If you have basic computer skills this book is great for you. While I struggle with even the most basic actions, I was able to utilize this. My daughter being more skilled than I when it comes to technology, as is the case with all my kids lol, she got the most out of this. She was able to pick up and create with absolute ease. This is a good tool to have. Though we both agree it would be best to read on a computer than a tablet. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I would recommend looking at all the educational guides that Nathan Clark has.

Lots of filler, misses the point of JavaScript

If you have no familiarity with programming, and you don't plan on ever doing so for money, this might be the book for you... Otherwise it pays lip service to a couple of frameworks (the angular demo doesn't every contain JavaScript) and explains data types and how to write hello world with varying levels of obtuseness. It explains nothing about functional languages, objects, or non trivial operations.

It's a waste of time if you're experienced, and a misguided waste of time for those who aren't.

This was another programming book that I thought was very easy to read and well written. It was a very basic language that even the beginning programmer would be able to follow and understand. I thought that the way the book was separated made it easier to follow and find the different examples of programming. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it honestly.

Not bad

Good one for those who are looking for a quick start with zero knowledge in programming. It could have been better if there is a detailed explanation for code snippets given in the book.

Precisely for beginners

What a a way to start JavaScript while also seeing this how they evolve in from Ying your screen with most simplified examples.I enjoyed every bit of it and now happy to move the next book for my world of JavaScript.

Very good

I was impressed by simplicity of the author’s style. Brief, clear and consistent explanations. Lots of code examples are in this book.

Somewhat repetitive...

While it does explain the basics of JS its more of a reference than a book that actually explains how to Javascript.

Not for beginners

While a reasonable summary of JavaScript commands is provided, there is very little information on how to use them in practice.

Useless, incomplete

I chose to barely give this book a 2 as it is fairly useless. just start with the second book and go from there.

Excellent

This is the first book in a series. It is an ideal informative read. Throughout the book, Nathan gives plenty of examples and explains things well. This is the best JavaScript book I have ever browsed so far. Clearly, Nathan is an expert and I have no hesitation in recommending his book. I received this as a free download. Recommend choice.

I have built two websites so far and thought I should probably learn JavaScript at some point, so I decided to take the dive with Clark's book. I'm so glad I did! With tons of examples and clear descriptions/definitions, I now feel I have a grasp on the language. I am confident I'll be able to learn more. I'm looking forward to the next step and Clark's next book.
