From USA Today Bestselling Author comes an epic journey of survival and hope from the ashes of world war and apocalypse."The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."Nineteen years have passed since a nuclear world war wiped out the United States, leaving nothing but charred and ruined cities. Out of the ashes, small pockets of survivors banded together to forge new societies in the few areas not ravaged by the nuclear holocaust. One community has not only risen but thrived. Known as The Collective, they pride themselves on an orderly system of government with a functioning infrastructure. The citizenry owe their success to their founder, The Number One, who presides over them with an iron fist. Life in The Collective centers on contribution and purpose. All are assigned responsibilities and if one cannot fulfill them, they are cast out. The most coveted but dangerous responsibility is that of a driver. Drivers ride the lonely and barren roads scavenging and exploring the outer reaches. Over the years only one has emerged as a legend and his name is Driver 8.

I've found another outstanding author writing the type of stories I'm always on the hunt for. Driver 8 is an outstanding read - vivid Post Apocalyptic world intricately weaved into the wasteland of various individuals and groups trying to survive. I'm now a huge fan of Author G. Michael Hopf. I've been a fiend of post Apocalyptic, lawless wasteland, futuristic survival fiction for many years.some of my all time favorites are Lucas Bale, Sam Sisivath, Nick Cole and now G.Michael Hopf has been added to my list of authors to follow and support.
I started and finished this book in one day. There was no way I could walk way away from this story. While reading, I thought I wouldn't read the next one because I didn't want what I read stuck in my head. That's not going to happen. The story line is just too good. Best book I've read in a long time.
I would recommend this book. The protagonist made some pretty serious errors in character judgement, but I see why the author had to do that. Make him a little stupid, I mean. It made me almost stop reading. But, I will read the next in the series.
I really enjoyed this book. I read it on Kindle. There were a few errors in the book. Not sure if that is from the transfer to Kindle or the author. Either way the book was great.
This book was full of action and twists and turns. Great characters that you don't want to give up on. Heart pounding suspense. I didn't want to put it down. Exciting and interesting. Do yourself a favor and read this story.
I started reading this book not realizing it was first in a series. I wondered why I was so close to the end with no visible resolution approaching. Good book with a couple of twists but I don't do series books so I guess I'll never know what happened...bummer!
Excellent book, can’t wait to see where it goes. Driver 8 is the man, hardened but still human. He has s code and taking care of people is still a priority when humanity has devolved into degenerates and slavers. Looking forward to book 2.
If you want a non stop action packed ride, this book is for you. This book grabs you by the guts and the feels, so enjoy the hero and hate the bad guys!
A good concept but not the best execution. The world building was interesting and I was interested in Driver Eight but the writing is pretty mediocre, enough that I couldn't finish it. DNF at 30%.
