This was a lighthearted, fun and funny read—though my experience was definitely improved because I saw the anime first, meaning I was able to read the interactions in the characters’ voices.
When I started watching the anime, I was taken by surprise by how much I liked it, since I usually tend to be a fan of more serious fantasy animes. However, I’m drawn to Saiki K because it’s just so meta, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and hilariously pokes fun at itself/breaks the 4th wall—all of which translates well both in anime and manga form. This is actually the first anime I watched subbed instead of dubbed, since they never dubbed Season 2 and I liked Season 1 so much that I made the subbed plunge (still prefer the dubbed though, sorry not sorry).
Art style is just ok right now—sometimes a little messy, or way too overdone on the visual gags (wtf was going on with Nendou’s face in some panels???)—but it looks like it improves in later volumes.
I loved the translators notes as well, it helped to explain some jokes that didn’t translate as well in English as well as provide some hilarious backstory and puns behind certain characters’ names.
This is the prequel to the main series explaining a lot of things about Saiki's abilities and it was definitely lots of fun. Despite saying that everything is annoying, Saiki is a really thoughtful person especially with his "friends." But this volume felt like work. I enjoyed watching the first episodes of Saiki K, so I'm testing if it's funnier when watching or reading. I'll give the first volume first a try before deciding, or maybe I will definitely just watch.
This is the prequel (#0) volume of the manga series called The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (I read it in English in an unauthorized translation, but no authorized translation exists.)
The narrator goes step by step through his different ESP powers (he's an "esper"), complaining the whole time about how it's more a curse than a blessing. An interesting premise.
It's also amusing, though apparently the translators omit most of the wordplay. (That might be for the better. An alternate translation of the series is The DiPSIster of Esper Saiki Kusuo, punning on "Disaster" and "Psi" very awkwardly.)
This volume mainly just explains some of Saiki's powers and establishes a few of the main characters who will show up later. It was entertaining and funny, I love Saiki to bits and pieces but the artwork definitely needs some improvement. If I hadn't watched the AMAZING anime before, I'm not sure I would give this series a go based on this volume.
It’s an alright manga so far, the story’s a bit dull and the arts pretty good and I kinda like the main character so far! I have high hopes for this manga so I hope it gets better ^.^🤔😁❤️❤️
2☆: I absolutely adore the anime but the manga just isn’t working for me, theres just something about the art style and the storyline than the anime did way better
The start was interesting but it was not enough to hook me into finishing the series. Given that I greatly enjoyed the anime, I might actually have something to look forward to.
