This is a 62 page book that has a rather stiff cardboard cover. It is not really a hardback, but it is much stiffer that the normal paperback. It was authored by Cecilia Margaret Rudin and published by the John Rudin & Company Inc. Some of the song storied All the Way My Saviour Leads Me, A Mighty Fortress is Our God, Be Strong, Give Heed My Heart - Life Up Thine Eyes, Hold the Fort, Hush My Babe - Lie Still and Slumber, Jesus Lover of My Soul, Jesus the Very Thought of Thee, Joy to the World!, Love divine All Loves Excelling, Now the Day is Over, O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing, Rescue the perishing, Softly Now the Light of Day, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.
Outdated (written in the 30s), but offers some background on hymns and their history. The hymn “Stand Up for Jesus” was written for a minister in Philadelphia who was shoved out of his position for speaking out on social causes, esp. against slavery. Some good nuggets of info, apropos for its time.
I picked this up at the local fish fry. I always enjoy reading about the history of many of my beloved hymns. This book was written in the 30's. I found a few discrepencies so not sure that I would trust every word but it was still informative and a few details I didn't know.
