced and quite well written stories.
Eh. He’s obsessed but, it’s more like an “I must acquire you”. Considering that he’s like a crime lord, I mean what could we expect. Plus, he’s technically a violent guy, and all I’m saying is that sometimes it just takes one instance to snap. Only deeper into the book was his love apparent. I found her incredibly annoying. Very teenagerish in character.
I've always been a huge fan of alpha-holes and since prisoner of fortune Nikita slater has managed to keep my interest in her uber alphas like no tomorrow. This was no different. I'll most definitely reread this. Solomon is extremely alpha and you can't help swooooon over him. Our heroine is a badass mechanic who will literally leave you in awe.
I stopped at 18%, I wish I'd never started it. It's not dark, it's plain abusive. He harassed her, he ordered her around, he forced her, he hurt her, he even choked her...
Alpha? Nah, just a sick bastard. Romance? Nah, manipulation, intimidation and physical assault!
And, from the moment he sets eyes on the little mechanic, he wants her. Despite his dangerous reputation, she denies him at every turn, infuriating and intriguing him until he knows he must own her loyalty, passion and fire. He won't stop until she becomes his.

This books is standalone. Guaranteed HEA, NO cheating, NO cliffhanger.
Hero sees heroine first time at her garage. (Yeah...she is a mechanic). He is obsessed. She obviously fights him. Even involves her crazy ex to fight him off. The hero is too possessive and the heroine is stupid. Honestly, I lost interest.
This was my first book by Nikita Slater and I'm now a fan! Very interesting story about Solomon (City Mafia kingpin) and Riley (Fiesty female Mechanic). Upon Solomon's first interaction with Riley, he wanted her and would do anything to get her because what Solomon wants Solomon gets. Riley, did not feel that way. She wanted NO parts of Solomon. Let the games begin! Solomon is so use to getting what he wants, he can simply take Riley and chain her to his bed and that's that. Wow!! I was hooked!
Loved Solomon! He was pure alpha, dominant, obsessive, possessive, jealous, bad-boy, rich, criminal... everything rolled up into one. He knew that he wanted Riley and would not stop until he had her under his thumb. I thought Riley's character was a good match for him. She was fiesty, smart, refused to let him walk over her, but yielded when she knew she was outmatched. They had really good sexual chemistry together. The drama kept me on the edge of my seat, never knowing how it was going to go down! Overall, very good interesting read! I'm off to stalk other books by Nikita Slater because she can write!
Why Not 5 Stars?
Solomon - I think I needed more from/about him. He was just there. I wanted something more to tie me to his character. I needed to feel him more. Small takeaway, but still a fantastic book!
The character names were ...what’s a good way to put this...original, stupid but original. And the story was equally stupid.
Soloman Hart is a mafia kingpin. Feared in the street and known by his face. He shows up at a garage to speak to the owner about his missing car incase someone sold it to a chop shop. Even his car is stupid! Koenigsegg Regera. That is the name of the car?!?! What the hell am I reading? Who and how do you drive “one of the most expensive vehicles in the world” down the street to buy milk? Or go to a club? Why have a car like that? Of course it got stolen you d!ck!
Where the f<%k does Riley live that her mom handles money for shady people as an accountant and is a gambler who like to go to underground casino lounges? Oh I forgot to mention that’s because “blacklisted from every casino and poker game in town”. One of her mechanic buddies had a brother, who “was killed in a gang shooting”!?! This story...(shaking my head)
I also couldn’t understand Riley. She either had balls of steel or she was a wimpy little girl scared and unsure of her next move. All in a single conversation with Mr Hart. The back and forth and back and forth was confusing.
The ending was a bit rushed but I loved it!! Loved that the heroine really fought against the hero and he also didn’t back down. He knew her worth and was willing to fight for her.
I am a die hard Fire & Vice fan but I think this is my favorite Nikita book so far. It was just so much fun to read! I loved the constant back and forth between the main characters. The author can make you feel the tension and chemistry between her characters. This book was fast-paced and at times funny to read. I hope Roman's book comes out soon, I can't wait! Thanks for an awesome read!
This is the first book that I read by the writer Nikita Slater and I liked it. I will definitely read more books of hers. Because she’s a new writer to me, I didn’t know how ‘dark’ this story would be but for me personally, I didn’t really experience it as a really dark story. Yes, this isn’t a light-hearted story and the main man character is a criminal and someone who has no problem with hurting or killing people. But the main focus of the story is on the couple and less on his deadly crimes other than the fact that everyone is afraid of him. So for me that made the story not so dark. I have read darker stories. So I think this story would be a good start for someone who is new to dark books and wants to try one but go slowly about it. The story was told in both POV’s.
Although in the blurb this story is mention as a mafia book, I’m not sure if I would agree with that. Yes, Solomon is a criminal and yes, he’s the boss of a criminal organisation. But I wouldn’t call it mafia, for me when I think of mafia, it consists of a mafia ‘family’ and I didn’t read anything about that in this story. But then we don’t know much about Solomon’s background or his past so maybe I missed something about that.
The main man character (Solomon) was a dark, hard man and I had my doubts if I would like his dominance and his hard pursuit of Riley but Riley’s character proved to be the perfect balance to Solomon’s dominant character. Riley had a good heart but she was no pushover. She was an adrenaline junkie, who loved fast cars and driving dangerous races. She learned from her father how to live on the edge of the law. If needed she could be sneaky, something that drove Solomon equally crazy and impressed. I really loved how she stood up to Solomon and also how she could be vulnerable at times. Riley’s character surprised me a few times (I came to see her as a free spirit with a wild heart) and at the end I really thought that Solomon was the perfect partner for her. Riley needed someone strong, intelligent and equally sneaky to prevent her from endangering herself in her obsession with driving fast cars. I really loved her character.
The interaction between Riley and Solomon were entertaining and the sex scenes were steamy! All I can say is that I will never look at a car or a Ducati the same way LOL.
I liked the secondary characters in this story too. Roman is Solomon’s right-hand man and best friend. He’s just as dangerous (if not more) than Solomon. He had no problem with killing or hurting people. And he had a big obsession with Riley’s best friend Katie. They shared a past together. Katie was a fun, flirty woman but you could also feel that there was more to her. Katie’s brother and Riley’s good friend Wendell was a great, loyal guy. He was a great help to Riley, not only in the garage but also when she’s racing. Riley’s mother was a special character, she’s autistic. She’s very intelligent but not very good with emotions. So Riley and her didn’t have a ‘normal’ mother-daughter relationship.
I enjoyed this story and I’m curious to read Roman and Katie’s story.
(P.S. If you liked this story, than you might like ‘Beautifully cruel’ by J.T. Geissinger too.)
Dark, sexy, and unpredictable, Driven by Desire was a story that I simply could not put down. This was my first story by this author, and I am so glad that I came across this book. It had everything I love in a dark romance: a danger, intrigue, incredibly hot sex, and a hero with a singular obsession with the object of his desire.
I was pulled in from the very first pages and found that I could not put this book down. My favorite part of any story is when the hero and heroine first meet, and the author did such a great job with this scene, creating a tension and attraction that would carry on throughout the entire story. Solomon and Riley were like a match and kerosene, and the interactions between them were so full of tension that I couldn't predict how they would end. I loved how well the author wrote both these scenes and the characters themselves. Solomon was a man accustomed to getting what he wanted, and he wanted Riley with a fierce passion. I loved how no other woman would do once he laid eyes on her, and he stayed loyal to her even before they came together. He was a man used to doing things without emotion, but the cracks around his frozen heart slowly started to form where Riley was concerned. Riley was a great character as well, the perfect combination of tough and vulnerable. She was no pushover, and I loved how rather than giving in, she challenged Solomon at every turn.
This story has dark elements but doesn't go overboard, in my opinion. The suspense and violence added another layer of depth, and the push-and -pull that took up most of the storyline was very well executed and made for some fabulous scenes between Riley and Solomon. The sex between the two of them was so explosive, and only got better as the story went on. I am now a fan of this author for life, and I am so excited that Roman and Katie will be getting their own story soon. I am really looking forward to reading that and other books from this author.
Absolutely fucking love this book. Sassy feisty car mechanic Riley with a passion for car racing, paired up with deadly mafia kingpin Soloman. Sizzles sizzles sizzles and bam! The chemistry were off the chart hot, soooo good! 🥵 I actually felt pity with Soloman - the naivety whenever he underestimated Riley and let her slip through his fingertips, every single time! 😂 goddammned headstrong, you go Riley!
This is the kind of book that I wished it could be longer, it was that good! After weeks of long book slump I’m finally saved, literally.
Smutty, OTT possessive alpha male. Mafia boss. Badass heroine. This is a darker read and therefore has some triggers. I found this story delicious despite the fact that if I met this hero in real life...well I would be running the other direction but in my books I'm a sucker for these kinds of possessive alpha makes. Sue me.
Solid 3.5 read. Really prefer dub-con to bullying or kidnapping dark erotica. Strong, dynamic female leads make all the difference and this book has what most other don't. This was fairly light on the erotica but very enjoyable.
Solid read. The heroine was not weak and had sass out of this world. The Hero was uber possessive and controlling. Can't wait for the rest in the series.
Great writing, twists and turns I didn't expect and just different from other books I've read with the h being the h in the story as the mechanic. The ending made me sad for her
