Alyssa has just done what Thoreau wanted by waking up the Death Magic inside of her—and Xavier's not happy about it. But that's the least of their problems. Now that Thoreau shares a body with the former leader of the Underground, he now knows where she and her friends are hiding and the days of the Underground are numbered. As he closes in, Alyssa and Xavier now have no choice but to find a way into the Infernal Dimension to rescue their comrades, but the price might be too high. By saving her father, Alyssa may be forced to awaken yet another terrifying piece of herself, one that will bring Thoreau that much closer to ending the world.
Holly Hook is the author of the Destroyers Series, which consists of five young adult books about teens who are walking disasters...literally. She is also the author of the Rita Morse series, a young adult fantasy series still in progress, and After These Messages, a short ya comedy. Currently she is writing Twisted, a spin-off of the Destroyers Series due out in December. When not writing, she enjoys reading books for teens, especially ya fantasy and paranormal series with a unique twist.
This series is so so addictive!!!! I loved this book even more than the rest and I am dying to read the next one, once its released! I loved the plot to this book, its fast paced and action packed, a really exciting tale that keeps you hooked and turning the pages! You won't believe where this storyline and what happens in it!
You really start to understand the characters even more in thus book, you see their motivation and what is meaningful to them especially Alyssa & Xavier. I am also really liking Mack, he is powerful in his own right only he doesn't want to be and I would love to read more about him and where he has come from.
Most definitely a 5* book that I highly recommend although readers will need to read the first three amazing books you fully understand what happens in this one.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Alyssa, who has been dealing with being turned into a vampire for a while now, is now setting out to gain control of her base urges to the best of her ability. Xavier, her War Mage battle-partner, tries to maintain his distance since letting Alyssa bite him will only result in utter destruction of the Abnormal world as they know it and the enslavement of all.
The characters are well developed, and I enjoyed all the action scenes, both good and bad. If you are a fan of supernatural or paranormal literature, and you like reading about vampires, this book (and this series) is definitely worth checking out.
This is a really fun series, and Vile Magic is a great addition to it. Alyssa is growing in power ... and it's a bit scary where she seems to be heading. Meanwhile, as much as they're resisting it, Alyssa and Xavier are growing closer ... now if only they can hold back that whole round-up-and-enslave all abnormals things. Full of thrills, dealing with fears and irrational hatreds, growth and loss, and with a wonderful characters and really great - and well written - plot, this is a powerful book that's also loads of fun. Highly recommended.
I got some mixed feelings with this one actually. I really liked the development of the story but I think that the relationship between Alyssa and Xavier need a bit more. It seems all a bit like "instant love". I mean, they've battled together and they've had a few struggles, but everything that happens seems a little off sometimes. Overall tho it's a good read and I'm really curious about the end of the story and see how they defeat Thoreau.
Another great installment in the Abnornals saga! The story picks up shortly after Death Magic. It's not long before we see the consequences of Alyssa's decisions. The story continues to build as new relationships are revealed and plots are exposed. No matter how hard she fights, Alyssa seems to be barreling toward the thing she fears and the fate she can't avoid. I can't wait for the thrilling conclusion!
I love this series. Alyssa and Xavier always seem to be just steps from death. They are trying to save the Normals and Abnormals of the world from demons like Thoreau. He is trying to edge Alyssa closer to becoming the "Dark Pentagram" who will merge the Earth to the Infernal World or Hell. If you haven't started the series I suggest that you read the first in this series, Blood Magic. You'll be "Hooked".
So the story continues. And the plot thickens as we discover family ties, new ways to destroy life as they know it and consequences to mistakes. Ms. Hook has woven this next installment with a quick pace, questions answered although a few left for the next book and a desire to see how the story ends.
This is an interesting series, that keeps me wondering what will happen next, and this book wasn't any different. The plot flowed nicely, and was interesting. There were a few things that I didn't care for, but I did overall like the book. I also liked the characters for the most part. I was gifted a copy.
Each sequel is darker than the previous book, fitting with the whole Dark Pentagram theme. And as always, this book is fast paced with thrilling events and one epic plottwist that is so fitting within the story but off the charts at the same time. All this makes for a fantastic read that leaves you yearning for book 5!
In trying to resurrect Leon, Alyssa and Xavier accidentally also resurrect Thoreau; BIG, bad news. The even worse news; they resurrect in the same body. Alyssa and Xavier 's two worst enemies working together, well sort of. Wonderful world building and characters, fast action, and a bit of romance make this a great read!
this book was a good story that follows Alyssa and her battle partner. we learn new information that better explains the why behind the Mayor is trying to activate her.
As I said in my last review for Death Magic, I had a hard time getting through these last two books due to mental illness. I struggle with anxiety and depression and due to school, I've had lots of stress and it's been pushing on my mental state. However, I do feel like this was a really fantastic addition to the series. My reading experience with this one was a little better because I was so invested in wanting to get to the end and finding out what happens. I wasn't disappointed and I'm excited to pick up Holly's next series.
The timing I had with this series was awesome. I finished this book and waited only a couple days before the last in series was released. Was soooo sad to leave this world and these characters!
