I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A novel set in the world of harness racing in the early 19990's. A harness racer gets out of the pen. His wife is a harness racer, too, and she isn't there to pick him up. Instead, his violent sidekick picks him up, and the two are promptly stopped by a cop, and the sidekick arrested on gun charges.

It turns out, that the harness racer has something on a mafia family, the family that bore his wife.

Very 90's, in attitude. Reads like something from right before the Men's Adventure genre collapsed. An interesting time capsule.

The book is the story of Michael Butler who is serving in prison in NY statue and has a famous wife Sophia, who is the biggest start in harness horse racing action in America. Michael is faced with the challenge, wherein he is offered a deal to ask his wife to come to Yonkers Raceway in NY, so her star popularity can be misused and as a result Michael will be released from prison.
The plot is good based on theme of love with other elements surrounding it deception, violence, action, greed. The characters develop as the book unfolds and it gabs the attention with all drama and events. This is the first book I have read in series and I did not feel anything I really missed.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down. Michael Butler is released from prison and wants to reunite with his wife Sophia and continue his harness racing career. With family, organized crime and the FBI all involved it makes for a very interesting read. Loved the book and can't wait to read more from this author.

A satisfying ending to a well written saga, Jate's Boy has all the action and intrigue of the previous 3 books. I really think if this author could get a better editor he'd be able to make some real money with these books. I have highly enjoyed them all, and #4 may be the best one of all.
