A woman fleeing an abusive relationship finds herself caught in the hypnotic gaze of an interested master vampire. And when her visions return and a murder victim calls from the grave, will she risk her life to answer?
It has taken Kate Hayden nine long years to escape Jonas, her sadistic husband. Scarred, injured, and full of secrets, she stops to rest in Harbinger Bend. Almost immediately she is bombarded with visions and the supernatural gifts she thought she'd lost forever return full force. Unable to leave town, she finds refuge in a vampire hotel and is taken under the fierce protection of Quillan Bouchard, the master of Harbinger Bend. She pushes away the past as she embraces her freedom, rediscovers her heart, and remembers what it's like to be alive. But when darkness arrives and enemies clash, who will be standing when the smoke clears?
Laken was first published in 2008. After a few exciting years with her publishers, she struck out on her own to write the now complete Rune Alexander series, and never looked back.
She shares her Ohio home with three spoiled dogs, two fish, and a tenacious African Violet. She drinks too much coffee and continues burning up the keys of her trusty laptop, getting the stories out of her head and into her readers' hands.
I've been a very very baaad girl :) I haven't finished reading Laken's "Rune Alexander" series even though I have loved it from the very beginning. But to be fair it's Laken's own fault by waving her latest book under my nose, and damn it didn't disappoint .... fast paced, emotionally charged read, as a mysterious women on the run, meets a master vampire (of course) in the small town call "Harbinger Bend". But Jonas is not far behind oooooooh! So was it a great read?: "YES", do I recommend you go out and get it "YES"
Loved this stand-alone book! Kate is on the run and not looking for attachments. Quill has been around many years and has loved and lost. They both had to over come so much but i loved every minute of the journey!!
This book is about a woman named Kate, she's lived for nine years under the thumb of her abusive husband until she escapes. On her way to a safe place her car breaks down in a small town called Harbinger Bend there she meets the master vampire of the town name Quillan. They are both attracted to each other but Kate knows just how dangerous it can be for those around her, she's determined to leave the town as soon as her car is fixed. Unfortunately she gets caught up in a murder investigation and can't leave. She fears her husband might find her but she also wants to help find the missing woman. As feelings grow between Quillan and Kate and the details of the woman's disappearance grow she knows there's no escaping her past. Will she be able to have a new future free from pain and fear?
This book was so great! I loved Kate, she's beaten and she's battered but she's not out. She's a tough lady! I wasn't expecting her to have powers but it was really cool when it happened. I like her visions and the way they are described. I understand her fear of her husband who's been her captor for almost a decade but when she kept saying he would kill Quillan I was doubtful but I think that's because in my mind vampires always win over werewolves that just my opinion though. I loved the mystery of trying to find out who killed Anna and then when the murders are revealed it was so unexpected! I love when things surprise me and you don't see things coming. I loved Quillan and how he's so determined to protect Kate even though she's human. Eleanor is awesome I wouldn't mind reading a story about her she's just so badass and I loved that she was protective of Quillan's feelings. This story is so fun, the mystery, the romance, the paranormal, the wonderful characters. It's definitely different than other Laken Cane books but just as awesome! I enjoyed that there was more romance which has always been my favorite genre but it would still appeal to paranormal/urban fantasy readers as well.
It is always interesting to me to see how different authors will portray how a vampire lives. Laken Cane keeps it to how we have always known a vampire to be from long ago. Paranormal are some of my favorite genre's to read and I was not disappointed with Harbinger Bend. In Harbinger Bend there is a little bit of something for everyone...mystery, vamps, werewolves, psychic, and romance. Enjoyed Harbinger Bend and look forward to more visits there.....if Laken Cane wants to share more of that world with us mortals.
I absolutely adore Laken Cane and the novels she's blessed me with thus far. This newbie is no different in that respect. This book follows no silly formula; it just is. Haunted, action-packed, and deliciously dark. These characters are so easy to love and hate, and when I reach the end and realize again that it's a STAND-ALONE, my mind is already finding ways that they can and will fit in with the other characters she's made me fall for; my Shiv Crew maybe? 😍
Once again Laken has kept me enthralled with her story and unable to put the book down. I read this from start to finish in one sitting because I ate up every page. Love how she has the dark theme with the abuse but has her growing stronger with each chapter. Loved Quill, would have loved to have his point of view in the story, he is now another book boyfriend to add to my harem. Don't ever stop writing Laken!
What makes a very emotional day much better...A NEW RELEASE FROM LAKEN CANE! This is one hell of an amazing author. Huge fan of her work and highly recommend for those lovers of urban fantasy/paranormal romance. This book is yet another masterpiece in her collection. Have a love of vamps and weres? Well this is the book for you!! Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down...literally. Started reading when I boarded the plane for Texas and finished right before landing. Yep, it's that good! Check it out and then look up her other books, you will be glad you did! Happy Reading!!!
I'm a huge fan of Laken Cane and her books are phenomenal. Harbinger Bend was no exception. Kate and Quill were both fantastic and Elenore is probably my favorite character. I think she needs her own book Laken hint hint. I loved the nod to Rune Alexander also (my blood is not addictive). I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal vampire books because it's a 5 star read!
Amazing book! This story is full of mystery and intrigue as Kate finds herself stranded and alone in Harbinger Bend. She catches the eye and interest of the local vamp master, meanwhile the dead are demanding their time with Kate as well. Laken Cane ventured well into a new genre with this paranormal romance, but staying true to her trademark style, there is a great side of urban fantasy action as well.
This stand alone had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book! I couldn't seem to put my kindle down I just HAD to finish! It's hard to find books that keep you so emotionally invested that you have a serve need to keep turning page after page! Laken you have truly done it again!
I really liked the characters. It was a little short but well written. I would be interested in reading more about Kate and Quill and the others of Harbinger Bend.
Kate the abused wife of a werewolf runs and stumbles into a vampires town. Kate has visions and sees the death of a well liked girl in the town of Harbinger Bend. She has caught the attention of head vamp Quill. Has an deranged werewolf on her heels. Good story line and character development. Give it a chance and you won't regret it.
This book was fantastic! I'm a long, LONG time fan of everything Laken Cane. I may have said it before but even so, it needs to be said again....if I heard that Laken was going to write out her grocery list to publish and sell to the public, I would pre-order the list, I would buy the list, I would read, then re-read the list, and I have no doubt that I would be blown away by every single thing that was on that list and wish I knew what she was going to write down to buy on her next shopping trip! This book though. This book was something else. It was well written. It was heartbreaking. It was exciting. It was obsessive. It was un-putdown-able. I started it and couldn't stop until I finished it. This was a hard read for me and it needs to be said that if you have difficulty with stories that go into detail on abuse and domestic violence, then this book may be hard for you to handle. Having said that, she handled the subject matter with such....care, it made it easier to get through and it just helped you love Kate even more for what she endured to get where she is now. And the vampires! Wait till you meet these vampires! I know that right now this is listed as being a stand-alone book, but PLEASE LAKEN CANE, don't let that happen! This Lady, Her Vampire and This Town.....they need more time given to them!
I really enjoy Laken Cane’s writing and this standalone paranormal romance is no different. It’s an interesting paranormal romance which appeals to me because so often paranormal romances don’t have much plot involved. This book had plenty of plot and very interesting characters.
Kate is on the run from her abusive husband who has controlled her for 9 years whilst torturing her mentally and physically. Her husband is a werewolf who is suppressing his nature whilst working as a cop.
After the death of her mother Kate has managed to escape with some money left her and with the aid of a friend’s old car, which breaks down on the way from Colorado to Maine, in a small town called Harbinger Bend where it seems like Vampire’s hold great power. Kate was going to leave quickly when she gets hit by blinding visions as her supernatural abilities slam back online after years of being suppressed. She has a vision of a dead woman, which gets her the attention of a Master Vampire.
I love how we learn about Kate’s history and her abilities. It’s slowly uncovered as she learns to trust in her freedom. We see her grow in strength as she gradually begins to believe in herself.
It’s a really good example of paranormal romance that isn’t necessarily focussed solely on the romance.
Something different from the author but still good
Four star rating for Ms. Cane. This was a bit different for me coming from the author but still as enjoyable as her other books. I guess I'm just use to the gore, loads of action and everything else in between from Ms. Cane. Oh well what can I say, I've been spoiled! I would love to see this one turned into a series. I think it would be a wonderful thing. This felt a little short for me but the characters were easily likeable with a quick storyline of paranormal romance of a heroine growing a backbone. I did indeed like it!
WHAT THE FUCK. This book was SO GOOD??? I literally could not put it down, it was that amazing. I can’t believe a standalone book achieved that level of… I don’t know, completeness?
There was really only a small amount of world-building, but somehow, I was not even bothered by that. I was way too busy loving the plot and relationship development. Quillan was fucking amazing. Eleanor was also super cunty- giving major Pam vibes.
I just loved everything about this. Genuinely a fantastic vampire romance.
An extremely abused woman attracts the attention of a vampire who has a savior complex. He worships her from the start, not knowing anything about her. She enjoys being hovered over and treated like a helpless damsel. Even her predictable discovery of her own strength is weak and unconvincing. Love this author. Hated this book, its Mary Sue lead character and the unconvincing instalove. Yuk.
This was a good little story. It tells you just enough about the setting, characters, and other inhabitants of the world. It is contained enough to stand alone, but the potential for more stories is there and I wouldn’t mind reading another story set in the world. Or hearing more about the main characters and their life, though I think the biggest hurdle has been tackled.
This was a gripping plot peopled, and vampires, with complex, unique characters that make you care about them. I hope that this is the start of a series. I can't wait for more from Laken Cane!
This book never really seemed interesting to me. But I love Laken and thought I’d give it a try. The book is amazing, nothing like I expected. Really deep for a paranormal book. Love it!
Paranormal. Uf. Vampires. Werewolves. Necromancer heroine. Running from her abusive husband, Kate finds herself stuck in a town full of vampires and a soul that won't let up. Really good story. Love Quillan and Kate.
I really enjoyed reading this book. You truly felt for the FMC and wanted only good things for her. Quill was the perfect blend of hard and sweet, and everything I look for in a vampire romance. So good!
