The GCP team has been asked to investigate a haunted B&B called Dixie House. There, a young boy disappeared from his own birthday party and was never seen again, and a young woman was murdered in the pool. Before the investigation even begins, Cassidy comes home to find small wet footprints in her apartment, which piques her own ability to paint scenes from tragic pasts. In the meantime, a former GCP member, Peter, is back and wanting to make amends. Midas isn’t exactly welcoming because he doesn’t want to upset the current dynamic of the team. The investigation reveals some surprising answers, and the team hopes it also lays some ghosts to rest.
This was perhaps the least creepy of any book in this series so far. Creepy lite, if you will. It seemed to focus more on the characters than the investigation. Not that that wasn’t interesting, but I chose to read this in October hoping for some creepiness. ‘Tis the season, man! LOL!

Trouble from the past appears again in this novel as Midas’ ex-best friend, who cheated on him with his girlfriend of the time, returns trying to kick his alcoholism just as the team gets involved in investigating a new haunting. A young boy disappeared on his birthday while swimming in a pool and everyone blamed his great aunt who was his caretaker. To make matters worse, a medium in the Netherlands with abilities similar to Cassidy’s had painted a picture of him being attacked. And now Cassidy is finding wet footprints in her apartment as she continues to find links to the spirits through her paintings.
So the Gulf Coast Paranormal team investigates the site where the boy disappeared and learns that there are a lot of spirits lingering in the old house that used to be a speak easy in the 1920s. At least one of the ghosts is very angry and powerful enough to inflict some serious wounds on Midas. Like all the other stories in the series, this is a tale of love gone wrong and the team struggling to make things right a great many decades after the initial crime. As they do so, Cassidy begins to realize that she is having a lot of visits from ghosts in her own apartment and they are scaring her.
I think the best part of the story was the chapter in which Cassidy’s uncle visits her again. This really opens up Cassidy’s past as a source of future storylines for the series (as if her past wasn’t already fertile ground for ghost stories). Midas also has a death in his past that looks like it could turn into another problem with the spirit world.
Not bad. Not great. I finished it but then it was a short story or short book (and held my attention long enough to finish it) with a quite interesting plot even if it lacked the more developed and fleshed out story that I believe this author has the talent to write.
Naprawdę, dopiero w połowie to do mnie dotarło. Pomimo tego, nie miałam problemów z szybkim zorientowaniem się w przeszłości głównych bohaterów. A główna sprawa, którą oni rozwiązywali, wciągnęła mnie mocno. Trochę elektroniki, trochę nadnaturalnych zdolności i nawiedzony zajazd to wszystko co potrzeba, by przeprowadzić klimatyczne poszukiwania duchów.
I think I say it after each book in this series but this one was by far the best one yet! The author effortlessly pulled me right into the past allowing me to feel like I had stepped into the lives of the characters. Cassidy's story just gets more interesting. Certainly will be reading the test of this series. Another great book provided by my kindle unlimited subscription.
When I picked up this book I just wanted a short haunted house story, I didn't realise it was actually the fifth book in a series. Therefore I'm not gonna rate this, all I'm gonna say is that it was not for me and I will not continue the series, or go back to the earlier books. It did give me *short* haunted house story though, so I can't complain about that part I guess 😬
Anyone who loves the paranormal will love this series. It's intense with great characters and riveting storylines. I love each of the investigations and usually read the book in one setting. This was another great addition to the series! Now I'm ready for the next book!
A Haunting at Dixie House Was Not Just at Dixie House
The cast of players quickly changes through another paranormal investigation. The Gulf Coast team settles into more maturity than ever. More revelations. More resolutions. This was a much more satisfying read! On to the next!!
This shouldn't have taken me 5 days to finish. It was simply bc I didn't have the time to read. This is a quick and easy read. I love the story. I love the way the author tells a story...so easy to fall into & get lost in.
House called Dixie, roaring 20s and lots of ghosts. This is a great book that will keep you reading until the end. The end has a surprising twist that you want anticipate.
This whole series is trivial, but this particular book read a little bit like a high schooler’s attempt at creative writing. It felt very rushed and undeveloped, and there are more questions than answers. Hopefully the next one is better.
A little more on the weird side. Which is not a bad thing. Another good installment of the GCP series. Once again, a quick read but a very fun read. More ghostly goodness. And our heroine's life gets even more interesting/complicated/spooky.
This book was very interesting in some of the chapters, but was a little boring in the others. I thinked it bounced around too much, which made it harder to read. Not a bad read, just not my favorite.
The books in this series get better as they go along. While still a bit too short, although that's not unusual for cozy series, the plots are becoming more complex, the characters have more depth, and the style is smoothing out.
This book was a great addition to the series. This one is my favorite so far!! I loved the investigation pirtion so much. I loved the continued story line of the investigators. This book left me wanting more!!!
