Awww, that was cute!
This book was really adorable and heartbreakingly moving somehow.
Poor Charlie is such a sad and lonely person ... he has his sister and she's the best, but he worries about her. And he feels guilty for everything that happened.
He wants to finally fall in love! Only he thinks he's not really worth it. But Ramon is worth everything to him, and he tries so hard to finally get that HEA with him.
Ramon has lots of demons from his past life that followed him to LA ....
But, of course we'll get to that Happy End eventually.☺
It might take some time, but we'll have a great time watching those two boys fight for their happiness!
Great gay romance. Adorable and romantic and sweet and a bit naive new-adult-coming-of-age-ish.
That age part is also the part that bothered me a bit. I have no idea how old anyone in this book is.
I hated that a bit. It's never mentioned. I had no idea if Charlie is 32 or 22 - I'd go with 23 now because it was mentioned that his parents died 6 years ago when he was a junior in high school - no idea how old you are as a junior in the US, but I guess 23 should be his correct age now.
But his high school friend Leo is now a senior programmer at Google? Can you be that just one year out of college? No idea. I don't like it when authors don't tell us the ages. Almost as much as I hate not being in a real place - that's not happening here - we're in LA!!! ☺
I was also a bit unsure about the writing. This is only my 2nd RC book and like with the first one I didn't really love the writing. No idea what it is though. The way Ruth creates and structures some sentences is just weird.
But, don't worry, it's probably just me. I still loved the book!
It was an adorable romance with lots of sweet and sexy and fun and moving moments.
Lots of great characters too. Especially towards the end, where we meet the boys from UNFORGIVEN again ;) Ramon played a big part in their book - so you might want to read that first!

Charlie is a geeky guy who has a problem with putting himself out there, until he meets Ramon, but the thing is Roman is a bartender/male dancer at an exclusive club who caters to women if you know what I mean. Can there be love or just nothing but lap dances?
I have read this author before, and it was another M/M book and I loved it, but unfortunately this one didn't do it for me. Charlie, oh Charlie, for most of the book he came off desperate. It was a little painful and awkward at times to read some scenes. I will say later on in the book it was nice to see him get a backbone.
Roman I found sexy, but just couldn't connect with him, I don't know, maybe if it was also told in his POV as well. I really enjoyed Charlie's sister Sasha. I loved her spirit.
The story did have some good moments, When Charlie and Roman did get together it was hot, and it was nice to see their relationship develop.

I don't know what is missing. I mean it started with a tragedy. Had instances of caregiving. On to the drama of an ex. Circumstances of heartache, wanting autonomy, and new love interest.
On to social issues of the city! Lead to a revelation. Then 30 percent before the end. It's time to wrap it up. Everything just magically works itself out.
Then the twist. Onto acceptance of friends and family. Oops why not another twist.
One thing I can say. This book keeps you guessing. There is just enough spice. Keeping the room heated. But not enough to burn away your interest in continuing to read.

Encore by Ruth Clampett
3.5 stars!!!
Ruth Clampett is a new to me author and this one was chosen as my first read because it is a M/M and I have not read enough of them lately and also because I loved the cover. I’m easily pleased! Ruth Clampett regales us with the story of Charlie, our little computer geek and Ramon (think Magic Mike) stripper. Polar opposites in everything and yet together melted my heart.
Charlie was a computer programmer and after a tragic accident was also the sole caregiver to his paraplegic sister. The connection that these two had is what makes the hardest of hearts melt and Charlie was so selfless in everything he did. Charlie knew deep down he was gay, he had been attracted to a boy before, but life happened and they lost contact. Since then he had thrown himself into work and caring for his sister, he had no time for love or relationships. However, when one man makes you sit up and take notice, maybe it’s time for re-evaluation. This was a journey of sexual awakening for Charlie, the reclusive man slowly being pried out of his shell and once he shines, he glows.
Ramon was extremely self-confident but had his own troubles and past that still haunted him. His job was a means to an end and a way for him to fund realising his dreams. Like Charlie, he wasn’t looking for love either but sometimes love find you when you least expect it.
Charlie was a character that you could not help but root for, he was utterly endearing and I was like the protective mama bear that didn’t want to see him get hurt. Ramon on the outside was like a huge red flag for me for my precious Charlie but the more you peeled away his layers the more you realised he needed Charlie just as desperately.
This was a slow burn, sometimes a little too slow but none the less I was so captivated by Charlie and Ramon that it didn’t really bother me. I was glad their relationship wasn’t rushed and that the author took the time to develop them as individuals as well as a couple. There is a little suspense and intrigue thrown in, which was unexpected, but the predominant storyline is the evolution of Charlie and Ramon as a couple. Loved it.

ARC received for an honest review
I haven't read anything by Ms Clampett before, haven't read the book Unforgiven or met the character Ramon, however this did not affect my reading at all, as this could be read as a standalone.
Charlie and Ramon's story is cute and adorable, with a little bit of drama and suspense thrown in for good measure.
I adore Charlie right from the start. There is something a little naive about him that just makes him all the more likeable. Plus, the way he looks after his sister just throws his man points right up there.
When he meets Ramon, well those sparks sure do fly. He is so completely different from our Charlie, but that just makes it so much more right.
Now, one thing that bugged me about this book - how old is anyone? I mean, I don't need to know about every birthday party they ever had, but I could only take a rough guess at their ages from things that were mentioned, however they just didn't seem to align with other things - this could just be me though.
I adore adore ADORE Charlie's sister Sasha. She is just everything plus more that any woman could aspire to be like.
I did feel that this book did drag a little in the middle, and I did feel like I had to put it down and try to come back to it later. Not 100% sure why I felt that way though.

I really enjoyed Ruth Clampett's last MM romance, and I was incredibly intrigued by this synopsis. Unfortunately, this story fell flat for more. Even with likable characters and steamy scenes, Encore just didn't hit the mark for me.
Charlie is smart and attractive hero with a huge heart. He takes care of his sister, works hard at his job, and even though he yearns for more in the relationship department, he seems content with his life until he meets Ramon. After meeting Ramon, readers get a little more depth into his character, and they get to see that he is more broken than originally thought.
Ramon, although seeming to be an easy-going and charismatic hero, has many burdens and demons as well. He definitely has the allure that makes him enticing though, and it is easy to see why Charlie would be drawn to his character.
The plot progression and development of the story is where it began to fall apart for me as the reader. I was never able to full invest in them as a couple, and not for a lack of sexual chemistry. The standoffish behavior of Ramon in the beginning did not allow me to connect with them. The overwhelming insecurities or reasons they couldn't be together seem to continuously come, and they were easily solved, almost surface level resolutions to their issues. For those that love an HEA, there will be no disappointment.
I really wanted to love this one. I adored Ruth Clampett's Animate Me and her previous MM novel Unforgiven, but this one just didn't do it for me. I needed more substance from them as a couple, and I needed more focus on a single conflict with a bigger climax to keep me engaged. I will certainly return to this author again, as I have enjoyed her novels and writing style in the past.

Charlie was way too insecure for me. It wasn't even in an awkwardly adorable way, but in a "this is making me uncomfortable" way. Then he shows up at Ramon's job the next night and the night after, and he wants to KEEP paying him for these dances? It was just awkward. Don't get me wrong, the dancing scenes were great, but everything else in between made me uncomfortable.
The real moment that i had to stop reading is when Charlie's co-worker and "friend" Kate (I think thats her name) told Charlie that it was "hot" he was gay and proceeded telling the story of how she walked in on two guys kissing in high school and it was super hot, yadda yadda, they were BFFs after that.
It isn't that she thinks 2 guys kissing is hot, hellooooo???, its the way she went about it saying it to her COWORKER. I wouldn't say that to someone I work with, let a long a close friend, that would just be weird. It just felt like one big stereotype and was the straw the broke the horses back on this book for me.
Sorry to say, I won't be finishing it, but I hope Charlie and Ramon get a happy ending ((pun intended))

It's hard to get first person present tense right without the reader feeling they're just been told everything instead of being able to see it happening through the narrative.
I don't think this quite works all the time, we see far too much random thoughts from Charlie's and being in his head all the time, especially in moments where he's being a dick, is a bit wearing.
I swapped between wanting to tell him to get a grip and slapping him, he's not the most sympathetic of characters in my view and as we also see Ramon through his perspective, it makes it difficult to judge really.
I liked the story premise though and I think that element of it worked quite well - the disparity between how each saw themself versus how the other saw them did come across.
Overall it was okay, I loved the background characters and the steam level was good.

Interesting story. The nerd and the stripper. Interesting and a wee-bit hot. But, Ruth Clampett made it work and gave us a nice romantic story.
Charlie is not really sure what his sexuality is about. He knows women do nothing for him and has absolutely no interest in going to a strip club with the women from work but, he’s talked into going. Now, he couldn’t be happier that he went.
Ramon has a past that is both inspiring and terrifying. He’s had no interest in much of anything after his last disaster but Prince Charlie intrigues him. One lap dance later and Charlie is convinced that the chemistry between them can’t be denied.
Unfortunately, Charlie’s fear of intimacy, his insecurities and his need to take care of Sasha have taken a front seat in his life. He works, he helps his sister and that’s about it. Until Ramon. As for Ramon, he’s not an open book and he’s hiding something but Charlie can’t stay away from him … until he is forced to. It doesn’t last long and when they finally give in to their feelings, the unimaginable happens. He tries to push Ramon away but, unlike before, he refuses to budge and stands right by his side.
I enjoyed the premise of this book but was not all that enthused with the dialogue. The conversations between Charlie and Ramon seemed extremely stilted to me. They didn’t ring true to life when speaking to each other and the love scene banter seemed forced. That is the one thing that truly distracted me throughout the story. The characters were well written and we understood their feelings, where they were coming from. Madame Fontanoy was wonderful and I was thrilled that she got an HEA as well as Charlie and Ramon. Sasha was a force of nature and she, too, deserved the HEA that she got. All-in-all, I enjoyed the story and loved the bit of intrigue that was thrown in.

Encore is the newest standalone m/m romance novel by Ruth Clampett. This is the story of Charlie and Ramon with some great secondary characters. Charlie's life is busy, work keeping him the most occupied the other is his sister who he loves and adores but also lives with since she was in a car accident killing both their parents. He's shy and thinks of himself as geeky and that nobody would be interested in him. His self confidence is low the other problem is the fact that he hasn't been honest with the people around him he's never really opened up and told people he is gay. After reluctantly being forced to go on a night out with his friends to a strip club he never expects that this night is about to be the one night to change his life.

Encore is a heart wrenching but also heart warming love story with lovable characters. The writing and feelings you get from this read are great.

Drama, drama, and more drama. What a mess!
It kind of feels like the author went on a crazy shopping spree for ideas for her book and then threw everything in there. She really threw anything and everything into it. And in the end it was just a mess. But maybe she was going for the soap opera vibe? I don't know, but it sure did read like one.
I never warmed to Charlie. He comes across like immature and a bit childish. Which is odd, because in a way he had to grow up overnight when he lost his parents and his sister ended up in a wheelchair due to a car accident. You'd think that after something like that, the struggles that he and his sister went through, he'd have grown a backbone. But he never did. He came across as this meek and innocent/insecure and almost child-like man. Needless to say; he annoyed me for most of the book.
Then you have Ramon who also is all over the place. Happy and bouncy, but also depressed and mellow. Kind, but also a cruel and inconsiderate. Add to it a past that he doesn't want to let go of and ones that comes back to haunt him....
I never really felt the connection between Charlie and Ramon, they never made sense to me as a couple. And even less how they started out and the insta-love/obsessive stalker vibe over it all. Nothing about the characters or the plot felt believable (or even likable) to me and I struggled my way through this book.
I won't go into the plot because most of it didn't make sense. In a way there wasn't really one, but there was still too much of it.... (Like I said - it didn't make any sense)
This was my first Clampett book, and sadly it will most likely be my last.

So this was kind of adorkable in it's own way. The story definitely had heart and it was sweet and flirty, but I wasn't really WOW'd by the characters and their connection and I think I should have. We have a stripper and a programmer ... the adorkable stops there LOL I'm not exactly sure what age group these guys fall into, but the story read very New Adult to me and that rarely works out for me. It's a personal preference so maybe that is why the book didn't WOW me. It wasn't a bad story by any means, it just didn't sizzle. It didn't have that edge that will keep you glued to your kindle just waiting for the next moment. But sweet non the less.
Not every book is for everyone, so don't let this stop you from running out and one-clicking if the blurb catches your eye!

I had high hopes before I picked up this book - I’ve read great stuff about Ruth Clamplett and was really excited to get my hands on her books.
Encore:
Charlie is still blaming himself for the deaths of his parents. His sister Sasha who survived the accident but was left in a wheelchair is trying to get him to open up and start living. Roman is a nice guy who suffered in his life and is working on getting the money to open his own dance club.
Something was missing - it was like a ride on a rollercoaster; one minute Charlie was secure in himself and his love for Ramon, the next he pushing him away when Sasha gets sick. Roman thinking he can't offer him the things he thinks Charlie deserves.
I loved half of the book when they finally got together and confessed how much they want and need each other. When Sasha ended up in the hospital and Ramon stayed by Charlie’s side even when he wanted to push him away and Ramon wouldn’t let him.
The other half had me almost putting it down; I didn't like how Charlie in the begging was almost beginning Ramon to give him a chance with offering to book the private dances for every night of the week. To me that seems a bit desperate. I also hated the jealousy - I HATE the green-eyed monster! :P
The passion was felt, funny banter between the characters was good. The side characters where funny - I would love to read more about Sasha :)
This story has a nice concept; Charlie who isn't in the open about his sexuality meeting Ramon who is a (strip) dancer with shady past; Them meeting and then falling in love, Charlie coming out of his shell; but something just didn't reach the level as it could/should in my opinion.

I won an arc, but at this point I doubt my rating would go up any if I finished it so I'm just going to close this one out. I may come back at some point and finish it, but for now there are just too many other books out there calling for me to read them.

"Encore" was a M/M love story that brought together two completely different characters. Charlie was the sensible, slightly nerdy computer guy who needed someone to hold his hand on his journey of sexual awakening and Ramon, who I had already met in "Unforgiven", was the confident and sexy erotic dancer that seemed like the perfect man to help Charlie find his true identity.
"In the presence of this man, I have nothing to fight against,
and everything to surrender to."
I loved the premise of this story and became immediately supportive of Charlie, rooting for him from the very first page. Because the book was written from Charlie's POV, I found it extremely easy to get to know and like him. Charlie was so sweet, but he also appeared to be a little naive, so when he quickly fell head over heels in love with Ramon, I was a little concerned that he was going to get his heart broken. Ramon was the complete opposite of Charlie, confident in everything, including his sexuality and he seemed willing to help Charlie on his journey of self-discovery. Although there were occasions during the story where I didn't fully trust Ramon's actions, I truly wanted his relationship with Charlie to work and after a while I realised that it wasn't just Charlie that needed support, Ramon too needed help and his life wasn't as simple as I'd first thought. I loved getting to know this new side of Ramon and I found myself warming to him more and more as the story progressed. It soon became obvious that these two boys were just about perfect for one another.

This book was a much slower paced novel compared to Ruth Clampett's previous M/M romance, concentrating more on the development of Charlie and Ramon's relationship with the sex element taking a bit of a step back. Charlie and Ramon's story was a true tale of sweet love and with a few steamy scenes thrown in to heat things up, "Encore" was a story that I enjoyed reading, although I wouldn't have complained if there was just a little more heat. Lol! For me, my favourite part was the epilogue, which was a surprising treat. As well as being written from Ramon's POV, it also saw the coming together of all of the characters, including Jason and Dean from "Unforgiven". It was the best way to end the story.

and I know without a doubt he was meant to be my destiny."
If you love a swoony M/M romance this one is for you.

I can’t stop smiling as I write this, because I love Charlie and Ramon’s story so much!
Charlie is a computer programmer in LA. He’s a shy guy, usually keeps to himself, and tries to stay away from the dating scene. When his co-workers drag him out to a bachelorette party one night, at a strip club featuring male dancers, Charlie crosses paths with Ramon, the bartender at the club. Instantly captivated by the gorgeous young guy serving up drinks, Charlie finds himself curious and unable to stay away.
First of all, kudos to Ruth for coming up with such a unique plot! I’m sure there are other stories out there featuring male dancers and strip joints, but Clampett took this story in a whole different direction, and she added in some twists and turns and all the right things to make Encore stand out from other books.
I fell in love with Charlie after the first few pages of this book. I’m a nerd myself, so I think I feel a bit of a kindred connection to him. He’s such a sweet and funny person, and is very genuine. He has a huge heart, he’s compassionate (hello, look at how dedicated he is to his sister), and he’s so determined. But he’s vulnerable too, and even though he’s done everything in his power to keep himself away from situations that could potentially hurt him, he opens up to Ramon and feels so much passion for him.
I loved how the underlying theme of this story was romance, but there was so much action and some mystery elements incorporated into it. The blending of these different themes gave the story itself more depth, and aided in the development of the characters. And speaking of characters, Clampett did an amazing job of incorporating the secondary characters into the story, and giving them important roles right alongside the two main ones. Sasha is amazing, and the relationship she has with Charlie was inspiring to read.
I felt so many emotions when I was reading this story. I was on the edge of my seat for the angstier portions of the book. And there is so much passion within the pages of Encore. Budding romances that morph into passionate, heart bursting love is a trademark of Clampett’s writing, and I enjoy how she went about creating that within Encore.
Clampett did a great thing by branching off into the m/m genre. I can’t wait for her next title that falls into this arena.
Encore gets the Wordaholic Must Read seal of approval.

Liked so much of this but some were meh.
The mob aspect meh. Just not something that was needed to enhance the book. We know that Ramon is in trouble and has a dark past. the trouble alone is interesting but add in the mob in Miami and it gets more complicated than needed.
Charlie is a good character. He has been through alot and you are glad to see him find someone. It was hard to see him feel so disenchanted about his job. He loves his sister so much but does need to give her room to grow. And with Ramon’s help he does. I enjoyed seeing he work through his trust and jealousy issues to find love and acceptance. Him and Ramon were good for each other. They balanced one another.
Some things like the architects and the building seemed to come together very easily but that is good after all Ramon went through. The romance was sexy and sensual. We see these two fight there way through a lot to be together. We also see a few romances on the side begin that have you want more of the characters. You do get angry at Ramon at the beginning for his jerk ways but do understand why he did what he did. Glad that Charlie was able to forgive and help fight beside Ramon for a future and love.
A good sensual romance of love, forgiveness, letting go and finding your way.

Ruth Clampett is a new author to me and omg what a first book I choose to read by her, I was blown away by this love story and if you love M/M romance this is a must read.
Charlie and Ramon come from very different backgrounds and are very different people, Charlie a shy programmer, Ramon a dancer at a male revue show but as they say opposites attract. Charlie is dragged along to the show by his female work colleagues and the last thing he expects to happen is for him to be pulled up on stage by one of the hottest guys he has ever set eyes on. Charlie wants true love but will that be with Ramon who is still grieving the love of his life. Sometimes fate steps in when we least expect it and thats just what happened here.
Encore has it all, it's a love story about two guys who on the face of it are very different but as the story unfolds it becomes clear they are also very similar. I was drawn in from the blurb and this book did not disappoint I was hooked from the first chapter and I was not putting it down til I had read the last line. Sizzling chemistry, characters you will fall in love with and it's a real love story, yes they have their ups and downs, funny in parts and sad in parts. If you have never read M/M you will love this book and if you love M/M you must read Encore.

I listened to this as an audiobook I got from the library.(thank God) I have to say the narrator,Eric Landon, deserves four and a half stars... However, the book was a mess.
Who can like a book where both main characters are so unlikeable? I’ll start with Charlie. He’s supposed to be smart, but he acts like a spoiled third grader. He’s a stalker, which is creepy, and he often acts in a totally irrational way. He gets mad over nothing and is always being jealous for no reason. He also never listens to advise. He had me so frustrated I wanted to chock him.
Then there is Ramon. He’s obsessed with his dead lover and constantly talks about him. He rejects Charlie without explanation and then suddenly shows up and throws himself at him. He refuses to listen as well and keeps putting himself in dangerous situations.
On top of that this book is an eye roller. So many miraculous things happen that I was beginning to think I was reading a fantasy instead of a romance.

Once again Ruth has shown us her undeniable talent for writing the geek that we all want to know.
Encore is a stand alone novel that sweeps you in from the first chapter making it very difficult indeed to put down. It's fast paced chapters are filled with emotion, humour & compassion so beautifully written.
As with all Ruth's other books Encore is based in LA & I love how she succeeds in making the city as central to the book as the characters themselves. Her attention to detail is throughout & this allows you to be further immersed into the plot line that little bit more. While I really enjoyed Charlie & Ramon's story, Ruth also introduces many minor characters each with their own little tales to tell. I would happily read any other books from these characters if she were ever to expand them.
At times I did want to shake Charlie & tell him get over himself so I can only credit this to the writing & the emotions I felt while sharing on Charlie's journey.
Encore leaves you with a happy feeling that shows you that the most unexpected life changing event can take place even when you least expect it.

Parts of this story I adored. Charlie was sweet and smart and nerdy and hot and naive. While Ramon was, well, hot of course but there were things he did that confused me. I mean, he was smart enough to get his college degrees and yet he was so stupid when it came to Miami. Why? I get that he was stubborn when it came to opening his club on his own. But there's stubborn and then there's stupid, and he crossed that line several times. It was frustrating for me. But, overall this was a good story, a hot story, a sweet story that was worth the frustration. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.

There are so many levels of awesomeness in this book, I'm not sure where to start. Ms. Clampett has written another winner. This book is not just a beautiful love story with depth and incredible characters, but in essence an ode to LA! I can't wait to see what comes next!

Encore is Ms. Clampett’s second book in the m/m genre. Many may or may not know, but Unforgiven was the first m/m Ruth Clampett wrote. For those of you that read Unforgiven, Encore is not as emotionally charged.
Charlie is a quiet and shy computer programmer, he’s also the sole caregiver to his younger sister, Sasha. Charlie somehow gets convinced to go to an all-male revue by his female co-workers.
While getting a very sexy dance from a beautiful girl, he’s not really feeling it until she switches off with a male dancer, and Charlie is immediately taken with the olive-skinned Latino shaking his tail-feather. Not everyone knows about Charlie’s sexual preference, it is not that he’s ashamed, he just doesn’t want to have to deal with the ignorance. Yet he’s really into this sensual dancer, when he finds out his the hot bartender, Ramon.
Ramon was an enigma to me for sure. He exuded sexual appeal, and Charlie was all over that for sure. Charlie could not get enough of the hot dancer, so much so, he asked a very private dance. Ramon exuded sex and he too was attracted to Charlie, there wasn’t any doubt, he even had a nickname for him, Prince Charlie (can I get an awww?) But Ramon was holding back and Charlie really wanted to get to know Ramon.
I will be honest, I thought the story was going to be more on the suspenseful side, which it did for a little bit, but got resolved quickly. I would have loved a little more drama to unfold, instead of Charlie trying to figure out why Ramon was pushing him away. And although Charlie was comfortable with his sexuality, he was very insecure. I did love his relationship with his sister Sasha. When you read why she is wheelchair bound and why Charlie is always there, it will break your heart a little.
I love that Ms. Clampett is taking on a different genre with her writing chops. I love me a hot geeky nerd and add a hot Latino exotic dancer, well my reading heart is all kinds of happy. I really love Ms. Clampett’s writing, I just wanted a little bit more drama to have unfolded, having said that, I still enjoyed Charlie and Ramon’s love story.

Okay. First things first. Disclaimer: I DNF. I was flicking pages at 60%, gave up and closed the cover at 80%. Second disclaimer: Reviews are subjective and to each their own. The only book prior to Encore of Ruth Clampetts' that I've read was Unforgiven, a brilliant, angst filled dramatic love story. So, so good. So imagine my delight when a new M/M of hers novel hit the shelves.
Yeah, not so much.
So disappointed with this newest addition to her library. I was reading it and by chapter two I was thinking "why have you changed such a winning formula?" By chapter three I was shaking my head. So why didn't I like Encore? I think it was mostly because it was too busy and lost its way right from the get go.
Let me explain:
Charlie, shy nerdy programmer hits around late 20's or so and hasn't had a real relationship ever. He hasn't even been completely intimate with any man due to family circumstances beyond his control, and his last sexy times was over six years ago. His lack of intimacy stems from a traumatic event that changed the dynamics of his family leaving him and his lovely sister Sasha orphaned. Sasha came out worse for wear and ended up a paraplegic. The siblings are close and live together, with Charlie the bread winner. His sister is no burden and their affection to obvious. Charlie is also not openly gay, why I don't really know, there wasn't any real justification as to why he wasn't and for all intents and purposes, his family life was excellent before it all dramatically changed.
Charlie meets Ramon, a sexy stupidly good looking bartender one night after he is coerced to go out on a bachelorette outing with girlfriends from work. It's lust at first sight for Charlie when Ramon decides to spontaneously lap dance on Charlie as a part of the night's activities.
Ramon, an extroverted man with a painful past. He lost the love of his life two years ago to cancer and hasn't found a true connection with another man since. He works as a bartender and part time dancer at 'Wild Things' the straight stripper club where he and Charlie meet. His real dream is to open a gay dance club. He's not a total Neanderthal arm candy though, because along the way he got a degree in business while playing football at college. Still all good so far, but for me, it’s from the next chapter that it all starts unraveling.
So Charlie's libido has finally woken up after a six year hiatus. He is so consumed with lust for Ramon, he goes back to the club and instead of asking the man out on a date, pays for a private lap dance with him. Meh what was the man thinking? After a very sexy thirty minutes where there is no doubt Charlie is hooked line and sinker what does Charlie do? But tell Ramon he wants to hire him again. Really? And who said romance was dead?
So instead of taking the relationship down a normal course it went skewiff. Instead of Ramon going to the Police with evidence which might help his and Charlie's cause, Ramon does as he's told, and when he tells Charlie it's all over, he breaks Charlie’s heart in the process.
Weeks later, slowly emerging from a pit of despair, with the help of Sasha and her carer Emily, Charlie tries online dating where he finally break out of his funk and goes out on the town with Chris, and extroverted hook-up. At a gay bar Charlie runs into a very drunk Ramon. The two men share a sexy time sort of, and we finally find out why Ramon ditched the enraptured Charlie. Charlie is angry at Ramon and doesn't like this version of the sexy dancer. I take it, it’s the groping, blowjob giving, drunk, want you even though I lied and said I didn't want you version.
In the wake of that reveal, Charlie and Ramon finally bury their pitchforks and try to kick start their relationship again, safe in the knowledge that the bad guy Marcus has been arrested interstate and is out of their hair for good so it’s now full on sexy times. Suddenly with all this pent up angst, Charlie turns into an all Alpha male dominate Top ( yep I rolled my eyes at that too) and Ramon delights in his submissive side. *cough*.
Loved up as they are, Ramon decides he has to go back to Miami to catch up his old friends Ernesto and Ermano and Miriana, his reasons are so vague you could cover your windshield in them and still see to drive. I get the gist it's so he can maybe sort his life out for his planned gay dance club, because he doesn't want any financial assistance from Charlie at all. While Ramon is ditching the ever sucker Charlie and catching United Air, Charlie is contacted by a worried Miriana who explains that Ernesto has been killed and Ramon's life is at stake if he comes to Miami. Additionally Ermano and Miriana need to see Ramon in person to hand him over a painting that belonged to Ernesto, can Charlie organise this at the airport?

At this stage I DNF. Yep I shut the cover and imagined myself pouring a much needed whiskey neat. Not many books I don't finish but seriously it was just too painful to read anymore. .
So, maybe it’s me. Maybe it isn't. For me personally I found the book very tiring to read, so many subplots that really drained my mental enjoyment of what might have been a good book if just one of those subplot has been the shining star of the story. Like perhaps Charlie and Ramon having a connection and going from there, which they started off doing but got way too muddied for me.
Unforgiven was an excellent story. Encore was not. Maybe I'm a hard marker, I don't know. I read a lot, maybe between 10-15 books a week and 99.9% of that is M/M books. Sure I don't write, so I can't say for certain that it was awful or it was my just particular taste. I must admit though I was very, very disappointed overall. I rated it 3 stars because I just read, I don't write and I can only imagine how hard it is to write something and then publish it. I leave the decision up to you was to whether to read this or not. I was just thankful I got it through Kindle Unlimited, if I had paid for it, which if I like or love a book I do buy them, I would have been more annoyed at such a waste of my money.
Yeah, not so much.
So disappointed with this newest addition to her library. I was reading it and by chapter two I was thinking "why have you changed such a winning formula?" By chapter three I was shaking my head. So why didn't I like Encore? I think it was mostly because it was too busy and lost its way right from the get go.
Let me explain:
Charlie, shy nerdy programmer hits around late 20's or so and hasn't had a real relationship ever. He hasn't even been completely intimate with any man due to family circumstances beyond his control, and his last sexy times was over six years ago. His lack of intimacy stems from a traumatic event that changed the dynamics of his family leaving him and his lovely sister Sasha orphaned. Sasha came out worse for wear and ended up a paraplegic. The siblings are close and live together, with Charlie the bread winner. His sister is no burden and their affection to obvious. Charlie is also not openly gay, why I don't really know, there wasn't any real justification as to why he wasn't and for all intents and purposes, his family life was excellent before it all dramatically changed.
Charlie meets Ramon, a sexy stupidly good looking bartender one night after he is coerced to go out on a bachelorette outing with girlfriends from work. It's lust at first sight for Charlie when Ramon decides to spontaneously lap dance on Charlie as a part of the night's activities.
Ramon, an extroverted man with a painful past. He lost the love of his life two years ago to cancer and hasn't found a true connection with another man since. He works as a bartender and part time dancer at 'Wild Things' the straight stripper club where he and Charlie meet. His real dream is to open a gay dance club. He's not a total Neanderthal arm candy though, because along the way he got a degree in business while playing football at college. Still all good so far, but for me, it’s from the next chapter that it all starts unraveling.
So Charlie's libido has finally woken up after a six year hiatus. He is so consumed with lust for Ramon, he goes back to the club and instead of asking the man out on a date, pays for a private lap dance with him. Meh what was the man thinking? After a very sexy thirty minutes where there is no doubt Charlie is hooked line and sinker what does Charlie do? But tell Ramon he wants to hire him again. Really? And who said romance was dead?

Sorry, this was a DNF for me at 57%. The storyline was very clunky and the writing style didn't flow for me. Some of the scenes with Ramon and Charlie seemed like that of junior high kids making out before mom and dad got home.
The major conflict with Marcus magically disappears with two sentences. It's as if the author got tired of that angle and wrote it out of the story. Unfortunately, it lost my interest completely by midway through the book and I gave up.

A good love story about two men who couldn’t be more different. Charlie is a software programmer, a bit of a geek, who is dragged into a nightclub where one of his co-workers is having her bachelorette party. He has never had a boyfriend, isn’t even out, but he falls head over heels for Ramon, the sexy bartender/dancer. Ramon isn’t looking for a guy as he is still grieving over his lover’s death, but in Charlie, he sees something different.
This story is written in the present tense and I have to be honest that that is not my preferred format. Therefore I had some trouble getting in the story. Once I got used to it I could appreciate the flowing writing style. It was fast paced and engaging. There were some surprising twists that kept me interested in the story.
As the story is told from Charlie’s POV I got quite a good grasp on Charlie’s character, lesser so of Ramon’s, though. What I could read about Ramon is that he is a hard worker, a dreamer, naïve in certain ways and too stubborn to accept help. I didn’t find Charlie the most sympathetic of characters. He didn’t have much self-confidence about his appearance and his appeal to other men. There is nothing wrong with that, but he kept on whining about it and I didn’t really see him changing. He is also very jealous, which I can’t relate to at all, and again that didn’t change. Having said that, he is a devoted brother to his wheelchair-bound sister, Sasha. Sasha, by the way, is a darling. Feisty and sweet. She brings an extra level to the story.
It is the prerogative of the writer to write their characters the way they want, even as I, as reader, don’t like them very much. That being said, Ruth Clampett did a good job building the romance between Charlie and Ramon and describing their growing feelings toward each other. I could feel the chemistry between the two men and there are some hot steamy scenes. The first dance was smoking. Ramon handled Charlie’s jealousy really well.
She interweaves the romance between the two men with a love for Los Angeles. Her descriptions of the city of angels are vivid and animated.
Another character I like to mention is Madame Fontanoy, Ramon’s neighbor. She is a former movie star and a flamboyant woman, who gives the two men some much-needed advice.
All in all, I found this a good story that certainly is worth reading.

I've never read anything by author Ruth Clampett before, though I have heard of her, and when I saw this book, I knew that Encore would be the perfect place to start. A shy, nerdy guy, a stripper ... sign me up! The cover might have had something to do with it, too, because, did you see it? Nice, right? I'm all about opposites attracting and what could be more opposite than a geek and a stripper? Encore was a pleasant surprise. A sweet romance that has it's very steamy moments, characters that were likable and genuine, and a supporting cast that helped round out the story.
Charlie has spent most of his life taking care of his disabled sister. He's a bit obsessed with work, shy, and at times endearingly awkward. His co-workers cajole him into going with them to a strip club where Charlie has no idea his whole life is about to change. One lap dance from the slinky, sexy Ramon and all the conflicting and confusing sexual feelings Charlie has had all his life come crashing to the forefront. It isn't easy for Charlie to admit he's attracted to Ramon, that he's gay, when he's kept it to himself for so long. There is quite a bit of back and forth for him during a lot of the book, and while this makes sense, it doesn't make for the easiest of reading. At times it was frustrating and it was hard to connect to Charlie.
Ramon has his own secrets, his own past to overcome, no matter how much he's into Charlie. The story is told from Charlie's POV so we don't always know Ramon's motivations and feelings, but from the get go it was easy to see there was something palpable between him and Charlie. There was a definite connection, both physical and emotional, so it was easy to root for these guys to find their way. I'll be honest, it drag for me in a few places, but all in all, I was completely engaged. The secondary characters added depth and the plot, though on the predictable side, was pleasing and the writing flowed well.
Encore is a book about discovery and love. It shows how even two people who seemingly have nothing in common can fall in love and be happy. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and I recommend you check it out.

The last thing he expects though is to be pulled on stage by one of the hottest guys he has ever seen in his life. When Ramon dances for Charlie bringing him the greatest pleasure he has ever know, something awakens in Charlie that can not be denied. However heated attraction only goes so far and Charlie has dreams of true love and finally a fulfilled life. Ramon though is still grieving the one he lost and a mistake that could cost him everything. Can a realist and a dreamer coming from completely different worlds move forward together and build a future together or will their past keep them from fulfilling their destiny?
Encore is a m/m romance. Oh what a romance it is too. I loved Charlie and Ramon each as characters. They are polar opposites. Charlie is a numbers guys and thinks everything through to the fullest before he ever does anything. He is super responsible and the way he cares for his sister will melt your hearts. I have such respect for this characters. He has endured a lot and put himself last always. Even when it comes to his happiness. Ramon came for a poor family and has huge dreams of being a club owner one day. He however was young and trusted the wrong people in Miami and that could cost him everything. He has also loved and lost fairly quickly but knows that is is like to be free and who he is unlike Charlie. You could say they are poplar opposites. There is also a whole cast of other characters in the book for you to fall in love with to. They are all equally amazing and I was invested in this book and how everyone's lives might turn out.
Encore is a beautiful story that will keep you one your toes and cheering for all the characters as you read. The love story captured my heart and I rooted so hard for what I wanted to happen to happen. Thank goodness it did. This was also the first book I have read by Ruth Clampett and I loved every second of it. She has an amazing writing style and has to have a huge heart because you can feel it pouring from the pages. I can't wait to read something else she has written. If your a fan of m/m romances Encore is a must read. If you have never read a m/m romance Encore is a great one to be your first one. Your going to love it, I promise.
