In his attempt to escape the seductive and primal grasp of the street life to be with the woman he loves, Black Pearl faces mayhem, betrayal and a series of murders. will he be able to get out of this way of life, alive? Or will he carelessly take himself and the ones he love to the point of no return?
From beginning to end, I could not put this book down!
Being a street lit junky, it fed my every craving for what REAL STREET LIT should provide. Complex characters that made you both love and hate them as they conquered or at least attempted to conquer their plight. Real elements of Street life and what a lot of books lack these days.... a starting point (beginning), a height of the drama (the middle) and an ending that closes and leaves you with questions. The author provided all of these elements with the tale of Black Pearl and his rise from humble beginnings to an almost menace to society.
Between the nostalgia that accompanied the setting of the late 80’s, early 90’s and the plethora of details down to what street corner they were on and what kind of car they were driving I was in heaven with this read.
The ending left room for so much more to come about so I’ll be keeping my eyes filled for a part two. However, if it never comes this was definitely strong enough to stand on its own.
Wow Bully truly went against the grain for the wrong reasons. Black Pearl was destined for greatness but allowed his environment and wrong crowd to determine his fate. I wasn't surprised that Cindy moved on but I couldn't believe she'd think things would go back to how it once was. Jaguar and Spoiler both were irking my nerves. They couldn't let go of the past and move on. Jaguar wasn't as thorough as he claimed to be because he bitched up every chance possible. I was hoping Janet wouldn't face what she had to but her determination to protect her brother created more problems. At least Marvin got a few that were responsible. Black Pearl should've handled his so called friend by tying up loose ends. I was a little skeptical about Nadia but she stuck it out with Black Pearl. Jarvis was a crazy dude. Hopefully I'll get to part 2 and see just what more occurs and if the crew is still trigger happy. #KNL
This story was very well written and executed with just the right amount of drama. Black Pearl, Marvelous, and Bully had a bright future ahead of them but ended up becoming a product of their environment environment. When jealousy, pride, egos, friend's turning into foes, and revenge come into play. It leads to a recipe for disaster. Black Pearl suffered a few losses that hardened his heart more than it already was. Marvelous was loyal and down for whatever. Bully proved that snakes don't only hiss and slither but they also have to legs and appear in human form.
This was a very good book that was recommended to me by the author. The action started from the first page, and lasted through the duration of the book. I would recommend this book to all readers. You will fall in love with Black Pearl and his crew minus Bully the sneaky snake.
This is my first book by this author and I must say it was very well written. It is everything that the streets are about. You have your friendships and loyalty but at the same time you also have some betrayal going on. I would recommend that you read this book if you haven't done so..Definitely will be reading part 2 when it comes out.
I think this book was pretty okay. It started off slow in the beginning but then it picked up throughout. The characters were developed and it flowed. I never read a book by this author and the way the book ended, I will be waiting for part 2.
This book was pure fire.. Reminds me of the times and people i grew up with. I knew the areas all to well, being from Flatbush myself. I couldn't put it down. I know it will be another book can't watch. Watch out for this author very written mr. Gillis in a true fan
