A BookBub freebie that popped up on my feed at a time I was looking for something quick and different. And this was that.
A MATE TO CHERISH had a lot of potential with an interesting premise. Immortal alien race, descended of the gods, whose former servants rose up against them and nearly wiped them out. The nine males in the sole pack that survived retaliated by hunting down their former servants and eliminating every single one of their race. The gods punished them for the genocide by stripping their wings and most of their powers and condemning them to an eternity without a home, always on the move as "Hunters" - hunting down the guilty to bring them to justice, though never dispensing said justice themselves. Enter Lauren, a human female who has been imprisoned and is now on the auction block to be sold as a slave on an alien world - and also the pack's current "Hunted".
So. Much. Potential!
Unfortunately, almost completely unrealized, because there was not enough room to develop even a portion of such an ambitious plot with so many characters. The book was only 181 pages!
I was left disappointed. The writing was not an issue, it was pretty clean as I recall, but it read more like a fleshed-out outline than it did the final novel. A real shame.
I would read more in this world if the author decided to spend more time developing it though.
Death of their species is due to only nine males still living. Once a powerful race abusive behavior was the downfall of these beings. For the last fifty years these men have traveled through space as Bounty Hunters. Tarin and Malik are performing their current mission to hunt and retrieve Lauren and return her for her crime. Just was not feeling the characters but the world is interesting and may improve in the next Hunters Book. "A copy of this book was provided by author via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." I do love these alien love stories.
This was book 1 in "The Hunters" series. Lauren has hit rock bottom. After fleeing Earth, she ends up penniless and homeless. Before she can even begin her new job, she’s arrested for prostitution and thrown in jail. Tarin and Malik have been having dreams of a woman but they have been forbidden to bond with a mate. They are being punished by their gods for seeking revenge. Tarin and Malik and the rest of the pack member are hunters little do they know Lauren is the one they are hunting. This was a good read the sex was hot I love a good manage story. This was a new author too me. This book did have a few problems with errors and grammar. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
I received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by Ms Roberts, and it will not be my last. I thought she had a creative style and a new plot-line that was refreshing and enjoyable. It flowed well and kept me intrigued. I liked that things played out and weren't all thrown at the reader at one time. I also liked that the mating wasn't instant love and that it required work from the triad.
I was intrigued by the premise and I enjoyed the characters. I liked that Lauren was a strong person and she amused me as well. I could see myself having similar reactions to parts of the story . I really liked that the hunters were in fact beings that had been stripped of powers by the gods. I liked that they put in effort to their own relationship and that their relationships were different than a human pairing.
Review! A Mate To Cherish (Hunters #1) Laylah Roberts!

But most importantly, she makes him feel.
The first book in the new Hunters series is a story that takes readers on one heck of a steamy and thrilling ride.
Lauren, Talin and Malik are solid, engaging characters that easily draw readers into their stories and hold them captive throughout. The romance is a bit rocky due to circumstances and some emotional difficulties which must be overcome and has the readers commiserating with them but the chemistry sizzles from each and every page and the sex scenes are steamy and panty melting worthy.
Suspense and anticipation build throughout the story as this fast paced story starts off with an intensity that grabs readers attention and doesn’t let go through one heart stopping moment after another while this threesome tries to come to terms with their situation and their mating circumstance. Will this threesome be able to achieve their ‘happily ever after or will fate be denied? This question keeps readers guessing until the very end and with some wonderful godlike surprises thrown in things stay interesting and readers don’t have any chance of encountering a dull moment.
The author did a great job of painting vivid imagery to make me feel as if I was a part of the story and I was enthralled from start to finish so I am looking forward to reading the next Hunters book.
A Mate To Cherish is the 1st book in the Hunters series.

I stumbled across this book by accident and after reading the synopsis decided to give it a shot, not really expecting much. It surprised me, in a good way. Nice writing, with a story that pretty much sucked me in from the beginning. I liked the characters for the most part, though the main heroine tended to annoy me at times (as most of the female characters do). Also, I would have liked to get to know some of the side characters more. The plot was rather interesting. I liked learning about the guys' past, even though there wasn't that much information given. And I think that the Gods were too harsh with their punishment. There were some things I did not agree with and I'd like to have more information on the aliens' races and on what's happening on Earth, but overall the book was okey.
A mat e to Cherish is the story of Tarin, Malik, and Lauren. Two aliens one human. Being hunters, Tarin and his pack are responsible for bringing criminals in for justice. Once a hunt starts it won't end until justice is served.
Lauren is innocent but what if she's not? And how can one human running for her life end up finding her bonded pair?
This story is two aliens who have been sentenced to a life they never wanted a long with their pack. They are being punished for choices they made years ago. Now a blessing has befallen them and what are they going to do about it? It was a good quick read and I enjoyed it.
Malik and Tarin are great partners. They are good at their job. They have lost hope of finding their mate. Until fate interferes and puts them on the right path to Lauren. A strong human female with an attitude. She's beautiful, smart and a survivor.
Malik has an instant attraction to her. They work together. Lauren is scared but open minded. She knows she can trust them and once they connected it's sizzling. The chemistry between them is hot. They are engaging and work well together to stay safe.
This story teaches us to never give up and that love conquers all. You are more powerful together. I really enjoyed this wonderful story.
No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are some grammatical and editorial errors that irritated. The characterisation is strong, particularly with the FL Loren. The male leads are ok but stereotypical of the menage genre. The plotline is okay, enough to keep you turning the pages, but not exactly riveting. There are some sex scenes, full of the authors more usual D/s style. Although, how aliens who have never been to Earth use modern idiom such as 'baby/sweetheart' etc is never explained. As an alien menage the book works, as a sci-fi it doesn't.
I thought the book was well laid out. I got the impression Laylah Roberts knew exactly where she was planning to take the story because everything wrapped up extremely neatly in the end. I was highly satisfied with the conclusion. I'd definitely read another of her paranormal romance stories. I give this one a 4.5/5.
This book drew me in right away. The story telling was good. I liked the story over all but there wasn’t quiet enough details. I get this was probably on purpose for the other series and I’ll read those so I get the answers I want. And like any other female lead I wanted to reach in the story & slap her a few times to knock some sense into her.
I received this book from netgalley.com for a honest review.
I have to say I don't read SciFi, if this qualifies. I enjoyed the author's writing and character development. I really liked heroine, Lauren. The three some scenes, well, kinda freaked me out when the guys would scream. I'd head for the door! No guy screaming, please, groan, moan, go unintelligible just don't ruin it with him screaming! She did a good job with the ending. I'll probably look for another book by Ms. Roberts, but this time will pray for a seamless read.
This was a super start to a new series. It was a fun read that held my interest throughout I liked Lauren, Talin and Malik they were wonderful characters and they had lots of chemistry and you cannot help but want these three to make it work this had a great storyline and I am looking forward to the rest of the series
I would have given this a higher score if not for the horrible editing. Whoever is the proofreader/editor should be fired. The story and characters were interesting but bogged down by the bad grammatical mistakes. Shame because it was a story with potential.
A Mate to Cherish – A dying race with sins to atone for work as bounty hunters in space bringing criminals to justice. Lauren may be a thief, but returning her to her brother would be less than just. Now this little band of brothers have to fight for a future and prove they have learned from their pasts. Happy Reading!
Awesome story, plot line. I loved the kinkiness and the detailed univers and planets . The characters come beautifully together and Laylah is great at keeping you curious. The only issue is the spelling mistakes. Unfortunately they are annoying, but thankfully they are just a handful
Amazing storytelling, just when you think you have everything figured out in this one it all changes. When a woman get put on the auction block she figures all is lost. Little does she know that it's all just started
Fantastic story, strong characters, wonderful humorous scenes throughout the book, a good pace. This story has everything you could want in a scifi romance. There is intrigue, suspense, hot sexy scenes and romance. I would recommend this as one of her best scifi fantasy stories yet.
Wonderful characters that follow through out the series. Characters interact beautiful with each other. Great plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Love it it was new and intriguing type of love story for me at lest I’ve read other intergalactic love stories but I have to say this one was so interesting that it kept me hooked
Don't get me wrong, the story is great. The heroine has so much spunk, and the heroes are yummy. But, I don't think I've ever wanted to kick someone in the face so badly.
I read this through KU. Never read such a sexy paranormal from this author before. She tends to stick to contemporary. But I agree with another reader, this series needs to continue.
Caught unawares, Lauren is arrested and put up for a slave auction when sexy alien hunters, Tarin and Malik are sent to find her. And the chemistry between them is so intense that they have to find a way to keep their newly bonded female. So good!
Intial Thoughts 4.4.18: Quick read. Fun. Some of the dialogue was really hard to read and cringe-worthy, but overall hit all the checkboxes where it comes to enjoyable romance.
