Years ago I read A Courtesan's Guide to Getting Your Man by Celeste Bradley and Susan Donovan. (also known as Unbound) One was an Historical writer, the other Contemporary. Together they blended their expertise into a captivating tale. The book worked from the premise of present day people discovering important new insights of a person from the past. The main characters from both worlds were involved in a romance of their times and by using the discovery, our present day couple learned more about themselves, as well.
I enjoyed it immensely and wondered when the follow up novel would be released.
Well, patience is a virtue and we all have waited long enough.... because Breathless is here and it takes us on another journey of love, sensuality and discovery.
Once again we are set up with two love stories...and they are connected by an obsession...a pull to the soul...The paintings of a woman known as The Siren. They were consider scandalous for their time...A woman looking directly at you, not in full corseted clothing... with some in a chemise, loose and as if the wind was caressing her skin...And others nude...open and unashamed...
This series of 7 paintings done with only a signature The Artist, was known throughout the world as an enigma. Who was this woman, so beautiful and sensual... who was this man who she gazed at with warmth and openness... These painting told a story which no one knew but everyone wanted...
Art Professor Brenna Anderson was one those who was captivated with The Siren. She did all of her major academic work about her. She was a tenured professor at Harvard and lectured on Erotic Art. Past times had been good to her at Harvard; she had made strong connections with powerful people in the art community. However, recent times had changed and with a swing to more conservative donors and their now grown children attending her classes, she had come under pressure to restrict her subject matter.
She was lamenting her situation with an art collector and dear friend when she notices a painting she hadn't seen in the house before....As she examines the frame and stretched canvas, she recognizes something familiar...and it leads her to an amazing discovery...
Something which will give her an opportunity to finally connect with the man who has in his possession all of The Siren's work. He is obscenely wealthy and refuses to show the 7 paintings to any one. Now with this hidden knowledge and treasure, Brenna just might be able to finally see these paintings in person.
Fitch Wilder has not only seen all of The Siren's paintings in person...He was the Art Hunter who found most of them for the collector. It has been his passion finding lost art and arranging those who want it for their very own. He has worked with museums and private collectors forever...at least it seems that way...as his father was the one who started him on this path. His father at first was on the wrong side of the law but then turned things around and only worked to verify and authenticate works of art. Fitch took up the cause early and after his father's passing, he has continued to do it.
Fitch has loved the hunt... the excitement of the find and although he does not have any degree in art like Brenna, he knows exactly everything there is to know about art...He is rough around the edges... direct and a little reckless but well respected.
It is while he is working with a small museum in Paris, Fitch makes the discovery of a lifetime. In an apartment sealed since World War II, Fitch finds another painting done by The Artist...and it is there where this dual love story begins...
We are give two amazing stories which are wrapped around each other...Brenna and Fitch have past bad blood over interviews and credit regarding The Siren...and due to what each of them have learned independently...Brenna decides grudgingly to work with Fitch to find what both of them are looking for...in Catalonia, Spain.
While we are on Fitch's and Brenna's journey and their falling for each other...We are given the most captivating and detailed story of who The Siren is...and how she arrived in Catalonia. We are given her history of her life from the very beginning, her rise in England and becoming the Swan...
We also are there, seeing, watching and understanding the relationship she has with The Artist...
This part of the story is so sensual, so caring and loving...It is something very special...
I enjoyed this and both stories intertwined well. Fitch started out as a bit of a cad but Brenna was also uptight. Once each let their guard down...it was only a matter of time for them both to see how well they fit.
If you are looking for a little something different then your norm, whether you are a Historical or Contemporary reader...I suggest you give this a go. There is enough for both genres and the added benefit of art and world history done by two accomplished authors.

Two similar and yet different romances told side by side is a cute premise. The contemporary couple discovering the history of another romantic couple was interesting. I couldn’t wait to find out more about the history and potential identity of ‘The Siren’ depicted in a much sought after painting series.
The problem with having two very separate and distinct romance plot arcs happening in the same book is that I was much more interested in one story over the other. The story of how a courtesan became the love interest and muse of an unknown artist was the one which totally captured my attention. I couldn’t wait to go back to the past to learn more of her life and how she lost everything but found the love of her life.
The romance set in the present wasn’t nearly as interesting to me. I kept waiting to get back to the other story arc. The romantic push between Brenna and Fitch went a bit fast and was missing ‘something’ I can’t quite put a finger on. I liked both characters individually and saw how each complemented the other, but overall I didn’t feel a solid connection to them in comparison to the romantic couple of the past.
The story of The Siren was engaging and tragic. I connected to her character right away and loved how strong she was and how she took control of her life and made it the best she could with the resources available to her. She was really the meat of the story for me. Everything else just felt like time spent waiting to get back to her. The Swan stole my heart as well as the artists somehow.
Overall I enjoyed Breathless but I rated it a little lower because of my lack of connection to one of the main couples. I also enjoyed the hunt through Catalonia for more of the Swan stories. The scenery and people of the country seemed fantastic. It made me want to trek through Spain to see all the wonders and eat all the great food described. Plus, I imagine it would be fun to stumble into a festival and live like to locals for a time as well.

I was no longer the Swan, London’s paramount courtesan. I was simply a penniless prisoner on a merchant ship bound for parts unknown.

She was an expert on the human psycho-sexual experience. Every one of her lovers, to a man, would insist that they won Brenna through skill and dogged determination, but only because Brenna wished them to think so. In truth, she was always the seducer and never the seduced. Without exception.

Giveaway @ Let Them Read Books!
I signed up to review Breathless on impulse and then chastised myself because I needed another review commitment like I need a hole in my head, but I'm so glad I did! This will end up being one of my favorite books of the year. I'm not going to delve much into plot because the blurb does a good job of teasing you and I want everybody to be able to discover the story for themselves and savor every minute of it, like I did.
I was instantly drawn into the story with the discovery of a painting in an old Paris apartment by a handsome hunk of a cowboy who has a passion for art. Fitch's sense of amazement and excitement at finding an unknown painting in the famous Siren series was palpable, and I loved how the story of the Swan (aka the Siren) and her lover, the Artist, was teased out as Brenna and Fitch hunted down clues to her identity in the hopes of finding more paintings. And I loved watching enemies turn to lovers as these two became so wrapped up in the mystery, in the adventure, and in each other.
It's rare that I end up liking both the past and present storylines equally in a book with dual timelines. Usually the balance tips in favor of the past, but in this case I really enjoyed reading both. In both storylines the heroine is forced to reinvent herself, and I thought the Swan's rediscovery of herself particularly poignant. In order to find herself again, she had to lose everything, including her memories.
One of the best aspects of this book is the setting. Barcelona and the Catalonia coast are so atmospheric and so central to the story that the setting becomes a character itself. The lush descriptions of architecture, scenery, the simple yet delicious food, the infectious joie de vivre of the locals, the music, the dancing . . . well let's just say I HAVE to visit that region now!
There are a few little things I could quibble about in regards to the story, but I so thoroughly enjoyed it, was so swept away by the ambiance and the mystery, and was so battered by the emotional wringer (seriously, I sobbed buckets; no spoilers, but be prepared for the absolute unfairness of fate before the happily ever after) that those quibbles aren't worth detailing.
I could not put this book down, wanting desperately to see how it would all play out yet not wanting it to end. I savored the mystery and the love stories and completely lost myself in Catalonia. Breathless is a fabulous reading experience for fans of romance, art, history, and the heady magic of the Mediterranean.

I love romance, I love historical fiction, and I love mysteries set in the art world, so I wanted to read Breathless as soon as I've seen the blurb. And I am happy to say that this book did not disappoint. Sometimes I find dual timeline books hard to enjoy because I get invested in one story and one set of characters and don't really care for the other story and set of characters, but with Breathless I loved both timelines. I couldn't get enough of The Artist and his Siren's story, but I also really loved Fitch and Brenna's dynamic and their adventures. Together with Fitch and Brenna we get to travel to London, Paris and Catalonia, and discover the beautiful love story behind mysterious Siren collection. If you are looking for a romantic story with a dash of mystery and a picturesque setting, make sure to pick up Breathless!

I enjoyed this book as something different, yet still satisfying as a romance. It is divided into past (1827-ish) and present (current day). I picked it up with few expectations, having only tried a couple of Celeste Bradley’s audiobooks and nothing by Susan Donovan before. Bradley is a Historical Romance author, typically focused on the Regency period, and Donovan is a contemporary romance writer. So, I assume the past timeline was written by Bradley and the present was by Donovan. The premise centers on a series of paintings called the Siren series by an unknown artist. The present day timeline attempts to unravel the mystery of the paintings, and the past is about their creation.
Their are two romances, one for past and present, and I found the present-day romance more satisfying and would consider it the primary. Brenna is a Sociology professor at Harvard, with a focus on sexology. She wrote her thesis on the Siren paintings and is irked that she is not allowed to view them in person. Fitch is an Art treasure hunter and assessor of sorts (not sure exactly how to describe his occupation). He has found the latest Siren painting discovered and is Brenna’s adversary. It is great enemies to lovers dynamic between these two. As Brenna discovers some clues to the identity of the Siren, the two end up needing to work together to find out more. I really enjoyed the present day romance and wanted to read more of them. I would have been happy if the story had just focused on their journey. The romance was a slow build, and Fitch was a great a hero. He was funny, sexy, and vulnerable and a great match for Brenna.
The past sections were told from the POV of the Siren, who was a former courtesan in London. She was highly sought after, and the first few chapters focus on her time as a courtesan. I had trouble connecting with her as a character. The courtesan chapters were more “in your face” featuring quite a bit of sex, and they were my least favorite. To be fair, I don’t think it was meant to show her as an overly likable character and was intended to show her transformation. To that end, I enjoyed the later “past” chapters better than the early ones. This book is a sequel, which I did not realize but had no trouble following.
Overall, this was an entertaining read. The anticipation for the mystery and the present day romance had me excited to read it. I will checking out the first in the series as soon as I can.

This is a story within a story.
Brenna and Fitch are professional rivals but now they have come together to find the history of the woman in the famous Siren Series. As a result, they hope to find any remaining portraits of the Siren.
This couple were instantly attracted to each other but Brenna is holding a grudge about some of the actions Fitch has taken in the past. With a history of untrustworthy men, she’s not open to a relationship with him. Fitch is drawn to her in every way and would love to see her let go of her professor persona and live free.
Inside Brenna and Fitch’s story is the story of the Swan, her expulsion from Europe and her rescue by her Artist. As this couple track the Swan’s history they find themselves growing closer together, sometimes their emotions mirroring that of the woman that they are hunting.
I must confess that I enjoyed the Swan’s love story more so than Fitch and Brenna’s. The Swan’s background is steep in emotion. The chemistry between her and her artist palpable. Their pasts so very heart wrenching and their love the perfect balm to heal them both.
This is a relatively fast paced read, but I must confess to skimming some due to a lot of travel guide-ish commentary. This is a me issue as I’m not a fan of in-depth descriptions of locales or historical sites. There is a heavy emphasis on art that I did enjoy as it dealt mainly with the issue this couple were working on. Secondary characters hold their own, never taking over the story but pushing it along onto the path each of the main characters needed to get to their happy ending.

This is a story within a story.
Brenna and Fitch are professional rivals but now they have come together to find the history of the woman in the famous Siren Series. As a result, they hope to find any remaining portraits of the Siren.
This couple were instantly attracted to each other but Brenna is holding a grudge about some of the actions Fitch has taken in the past. With a history of untrustworthy men, she’s not open to a relationship with him. Fitch is drawn to her in every way and would love to see her let go of her professor persona and live free.
Inside Brenna and Fitch’s story is the story of the Swan, her expulsion from Europe and her rescue by her Artist. As this couple track the Swan’s history they find themselves growing closer together, sometimes their emotions mirroring that of the woman that they are hunting.
I must confess that I enjoyed the Swan’s love story more so than Fitch and Brenna’s. The Swan’s background is steep in emotion. The chemistry between her and her artist palpable. Their pasts so very heart wrenching and their love the perfect balm to heal them both.
This is a relatively fast paced read, but I must confess to skimming some due to a lot of travel guide-ish commentary. This is a me issue as I’m not a fan of in-depth descriptions of locales or historical sites. There is a heavy emphasis on art that I did enjoy as it dealt mainly with the issue this couple were working on. Secondary characters hold their own, never taking over the story but pushing it along onto the path each of the main characters needed to get to their happy ending.
Overall, this was a very pleasant read and it made me curious about any previous books that might form a series.

This is two love stories set in two different times, connected by a painting – the sixth and previously unknown painting of a lady who has become know as the Siren. The stories of the two eras are told, sharing the present day search to identify the Siren and what actually happened to her.
Starting in 1827 with the lady who calls herself “the Swan” being washed up on a rocky beach, the story of how she meets and connects with the Artist is emotively described. She has nothing, not even a name but he is a driven, tortured man and their time together was limited, it was beautiful and portrayed in his art work as she became his muse and his siren.
Fitch Wilder has been employed to verify the works of art willed to museums and art galleries. He’s the person who discovers the sixth painting of the siren and this is different to the others as she’s obviously pregnant in it. For years he and art professor Brenna Anderson have been antagonistic but the quest to discover the Siren causes them to work together, helping them discover the Swan’s real history and more about themselves both individually and as a couple.
With its mix of historical and contemporary romance, together with the added mystery to be solved, this is an engaging and enthralling story with great characters, an intertwining plot and plenty of surprises along the way!

Breathless by Celeste Bradley; Susan Donovan is the story of Brenna Anderson and Fitch Wilder.
This book besides having two great authors it also has parallel stories with one in the present and one in the past. The present story is dealing with Brenna a college professor needing a help with her career takes her on a path to follow a painting that leads her to Fitch. Fitch deals in fine arts and he too wants the Siren Series paintings.
While reading their story we also read about The Swan / courtesan who is taken in by the Artist. I must say their story was my favorite.
Overall I really enjoyed this book an hope to read more by these two authors.

This co-writing is very pleasant to read. The two stories are individually nice to read and both couples are cute.
It’s been about ten years since I read my last historical romance and I enjoyed the historical part very much. The contemporary story has good suspense.

I´m so lucky, lately all my requests at Netgalley have been accepted, which means I get to read my favorite writers for free. Can get it better than that? Yes, it can, and it does. Because, even if it is one of your favorite authors, it does not means you like the book. But, I´m that lucky, not only I get to read them for free, I also enjoyed them. And Breathless, its no different. I like it very much.
Not only was well written, its plot didn´t have holes. Even with several small intertwined stories, it was never confusing.
The Swan and her Artiste certainly deserved more time together, but the time that they did have together was beautifullly enjoyed.
Brenna and Fitch were perfect together, and their search made them found not only the Swan´s real history, but theirselves. as individuals and as a couple. Whatelse could they ask for?

3.5 stars rounded up being nice. Usually I would keep a 4-star read on my shelf for a re-read, this one I enjoyed but would not read again.
A Harvard art professor and an art hunter (I think the author tried for an Indiana Jones type?) reluctantly team up to find out about the artist and his muse for a series of sensual nude paintings from the 19th century. Their research leads them from London to Catalonia, Spain. While these two sort out their differences, the reader learns about the story of the artist and his love in early 1800.
We are treated to two love stories in one book, so there is not much time for the story(s) to get boring while we are participating in an interesting treasure hunt and the life of a prison born child in 1800 London.
I found the book well written yet didn’t get emotional involved in the love stories, even though there was chemistry between the protagonists. I am not sure what was missing in the writing style to keep me fairly unattached. Still enjoyed the story, though.
Narrative: 3rd person POV mostly female protagonist in the present, 1st person POV female protagonist in the past
Sexual content: couple of scenes fairly descriptive
Swear language: very unnecessary regular use of the f-word, by a Harvard professor and a Billionaire businessman, no less.

I’ve been a fan of Celeste Bradley’s for many years, so when I received an invitation from the publisher, via Net-Galley, to read and review, I eagerly accepted. The opinions expressed in my review are my own and unbiased in any way.
Breathless is an intriguing story with compelling characters. The pacing is steady and kept my interest from the beginning to the end. As I expected, the authors weave a tale full of mystery and intrigue with a dash of suspense.
The “Swan” is where the mystery lies. She is very intriguing, and her backstory pulled at my heartstrings. I’m glad she found true love; she deserved it! Brenna Anderson’s character was a bit of a challenge for me, but overall, I did like her, and I’m glad she found her happy ending as well.
While I never had a chance to really get into the “Artist’s” head, what I learned of him told me he was a true hero and a romantic. Fitch Wilder’s character came across as a bit shady in the beginning, but he grew on me as the story progressed.
The romance between the “Swan and the “Artist” is poignant and has real depth. I must admit, I teared up several times. Brenna and Fitch definitely have chemistry and raw passion, but their love came across as a bit shaky to me, more a happy for now then everlasting.
While I could not give Breathless 5 Gold Crowns, it is a very strong 4 and is a delight to read. I’m glad I had a chance to read it and highly recommend it to readers who love a good mystery with plenty of intrigue. Happy reading!

I was quite excited when I was invited to read this book because I was interested to read how the authors were going to merge the two differing perspective between the perspective of the ‘The Swan’ in the past (Regency England-ish) and Brenna who is in the present. These two ladies are our protagonists for this book. It also helped that the book was sold to me as a mystery book with a huge whollop of romance.
After reading it, I have to say that my feelings are mixed regarding this book. Not that it isn’t good, no, the problem here lies with me. I just came to realize that contemporary romance just isn’t my thing. This realization hit me whenever I am reading the third person POV for Brenna’s part of the story, my eyes just glaze over and internally I am just praying that it will be over soon but when I read the historical romance aspect of the book which was written in the first person narrative, there just wasn’t enough material for me to read and I would be wholly disappointed that I had to return to reading about Brenna.
For me, Brenna’s romance with Fitch Wilder was so boring. Boring because of the predictability of it and how fast Brenna fell in love with Fitch, maybe it was longer than I give it credit for in the book but to me it felt like she fell in love with the guy within two weeks because the time lapse between them first meeting to when they fell in love felt so short but then again I am really bad at keeping track of the time anyway so this point is up for debate.
There was nothing for me to root for between these two characters and when Fitch admitted to lying to Brenna and her freaking out and their make up I just felt like ‘Jeez woman, just get over it’. Yes, this lying thing that Fitch did hit a raw nerve because of Brenna’s past and her estranged father but I just could not relate and in all honesty I gave zero shit but had the exposition or reasoning for her freak out been more fleshed out then maybe I would have given her the benefit of the doubt.
All in all I felt like the Brenna and Fitch aspect of the book was just not for me as it was predictable and boring but I live for parts of the book that was in ‘The Swan’s’ POV. Parts of the book which was written in her POV which was in the past was so interesting and dynamic and full of life and intrigue and mystery. The start of the book opened to her literally half-drowning in the ocean in the middle of nowhere so you are like what is going on????? Is she going to be okay?
‘The Swan’s’ POV was just SO good! She had to do many a different things back in her day to survive and prosper and prosper she did. She overcame so many hardships in her life that by the time she met a nice man on this island and was genuinely happy you couldn’t help but be so happy for her as well but the ending of her part of the book just KILLED ME DAMN IT!
The ending left me with a book hangover. I just could not get over it because why? Why would you do that to her? After all she went through that woman deserves eternal happiness!
So, yeah that sums my review.

Boring because of the predictability of it and how fast Brenna fell in love with Fitch, maybe it was longer than I give it credit for in the book but to me it felt like she fell in love with the guy within two weeks because the time lapse between them first meeting to when they fell in love felt so short but then again I am really bad at keeping track of the time anyway so this point is up for debate.
There was nothing for me to root for between these two characters and when Fitch admitted to lying to Brenna and her freaking out and their make up I just felt like ‘Jeez woman, just get over it’. Yes, this lying thing that Fitch did hit a raw nerve because of Brenna’s past and her estranged father but I just could not relate and in all honesty I gave zero shit but had the exposition or reasoning for her freak out been more fleshed out then maybe I would have given her the benefit of the doubt.
All in all I felt like the Brenna and Fitch aspect of the book was just not for me as it was predictable and boring but I live for parts of the book that was in ‘The Swan’s’ POV. Parts of the book which was written in her POV which was in the past was so interesting and dynamic and full of life and intrigue and mystery. The start of the book opened to her literally half-drowning in the ocean in the middle of nowhere so you are like what is going on????? Is she going to be okay?
‘The Swan’s’ POV was just SO good! She had to do many a different things back in her day to survive and prosper and prosper she did. She overcame so many hardships in her life that by the time she met a nice man on this island and was genuinely happy you couldn’t help but be so happy for her as well but the ending of her part of the book just KILLED ME DAMN IT!
The ending left me with a book hangover. I just could not get over it because why? Why would you do that to her? After all she went through that woman deserves eternal happiness!
So, yeah that sums my review.

I liked this book, even if it was about the plot than the characters, their romance and their eventual interaction. I was totally captivated by the story that was going on in the past so I was slightly disappointed but in the end it was a good and enjoyable reading.

Breathless by both Celeste Bradley and Susan Donovan is a book unlike any other. A contemporary romance that brings a story about erotic art paintings to life. In this story, I got to learn more about this modern like art that would appear to be just sexual in form to me. But to those who really know art, it really wasn't about the sex appeal. It was more than just that. That's where an academic woman scholar and a sexy male art hunter come together to find out more about The Swan paintings. These paintings have a story that needs telling. The art portraits themselves, sound so appealing and realistic that it was like being there seeing and experiencing what the characters got to experience firsthand.
Breathless is more than just a sexy romance that burrowed deep into my skin. It caught my attention and held it fast. The journey from the present to the past of the woman courtesan, who was painted as The Swan, was a woman who lived many lives. She had to find herself and that happened when she found and fell in love with the male painter. Following her historical journey from England to the Americas was fascinating. I felt disinterested as first, but after learning more, I could not stop reading.
The modern cast of characters include Brenna Anderson. She's clever, gorgeous, and talented. Her former lover is an idiot and loses her by his betrayal. Then, there's the work issues about the subject of art that Brenna is teaching to her students. Some parents who fund the art program were complaining about her choices. Brenna wanted to tell them to stick their opinions...but the university has its hands tied. And that is where her life journey begins...chasing after a portrait that may link The Swan series and letters to the life of the woman whose protairt is the talk of the century. But she might have to work with a man who defies what she normally trusts.
Fitch Wilder is the next modern day character who makes this a lot of fun to read. He was vibrant, sexy as hell, and adventurous. Sometimes he broke the rules but finding out more on the identity of the woman in The Swan painting was worth the risks. Even if the led him to the fiery yet most engaging woman he has ever met...Professor Brenna Anderson.
The Courtesean in the paintings somehow has brought two modern people together. Finding a love tha burns as deeply as the one she experienced. Love, sex, history, and art are all found in this epic tale. A journey of survival, loss, and new beginnings. I loved it. Overall, I would recommend this novel to all readers. It was the best thing that I have read in a long time.

I finished Breathless ages ago and I have been so swamped with work that I did not have time to actually sit down and pen this review for all of you.
I know!
I am terrible, but sadly work comes first because I am not lucky enough to be paid to read books all day long (Willing to accept job offers with that specific description!)
I have read books from Celeste before; but to be honest, I do not think I have read some of Susan's work (I could be mistaken) but I need to go play catch up and read more from both authors.
But tell you what though, the name of this book is aptly chosen!
When I finished it, I was floored!
Outstanding and even saying that I do not think this word actually does the book justice!

Me saying all of this doesn't help so let me tell you more...
In Breathless, we are following 2 couples in 2 different timelines...
In modern times, we have Brenna and Fitch and in the historical one, we get to know The Swan and her man The Artist.
The story starts and is centered around a series of works of art and we go on an amazing journey from there. We are looking at the story from those 2 timelines and tell you what, the writing and storytelling are utterly glorious!
I will tell you, there are moments as I was reading where I was getting strong Robert Langdon vibes and that was an added bonus for me. Breathless is an adventure.
Pretty much a treasure hunt wrapped in a romance.
I could not put it down and finished reading in one go.
It is smart, witty, touching, sad and beautiful all at the same time, and there are a couple of times where I could not help myself tearing up a little bit.
I am trying very hard here not give discuss plot points and not give you spoilers, because honestly, I would not want to take the pleasure of discovering everything with a fresh eye away from you.
Breathless is in a league of its own, and I do not think I have read anything quite like it in a while. The more I think about it, the more I want another, I would never say no to Brenna and Fitch going on researching other mysteries. I would require the first book if that was to ever happen.

I received Breathless by Celeste Bradley and Susan Donovan by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. This is a past/present story that intertwines two romances and their growth.
In the past, The Swan was a premier London Courtesan until she took the wrong man as a lover. Kidnapped and forced onto a ship, she is at a loss of what to do. When a storm takes control, she ends up on Spain's coast hurt and with no past. She is taken in, and taken care of, by The Artist, who is himself a tortured soul fighting with guilt.
In the present, Art Professor Brenna Anderson is about to lose her position at Harvard for angering the wrong family. At a loss on how to regain her career, she sets out to uncover the secrets of a series of paintings known as the Siren Collection. She runs into Fitch Wilder (great name!) who is looking for more paintings for his collector buyer as well as attempting to answer the questions of who is she and who is the artist. Teaming up, the step into a culture that forces them to take a second look at each other and the attraction they have for one another.
Bradley and Donovan has done a wonderful job at drawing the reader in. With rich detail about the Coast of Spain, architect, and history, you can't help but be drawn in. This story is a continuation of their book, A Courtesan's Guide to Getting Your Man, but I have not read it so it is easy to fall into this story.
Brenna attempt to not be attracted to Fitch underlines her struggle with attachment. It strikes me that Fitch was attracted to Brenna immediately and is just buying his time until Brenna acknowledge her attraction to him. The only thing I really didn't like was that Brenna was the one to apologize both times issues arose between them and I felt that Fitch should have taken credit for a portion of the misunderstanding at least. But he never did really and also Brenna's back story was never really dealt with. It took up a paragraph but other than that, I just thought she was modern women disillusioned with men in general.
The true love affair for me was between The Swan and The Artist. Two lost persons that find each other and heal each other. A wonderful story that was the heart and soul of the story. The ending for them made me wail like Brenna and forced me to acknowledge that HEAs are not guaranteed so value every minute you have. The fact that the story really continues makes me want to read more about their future. I loved almost every minute of reading and look forward to the next story from them. #Breathless #NetGalley

Celeste Bradley and Susan Donovan are both masters in their respective romance genres and I have greatly enjoyed their work. I had never imagined that they would get together to create such a masterpiece. A romance so unique that I can easily say that it is one of the best romances that I have read this year and I will not be forgetting it any time soon.

This is one sweeping romance.
It spans centuries and continents, combining past and present couples and how their stories intertwine. I literally could not put this down, once I started reading it I devoured it in couple of hours. I could just sit here and rehash the whole story, but I truly do not want to give away plot points and the mystery of the Siren and who painted her. I think the story was laid out expertly and I could not tell this was written by two people. I loved both couples and their journeys as individuals and as couples. The switching between time periods was done seamlessly also. I loved that the story had me feeling so many things, and crap have a box of tissues ready, I cried like a baby in part of the book. The ending was a nice come full circle feel. My one question was there a book before this one featuring Brenna's friend Piper? They way it was written it seemed so, I will have to research it.

Review:
This is one sweeping romance.
It spans centuries and continents, combining past and present couples and how their stories intertwine. I literally could not put this down, once I started reading it I devoured it in couple of hours. I could just sit here and rehash the whole story, but I truly do not want to give away plot points and the mystery of the Siren and who painted her. I think the story was laid out expertly and I could not tell this was written by two people. I loved both couples and their journeys as individuals and as couples. The switching between time periods was done seamlessly also. I loved that the story had me feeling so many things, and crap have a box of tissues ready, I cried like a baby in part of the book. The ending was a nice come full circle feel. My one question was there a book before this one featuring Brenna's friend Piper? They way it was written it seemed so, I will have to research it.

What a unique book! With two utterly romantic tales, each set in a different time period, readers will love how the stories intertwine and draw you in. When I have read books like these in the past, I usually find myself skipping one of the two perspectives, because I'm only interested in one couple and not the other. However, I was completely hooked on both couples and wanted to know how their storied ended. These two authors did an amazing job collaborating and creating a book that will thrill romance readers of multiple genres!
It's 1827 and a woman washes up on the shores of Spain, with no memory of who she is or how she came to be there. Saved by a humble painter and cared for in his home, she finds herself falling in love with the life she could have, if given the chance.
Fast forward to 2018 and a new painting by the infamous Le Artiste has been discovered. Two rival art historians are trying to discover the truth, and as they team up to find answers, their rivalry soons turns into a love that surpasses all expectations.
I kept the above summary simple, because there was so much detail that could give away the story! I would rather whet your appetite than give you too much too soon. The beauty of this story is in the discovery as you read through each page. The woman with amnesia and her heartbreaking history, the painter who lives in exile and dreams of freedom from his past, the cursed-in-love sociology professor who wants to make her mark on the world, and the charming yet dignified art hunter who finds the beauty in everything. These are the characters you will discover in this book, and you will fall in love with each and every one of them. I laughed when they laughed, I cried when they cried, and that is when you know you have a good book in your hands.
Let's hope these two authors collaborate again soon! This was definitely a match made in heaven for these two gifted writers.

For some reason, this book just did not work for me. The story of the Swan and the Siren series of paintings was fascinating. The Swan’s romance with the artist who did the Siren paintings while in Catalonia was a fascinating read. How the Swan got to Catalonia was also a fascinating read. However, I was not really enthralled with the romance between Art Professor Brenna Anderson and Fitch Wilder, who searched for and authenticated works of art. Both the Brenna and Fitch were searching for further information on the Swan, who, they believed, was the subject of a Siren series and possibly additional, lost paintings in the series. Though, they both knew of one another, they had not met until their paths crossed in this search. Because they were after the same end, they joined forces (sort of), though a strong element of mistrust, especially on the part of the professor, continued. Their romance seemed inevitable from the start, though I knew it would prove to be somewhat rocky.
The story was interesting, though it did not grab or hold my attention as well as other romances have. I do not know what it was about the story that never did grab me. I just know nothing ever did. A new painting in the mysterious Siren collection is discovered in a dusty old house in France, by art hunter, Fitch Wilder. After testing he discovers there may be more paintings than previously believed.
Art Professor Brenna Anderson has studied the Siren series at length. She is determined to view the Siren series, but they are kept by a private art collector who refuses to grant her permission to view them. With her career in jeopardy she finds a clue to the identity of the mysterious model and sets out to unravel the mystery.
Reluctantly joining forces Brenna and Fitch set out on to discover a centuries old mystery.
Interspersed in Brenna and Fitch’s story is the tale of the Swan. The model in the Siren series. Once London's premiere courtesan she is now the subject of a scorned wife’s revenge. Thrown overboard by pirates she wakes up with no memory of her earlier life and is saved by a man known only as The Artist.
Celeste Bradley and Susan Donovan combine their talents to create a compelling and riveting read. One is a historical writer, the other a contemporary writer. The intertwining of two separate stories is masterfully done. While Brenna and Fitch are the main source of romance in this book, the mystery of The Swan is beautifully told and so engaging. It’s full of twists and turns that keep you hooked until the end. It is a story that remains with you long after you have finished reading.
I haven’t read anything quite like this before and I anxiously await any further offerings from these two master wordsmiths.
