The Northern English Moors had seen many a summer since Ernst von Aichelburg, son of the late Count, had come to Wilding Manor. Raised to a man beside the Lady Valeria Grey, both were certain their lives would be spent together…
A Shattered Dream…
Soon to make her debut into society, not a day had passed that Lady Valeria Grey, daughter of the Earl of Harwood hadn’t dreamed of finally seeking a husband of the handsome Viscount von Aichelburg. But when Ernst is recalled home by the threat of war between Germany and England, Valeria is forced to watch as her dreams crumble at her feet…
A Traitor’s Death…
But when news arrives that Henry, Valeria’s beloved brother, faces charges of treason and the firing squad, Valeria is forced to put aside her past if she is to save him. Knowing well that if Ernst and Henry meet each other on the battlefield the result will be unbearable, Valeria gathers every ounce of courage she has to clear her brother's name and stop the man she loves from ripping her heart in two.
Is love powerful enough to repel the fires of war?
Or will Lady Valeria be forced to watch as all she loves burns in the flames?
This was a nice read about the difficulties of love in times of war. Maybe it was a bit short. I wouldn't mind a bit more eleborations and a bit more time to really get acquainted with the main characters. But apart from that, I really enjoyed it! I received a copy and chose to review it.
I was quite impressed by Jasmine Ashford's latest offering. The story originates in Yorkshire, England at the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars, but soon the action and intrigue moves to Germany and France with British troops on the Eastern Front. This is the first time I have read of Napoleonic conflict from this perspective, complete with the Enlightened Ones/ Illuminati fighting for liberty/equality/fraternity. This is a romance, but much more. My greatest interest was in the struggle of personal ideals and honor over duty to country and family. How appropriate even now.
I highly recommend A Gentleman's Challenge, especially at the bargain price. (I used my Kindle Unlimited membership.) Enjoy!
I enjoyed this book from Jasmine Ashford. I was drawn to the characters and their struggles of balancing love and duty to their country. Valeria was such a strong heroine traveling to save her brother in time of war. It makes you wonder how many women were in this same position. The harshness of the prisons and the hopelessness of survival add some much to the sorrrows of war depicted in this story. This was in contrast to the strong love bonds between Valeria and Ernst and Henry and Claudia. Of course who doesn't love the HEA. Purchase this book to enjoy this Regency Romantic story. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Ernst comes to England and lives with the Greys until his father dies, then he has to go back to Germany. Valeria is the daughter of the Earl of Harwood and has fallen in love with Ernst. Henry Grey, is Valeria's brother but is also in the military and is sent to Germany. Napoleon was rearing his head. Enchanting tale but a lot happens. The author has taken many strands and made them into a cohesive and well moving book.I enjoyed reading about Valeria's trip to Germany, looking for Ernst and Henry. The step by step journey and her fears, because she did it alone. I think you will love this and hope it entertains you like it did me.
The first in a new series, this novella has a plot that races along at breakneck speed. At times a little to quick for me to keep up! Set against the Napoleonic Wars in Germany, the several different plotlines are resolved in a very short time. I think it took me just over 30 minutes to finish the story. I think such interesting characters deserve more time to get to know them. The next book will be longer so hopefully the characters will feel more developed. Valerian shows a lot of courage for a woman of her time and it would have been nice to get to know her better. An interesting story but just over too quickly for me
The Gentleman's Challenge by Jasmine Ashford is a clean historical romance. This is a story of love that grows as the main characters grow up together. There is much going on in the story. There is young love, war, standing up for what you believe, heart ache and so much more. The story line is good, the story is well written and the characters are developed. It is a fast, easy read. I have read several books by Jasmine Ashford and plan to read many more. I did receive an ARC and voluntarily read and gave my honest, fair review.
THE GENTLEMAN'S CHALLENGE by Jasmine Ashford. There is action, adventure, romance and so much more. I laughed, cried, despaired, and felt one with a characters. It was vague in parts. But all in all it is a good story and part of a series. It does have a happy ending. Thanks
This book is the first in a new series of Jasmine Ashford and it can be read as stand alone. This is a fantastic book full of love, surprise and where the main characters fight for the true love. The story is well written and will entertainment you until the last page. You will love this story!
A story of love and romance. Love overcomes the difficulties the characters face. The characters could have been a little more developed. But still it is a nice read.
About a match between a daughter of an English Earl and a German Count that is disrupted by Napoleon who has captured Germany. They are forced apart due to the war. I still enjoyed the different story of that time.
A soldier who does not believe in his war can be a problem for himself and his country. When he falls in love with a spy, he is labeled a traitor. But what is really behind the charges?
Valeria is in love with her fathers ward, the half English half German Ernst only to be separated from him due to his fathers illness and Napoleans machinations. An interesting story to start the series.
I love this very sweet and romantic story!! So very glad to know that hopefully even in those days where you were born did not matter, I truly recommend this beautiful story!!
This was a light, entertaining read. Well written with a touch of danger, loving and surprises. I look forward to reading more of the series. Give it a try. Great author!
