This book spoke to me because I grew up visiting the area around Cherry Point and my family had a cottage that was home base for hundreds of wonderful memories. Cloud Cottage is a great beach read, truly a feel good story, and respite from the every day grind; the same as our trips to Oceana county were all those years ago. Reading this book might also trigger cravings for some of the scrumptious baked goods from Cherry Point or berries from a U Pick farm!
A perfect way to spend the day - a delightful family, certainly not perfect, who lives or visits a place dear to my heart. Mystery, romance maybe - stay tuned!
While on vacation, I met the author, Barbara Bull. She owns Cherry Point Farm and Market near Shelby, Michigan. She self-described the book as a "cozy mystery--think Hallmark".
The book is a very easy read and was enjoyable to me because it talked about so many things I had seen on vacation. The book does have a mystery in it, but it is more about the dynamics of family and the importance of being there for one another.
It's a wonderful life - - - and it's especially wonderful if you have a place that is near and dear to your heart and in an area steeped with generations of family - even if they aren't your specific heritage. It's a wonderful part of our country - this western Michigan shore - with The Lake, the beaches, dunes, orchards, inland lakes, activities and yes, deep-fried asparagus. This is a wonderful book - good for all ages. Through the story of Katherine MacLeod's retirement to the area, to the family (clan) cottage and her welcoming of family, and love of the area, we're quietly introduced to the beauties of nature here along with many local traditions and activities. Then there is the mystery . .. what secret was her great grandfather hiding(?) or attempting to share(?) - dating back to his unexpected arrival here (a shipwreck will do that!). and I sense a budding romance and more delights to come in the next volumes. Nicely done, read in a day, one that should be on your bookshelf.
I loved the book!! I bought it at Cherry Point, which is mentioned in the book. I think I loved the fact that I could see what the author was talking about since I’ve been to almost all the places in the book. My husband’s family has a house on Silver Lake. Little Sable Point, also mentioned in the book, is my favorite place in the whole world. The whole story of family is the front, Kathrine’s mystery is a great way to break up the family parts. I just wanted to keep knowing more. The characters are very well put together. Kathrine is a gem!
This was an absolutely charming book, such a comfort read. If you love stories about the power of family and land, you’ll love this. If you are a Michigander, it’s even more fun to recognize places we know and love. Can’t wait to read more of the authors books!
What an amazing book and series. I never wanted to put down the book I was reading. Great research with informative and enlightening information was in each book, great job to Barbara Bull.
