In a world where everyone was against them, they needed a Miracle. What no one had expected was to find their salvation in an abandoned town that was ready to collapse. Yet, that is exactly what happened when they moved to the town of Miracle, Oregon. Draco Orah thought his chance of ever finding his mate was nonexistent. He was over a thousand years old and had been kicked out of his dragon clan when he had been young and unable, or maybe unwilling, to control his anger. It had taken years, but finally he’d become a master at control, that was, until he’d met his mate with chains holding him prisoner.
Ryland West hated shifters. Considering he was currently chained up and forced to work for the Chief Council, he thought he had the right to his feelings. So why was he having warm emotions for a shifter?
Time will be against them figuring things out as an evil monster comes knocking, bent on destroying Ryland. Can Draco learn to control his temper instead of scaring off his mate ? Will Ryland be able to find a way past his hatred of shifters in order to see what was between them? Love has a funny way of giving the hopeless a chance but they have to reach out and grab it, or Like Magic, it will slip away.
Bestselling author of the Cedar Falls Series, Hart Medical Center Series, Miracle Series, and Paranormal Wars Series, Shea Balik has always had a vivid imagination with stories running around in her head. Often her stories are taken from observations of other people with her own spin.
Traveling is one of her favorite ways of fulfilling her passion of people watching. You never know, one day you may spark her imagination for her next book.
Whether at home or traveling she is usually in front of her computer writing or curled up with a good book.
After enjoying the series up to this point, I was hugely disappointed by his entry. While there's always been a little exaggeration of displays of passion and emotion in the series, this was way, way, way too over the top. The prose could hardly have been more purple. And the antics weren't just coming from the spotlight couple Draco and Ryland but also Chadwick and Saber who actually got almost completely equal time and dialog! Chadwick would say something snarky, sarcastic, and/or childish, then Saber would scold him, followed by the two of them kissing passionately and possessively. This culminates at one point in the two deciding to have sex on a kitchen island while the dining room is in use (Saber tells Chadwick that he'll make him scream Saber's name so that everyone will know who his mate belongs to). As for Draco and Ryland? Draco has zero control of himself, as he shows by destroying part of a mansion. He was completely deranged by wanting to mate--and not in a sexy way. Ryland and his sister Kierra seem to have split personalities. One minute Kierra is literally crying and wringing her hands in fear of the new shifters from the Council, the next she has her hands on her hips, blasting Draco with sass and attitude. In one moment Ryland is cringing and crying in a ball, the next he is desperate to find Draco who suddenly makes him feel safe and loved. There are other issues with the story itself. Too many things come up that seem to contradict earlier statements or facts--even down to something as simple as Drago's eyes going from being green to being blue. Many words or phases were over-repeated like the reference to Ryland's "amber eyes" and "amber orbs". While within the same range of pages as earlier books, this one also felt very rushed. I was just disappointed on many levels with this book but, having really enjoyed the series so far, I am just hoping it's a fluke and will be looking forward to the next in the Miracle collection.
This wasn’t the worst book ever, what was there was actually very sweet, mostly fluffy, and there was next to zero angst. Truly, the only conflicts were just a few pages, then *poof* all better. The problem is that this was absolutely not a whole book. There’s some pieces that certainly could have been expanded into a plot. But they just weren’t. And if you were looking for some steamy dragon love scenes, you will be supremely disappointed. I’ve read Young Adult books with far more, far hotter, sex scenes. When we’re finally told about something bad coming for Draco, and we finally get a big plot point and maybe some of the great action that Ms. Balik is such a master at... The book ends. Just ends. Total fail here since I love Shea Balik, have read at least a dozen of her books, and I know she’s perfectly capable of writing something good.
If I hadn’t read this book during the Kindle Unlimited free trial, I would be pissed. This may not be my fist ever review, but it’s probably the first in the last decade. This book just made me feel so cheated that I had to write a review and maybe give someone the warning I didn’t get:
This is not a completed novel. It’s the basic outline(barely) of a few different plots that never go anywhere, and two characters fawning over each other with their love, but almost no sex, and a shockingly abrupt ending just when you thought something might actually happen.
It’s the wasted potential that makes this so aggravating.

This series gets better and better. This one may have some trigger points though so be careful and be aware. There are mentions of rape and actual attempted rape in this story. And of course with this series, if you haven't been reading or don't know, there is quite a bit of violence as these shifters are fighting for their lives and their rights. And in this one, we learn a secret I was excited about. A new shifter trying to make his life right. Draco knows his shortcomings and when meeting his mate, he's all too aware of how his temper can be too much. But even with Ryland being scared, he stands up for himself and makes Draco want to be the best he can be for his sweet mate. It's a time for change and a lot don't like change. There's betrayals and traitors in the mix as they try to figure out how to keep moving forward with all that's going on. It's a very interesting ride and I'm loving every minute.
I found this to be another strong addition to the series. I liked how there wasn't any kind of dithering on Draco's part when Ryland was in trouble - he just attacked and took down anyone and anything hurting his mate.
Of course, there is the question of keeping Draco's nature hidden... I mean, if you don't want people to clue in that you're a dragon, why would you maintain Draco as your name?!. It's sort of a huge red flag. And how do they keep that a secret after he destroyed so much in New York, in front of so many witnesses?
A thousand years is a long time to wait to find your mate, but Draco has been wanting that long. When the new Shifter Council members go to the Council headquarters Draco is shocked to not only find his mate but to discover that he's human. As a dragon he's had to learn control but seeing his mate chained in the kitchen infuriates him and threatens him. Ryland is understandably leary of shifters. Finding a way past Ryland's fears and hatred while controlling his magic is Draco's difficulty on their path to finding their HEA.
I enjoyed this intriguing story and just loved Draco (dragon. So cool) and Ryland (human). It was also nice to see Chadwick and Saber throughout the book. It was well written with a gripping plot. It was a bit difficult to read about all that Ryland and his sister had been through being slaves to the council, but the ending was sweet and heartwarming. There is also a hint of what danger may appear next. Dragons are awesome and so is Saber being an ape shifter. Outstanding and gripping read. =)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So good. I was wondering how things were at council headquarters. Seems we are still weeding out bad apples. I was hoping there would be a shifter like Draco. His name kind of gives it away though. And we needed some humans. I'm all for a mix of all kinds of paranormal. www.reviewsforthosewholoveagoodbook.w...

To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Quick 100 pages or so read. Great addition to the series. Enjoyable and Entertaining read. MM. Draco and Ryland story. Nole's name becomes Nolan!! Draco is a
I am loving this series. Well written with well developed characters. I am hoping it will not be to long before the next book comes out. I will be looking forward to what comes next.
This book moves us out of the town of Miracle as dragon shifter, Draco, follows his alpha Saber to check out the Chief Council residence.
I think that this series has become a bit of a guilty, addictive pleasure, because as much as I’m enjoying this series, reading one book straight after the other, my list of annoyances is also growing. Six books into the series and every single story has had the less dominant of the main characters reject his alpha mate. And for mostly stupid reasons. This book followed that same storyline again, although to be fair it probably makes the most sense with this couple.
Ryland is a human who has been kept as a slave in a shifter house for years. He has been repeatedly raped and abused so he’s not keen on finding out that he has a shifter for a mate. Even if this shifter is obviously different from his abusers. Also, three of the six books have mates who have been raped repeatedly, for years at a time, and I’m kind of ready for something new.
Whereas the first few books of this series were all about the cats and the mice, the author has begun branching out into different shifters. Dragon shifters always have that extra wow factor, and I actually liked the fact that one of the mates was a human. I loved Draco’s attitude of immediately viewing Ryland and his sister as family.
This story was perhaps even more over the top plot wise than the previous books but I like that about this series. I know I’ve said it before but for a series that features so many rape victims for MCs, its surprisingly light hearted and fun. Which seems impossible, but trust me, it works if you just accept that shifters work differently to humans.
Though the majority of this book is set outside of Miracle, all of our main characters do head back to the prospering town which means that all of our favourite shifters will be around for the next book.
