When tragedy strikes… Henry Wilson has been a strong and steady force for his family for years. When death steals one of them, Henry’s ability to keep himself together is tested. Right before she disappeared from his life for good. And the chips are down… Cynthia Hill is inching closer and closer to the life she always feared. Still single, and now jobless, she’s living back at home with her mom. It isn’t as bad as she thought it would be, which scares her more than the way she thinks about her former best friend. All they have is each other… Henry knows getting involved with Cynthia won’t lead to anything but pain. She’ll go back to her life, and he’ll be left to deal with one more heartbreak. One he isn’t sure he’ll survive.
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Mary E Thompson spent most of her childhood wishing she had a few less curves. She hid in the pages of books because her favorite characters never cared what size her clothes were. Now, neither does Mary, and she writes stories that celebrate women like her. Real women who have curves, chase dreams, and find love, because we should all be happy, no matter our dress size. Mary spends her non-writing time with her husband and two kids, watching too much TV, cheering for her hometown football team (Go Bills!), and hiding chocolate from her family.
Amavita Vineyard and the people who live there are favourites of mine. I love the close relationship that the family shares and how they work together to keep the vineyard and all the related business going. They look out for one another and are not afraid to say when they think someone is making a big mistake. However, relationships are tricky and you can't help who you fall in love with and when your family tell you to stay away from the person you love it can cause friction. This is what happens when Henry's long lost love returns home. Henry and Cynthia were best friends can they be anything more? With the death of one of the family members there are lots of emotions in this book.
One of the reasons I love Mary E Thompson's books is her ability to make you feel like the story is about you or similar to your experiences. You become invested in the characters and their stories, even the secondary ones, because you see part of yourself in the story. I sympathized and empathize with Henry's loss. I was not expecting that much sadness but that's life. I didn't expect to smile so much when I read about Vivian and Tim. That made my heart happy. Love and second chances can happen at any age. I absolutely love this family and I can't wait to read more about the HEAs.
This was one of those books that take you through a gauntlet of emotions. I cried many times. I laughed quite a few. I was angry a lot. I liked Cynthia, then I would totally hate her. Then I was sad for Henry, then I thought he needed a good smack in the back of his head. To make you feel all that is a sign of a fantastically written story. Cheers.
