Bounty hunter Bodie Kendrick is on the job again.
Only this time around (in the fifth book of the series), Bodie isn't intent on bringing bad guys to justice. Instead it's his job is to protect Tyrone Avery, a man fresh out of jail and with a $50,000 price on his head.
Avery is the target of a man with a thirst for vengeance and his money is attracting a horde of hunters, chief among them Blue Tom Iverson, a tough man of Kendrick's acquaintance--a man who has often walked a narrow line between good and bad.
Taking a rugged path through the mountains to evade Iverson and his crew, Kendrick and Avery stumble onto another hornet's nest--remnants of the Lansing outlaw gang. Kendrick isn't immediately aware of it, but Telford Lansing, leader of the gang, has been taken into custody by a marshal and temporarily held in a small, nearby town where he and Avery are headed. Telford's brother Leon and the gang have plans to raid the town and free the prisoner.
The story bristles with action from the start. There's more to come, along with some unexpected twists and turns. As always is the case in a Dundee western tale, the characters are complex and well-drawn, the plot is riveting and the descriptions so accurate you smell the dust and feel the bite of cactus needles.
If you have yet to read a Bodie Kendrick story, you owe it to yourself to grab one now. And this is as good a place to start as any. Trust me, you'll want to read the rest, too.
