Miss Jarecki usually writes historical romance. Out of curiosity, I picked up Hunt for Evil. which is contemporary military romance. To my surprise, I like it. The blend between action and romance is not in balance. There is more action compare to romance. Despite of that, I still like it.
There are a lot of technical jargon too. I thought it could be difficult for me to follow, but to my surprise I am OK. Since I am romance junkie, I need more of romance aspect to the story.
Hunt for Evil is the first book in the ICE series by Amy Jarecki. Known for her Scottish Historical romances, this is a break from the norm for this author.
Logan Rodgers is a Navy Seal, top in his game and a well respected commander. When he comes to the attention of the elite International Clandestine Enterprise, ICE, they decide that they want him working for them. A powerful organisation they get the Navy to give him an honourable discharge and then offer him a position with them.
Olivia Hamilton is a valued asset to MI6. She too has come to the attention of ICE and finds herself discharged from her job and offered a position with ICE.
Logan and Olivia had met once previously when Logan had to rescue Olivia from a terrorist owned yacht, one that the Seals were about to blow up, not knowing that there was an MI6 operative onboard. Olivia had spent two years infiltrating the terrorist group, and within 24 hours she would have had the leader of the group in her hands. She was less than pleased when the mission was ruined thanks to Logan and his mission!
Their first meeting at ICE headquarters is a tension filled one, and that only escalates when they discover that they have to work undercover together posing as husband and wife. They may act like they don't like each other, but lust is rife for them both. Lust that can go nowhere though considering they work together in a job where relationships aren't encouraged.
Logan and Olivia also have very personal baggage to deal with, with Olivia also having the added trauma of seeing her parents killed by the very man that they are now charged with finding and arresting. The same man that she nearly got hold of when she worked her last mission. Her need for revenge is barely restrained.
Intel have discovered that blonde hair young pretty women are being kidnapped, and it is Logan and Olivia's mission to discover where they are and rescue them.
What follows is a thrilling story of special ops filled with danger, excitement, and intense moments. Add to that the growing feelings between Logan and Olivia, and the fabulous way their romance didn't take over the story, but only enhanced it and you have a very believable story. I have read many of this authors Historical Romance novels, and it was with a little trepidation that I decided to read this book. It's not a genre I normally read, and I was worried that I wouldn't like it. I am happy to say that I need not have worried. This book kept me hooked from beginning to end, there was never a dull moment, and I couldn't read it quickly enough, especially after Olivia makes sure she is one of the kidnapped women. The way the women suffer at the mercy of their captors brought tears to my eyes! The author has certainly proven to me that her talent not only lies in Historical Romance and I am very much looking forward to the next book in this ICE series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.
Great job stepping out of your genre niche, author! New covert task force hiring the best of the best. Just so happens that both our H and h are hired. This was a very good book.
This review us based on the ARC received from the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I wasn't sure what to expect, when I learned that Jarecki was stepping into the thriller and suspense genre. I knew her work as a historical romance author, but I wondered if a transition into writing something as different as this book would be successful. Well, let me tell you, I think that she is a SMASHING success!
Logan and Olivia's story was full of danger, action, mystery, intrigue and quite a bit of all around badassery! And, the simmering chemistry between the two of them nearly set the pages on fire. I absolutely could not put this book down. I was simply riveted by the plot line and all of the twists and turns it made as it barreled full speed ahead.
Jarecki has proven her expertise and versatility as an author, and I am excited about where she will take the ICE series.
*I received a complimentary copy of this story through NetGalley in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Hunt For Evil begins with Navy SEAL Commander Logan Rodgers having to get MI6 spy Olivia Hamilton off a yacht owned by an ISIS terrorist before it gets blown sky high. This gets him off to a pretty poor start with Olivia, since she was right on the verge of a major breakthrough in her undercover operation. When they are both sent to work for ICE, the International Clandestine Enterprise, sparks fly between the two competent operatives.
This is an excellent, page-turning story with lots of action and suspense. Olivia has a pretty serious case of PTSD from spending too long undercover, and she really shouldn't be in the field. She's covering it up because she's desperate to take down the terrorist who caused her parents' deaths.
While I enjoyed this one, there were a couple of things that soured it for me. There were a couple of fairly gigantic plot holes - it does NOT take four days to scramble helicopters to Syria, for example - that the author had clearly shoved in hoping the audience would overlook, because she needed it for the timeframe of the story. That sort of thing makes me wince.
Logan had a couple of moments of being a complete ass, and the big one for me was near the end of the book. Without being too spoilery, after they finished their mission, Logan totally disregards Olivia's wishes and does what HE thinks is best for her. This is a major nope-out moment for me, and to be honest if I hadn't been so close to the end of the book I'd probably have put it aside and not finished it. That moment took the book from a five-star read down to a three.

Amy Jarecki steps out of her historical comfort zone and nails it! A smashing debut to a new series!
Former SEAL Logan Rodgers and MI6 operative Olivia Hamilton met when the cover op Logan was leading went awry. Olivia had dedicated two years of her life getting close to a terrorist, and it all went up in smoke when the US Navy’s equipment failed. They are soon recruited by ICE, International Clandestine Enterprise, a secret NATO group, dedicated to eradicating terrorism. Olivia suffers from PTSD, no wonder, with what she experienced in her last undercover mission. Logan and Olivia are both alpha personalities who would clash to death, were it not for the inescapable attraction they find hard to fight when they are thrown together on their first mission for ICE as husband and wife…
Amy Jarecki is a fabulous historical fiction author, and Hunt For Evil is her first foray into contemporary romantic suspense, and she owns it! I can hardly imagine the amount of research that went into this book. Ms. Jarecki is known for her terrific characters, and Olivia and Logan are as complex as they come. I love that Olivia is a real kick-butt heroine! The author has crafted a fantastic spy agency and the whole environment is reminiscent of James Bond, Jason Bourne or Mission Impossible. I loved that Iceland is where the agency’s headquarters is located, the various locations where the action takes places, the fabulous gadgets, heart-stopping action, and both Olivia and Logan who could qualify as deadly weapons. There is a wonderful cast of international secondary characters, and I cannot wait to see who will be the next stars and what their missions will be.
As a suspense story, Hunt For Evil ranks with the best of them, the plot is air-tight, the pace is relentless, plot twists abound; it never stops! As for the romance, I would have preferred more of a slow burn; I found Olivia and Logan mentally drooling over each other for so long a bit tiring, but once the action seriously started, I got over that quickly. There is surgery involved at some point, I was dreading how it would end, but thank goodness, Ms. Jarecki handled it masterfully. The writing is excellent, so are the dialogues, and apart from the fact that Hunt For Evil is a superb action story, I think what impressed me the most is how well Amy Jarecki – who is known for her historical romances – effortlessly switched genres. One would think that the author’s specialty was romantic suspense! Hunt For Evil is a smashing debut to a new series!

Hunt for Evil by Amy Jarecki is #1 in her new series, "ICE". While, Ms. Jarecki is known for award winning Historical Scottish Romance, she just proved herself to me, as a Romantic Suspense author, as well.
HUNT FOR EVIL is definitely one of those WOW stories. I was completely blown away by the cast of characters, the plot, and her descriptions. Very talented indeed!
Fast paced, action packed tale of an international group of retired Navy SEALs, and MI6 agents who battle terriorists, and evil in the world. A very elite International Clandestine Enterprise known as ICE.
Navy SEAL Commander Logan Rodgers and Olivia Hamilton, an MI6 assets find themselves in a world of danger, passion, an ISIS kidnapping ring, a madman's hell, love and a battle of survival. I was glued to the pages from the first page and it gripped my attention through the entire story. Never a dull moment! The storyline flows seamlessly and effortlessly. Tissues are needed. Do note, there is violence, romance and love contained in this exciting first ICE series.
If you are looking for an action packed with never a dull moment story, then HUNT FOR EVIL, is your next Romantic Suspense read! My hat goes off to Amy Jarecki! Very impressive, indeed! I look forward to the next ICE adventure. I look forward to BODY SHOT, book 2 coming soon.
I came to know Amy Jarecki’s writing through her historical romances and fell in love. Her historicals are loaded with action, intrigue, danger, suspense, and passion. I’m passionate about her writing. But the most wonderful thing is, she’s able to write just as mean a contemporary romantic suspense. Boy, does she get my adrenalin pumping!
With a flip of the switch, language changes I’m in the here and now, same great gripping emotional conflicts, just in a world as dangerous as times of old. I loved the way she uses the here and now, the fears we have today in this story --ISIS, human trafficking, selling weapons illegally, etc. She makes it so real. Amy takes us into the stench of evil, you'll smell it and feel it. She’s certainly done her homework.
I enjoyed the narrator. I hadn’t listened to anything of his before. He handles the accents admirably. I liked his Scandinavian accent a lot. It took me back to my great aunts and uncles. He does American, British and German in this story as well. There is one voice I swear sounded just like GEICO, the lizard from the insurance company. She was the Director of Administration for ICE. He had me snickering. She was something of a lizard in personality, too!
Olivia is a dynamo, she’s revenge on her mind. After joining ICE, she suggests to Garth, the head director, that they recruit Logan Rogers, someone who had saved her life in a very botched mission.
Olivia and Logan create sparks just being in the same. Logan is hooked (but wary), but Olivia doesn’t want to get close to anyone. As the story heats up, so does their relationship. But it’s an on again and off again thing with Olivia. They have a mission they need to accomplish, they both need to focus. Olivia is determined to take down the man who has plagued her nights for years with nightmares.
If you like the thrill of the chase, with danger, injury and possible death, (gads!) you’ll be absolutely pulled into Jarecki’s riveting and mind-boggling series. I had already read book 2 of this series. I just had to catch book 1, Hunt for Evil.

Plot: 4/5 Characterisation: 3.5/5 Prose: 4/5 How much I enjoyed it: 4/5
I had enjoyed Amy Jarecki's historical romances so I was looking forward to her venture into Romantic Suspense (my favourite subgenre).
The plot is surprisingly simple and straight-forward. There's not much surprise to who the villians are, the evil plans or the outcome of the mission. What drives the story forward is the developing romance between Logan and Olivia.
Unfortunately, I wasn't as enthusiastic about the romance. I love Olivia's character, her soft side despite her outer steel wall, her need for vengeance and her willingness to do anything to achieve it. Logan was the typical cookie-cutter alpha jock (or rather cowboy). I would have enjoyed the story more if Logan's character was fleshed-out more.
Still, its a good book for those who are trying out the Romantic Suspense genre for the first time as it has an uncomplicated plot.
Great writing from Amy Jarecki, who masters the Historical novels and has now written a winner with this contemporary! A+++ Thrilling Special Ops tale! The exciting story about a special, very secret Elite Global network whose only goal is to stop Terrorism. Logan Rodgers was just released from the Navy. Not what he wanted, he loved serving his country and being apart of the Navy SEALs. He is shocked to learn why he was released, ICE (International Clandestine Enterprise) wants him. Making an offer he can't refuse he agrees and travels to Iceland to start his training. Olivia Hamilton, MI16, has just been rescued from a terrorist group she has been deep undercover with. She had to live, eat and unfortunately sleep with enemy! Just before she captures the No 1 terrorist, Rodgers' SEAL team unwittingly set explosives to the yacht. He rescues her but not before blowing her case! She now finds herself out of MI16 and also recruited for ICE. Logan and Olivia become partners and find themselves after their old nemesis. This time they first have to rescue young girls who have been kidnapped for the terrorist's personal harem. Olivia once again goes deep undercover and must not only battle the enemy but also battle "old demons". Can Rodgers rescue her again... Great story that flows from start to finish. Love that the heroine is just as tough as the hero. Both characters have depth and a wide range of emotions. The story between the two have closure at the end, yet there is an ongoing storyline that will continue into the next book
Wow! I love Amy's Highlander books and normally do not read contemporary romance but had to give it a try! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Logan and Olivia's story! When I was reading I could envision that it was happening. Very action packed story that grabs your attention and keeps it! If you love contemporary romance you will definitely don't want to miss this one. I am so glad I ventured out of my norm to read this story! I received an ARC copy for being in Amy's readers group and I am so glad I read this one!
If you enjoy an alpha main couple deeply embedded in a spy turns rescue mission backdrop, you may want to check into book 1 of this series by Amy Jarecki. There were tons of details at first and basically you felt like you were walking along side this dynamic duo as they were sequestered in a remote training location then assigned out into the field to chase after the bad guys. Well, that is after an explosive first meeting when separate missions didn’t go as planned.
As an avid romantic at heart, I struggled to accept the concept of how far this heroine previously went in the past to defeat the enemy. She’s even admitted she’s sacrificed too much of her soul and body in the pursuit of fighting evil doers. Let’s just say she gives true meaning to the expression sleeping with the enemy. Even though she did it with an intended, long range purpose, it still didn’t sit well with me. Many might argue that same unswayable determination is what shaped her into the fighting warrior she became and helped her summon the courage to carry through a life-threatening, but life-saving mission which saved many lives.
Throw in the fact the type of kidnapping ring they were trying to bust just isn’t somewhere I want to mentally go, I was often close to choosing not to finish this one, folks. However, I found myself having to know how it all worked out. I was rewarded with an uncompromising strong heroine, who literally walks right into the lion’s den, and does whatever it takes to get the job done, along with a refusing to give up on her hero, who always has her back.
Yes, there were some bumps in the road. The past brief flashback of a bedroom scene with a villainous other man for one. The hero spewing an uncalled for hurtful, make that hateful, accusation wasn’t necessary. After the dramatic showdown, it didn’t seem likely debriefing wasn’t a top priority. I also found myself skimming over the last 20% or so. The conclusion kind of seemed to ramble on a bit. So though most of the time the writing was engaging, there were portions it wasn’t.
Book 2, Body Shot, looks like it will be even better, folks. Since I received an ARC of it as well, I’ll be reading it next in the very near future.
Title: Hunt for Evil, Series: ICE (Book 1), Author: Amy Jarecki, Pages: 304, stand-alone but part of a series, went too far for the cause heroine, disturbing kidnapping ring, a few very steamy scenes, one reference to another character being brutally raped, no cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama, some violence.

We start with Logan and his crew on a mission and when something goes wrong he has no choice but to go onto the boat that is targeted and grab the operative that is undercover..
Olivia is so close to finally getting what she has been working so hard for the last two years. That is until she finds herself being grabbed and hauled in the water by Logan. Her whole mission has just been destroyed.
Working undercover ate a person from the inside out, and it had cost Olivia more than she wanted to admit.
Fate brings these two together again when Logan finds himself being discharged from the Navy and being hired by ICE. Olivia also starts working for ICE and she finds out she will be working with Logan, posing as husband and wife. While together they start to develop quite the attraction for each other.
I can handle you any night, anytime, anywhere.
There is so much more to this great read. Olivia suffers from the nightmare she endured undercover, I would say she has a little PTSD. Logan also suffers from some of his own demons which makes these two perfect for each other. I was on edge the whole time, I couldn’t wait to see what was coming next. There is action, suspense, and two tough as nails characters. The ending was great it leads them into another mission. I am looking forward to reading “Body Shot” book 2 in the series. Amy Jarecki does a great job of pulling you right in with her writing. 1-click and get started today.

When missions collide Navy SEAL Commander Logan Rodgers saves MI6 asset, Olivia Hamilton only for their intended assignments to fail miserably. When the dust settles Logan and Olivia find themselves the recipients of an invitation to join a highly secretive organization called the International Clandestine Enterprise (ICE) that is not optional. Deep cover and danger draw Logan and Olivia into a web of intrigue and deception as they fight for the well being of the world, their lives and possession of each other’s hearts.
Widely lauded historical romance writer Amy Jarecki's has taken the plunge into romantic suspense and may have released one the most exciting books of the year. Known for her extensive research and action filled fast paced plots Ms. Jarecki continues this trend but adapts to her new genre like a seasoned pro in book one of her ICE series, Hunt For Evil. This was an extremely well thought out story with no lulls. The characters were interesting, the details phenomenal and every word took on meaning. Logan was the kind of hero that pretty much anyone looking for the perfect book boyfriend might consider as a candidate. Olivia offered complicated in massive doses and Ms. Jarecki did a fine job of showing all this character's "warts" while managing to make her likeable. Theirs was not an easy romance but the deeper this couple delved into the shadowy world of reconnaissance the more their connection sizzled and popped. Hunt for Evil is a must read for anyone who loves adventure and romance!

THIS IS AMY'S BEST STORY TO DATE!!! There aren't enough stars for this one. This is super spies, terrorists, action and hot romance. It is a happy for now with more coming in the near future and I can't wait!
Logan and Olivia meet on a op that goes sideways. Logan is a SEAL and Olivia works for MI6. As usual the two governments aren't keeping each other in the communications loop and Logan is ordered to sink the ship Olivia is deep undercover on. He has to get her off the ship since he can't shut off the bombs he set because of defective ordinance. Awesome set up as she wants to kill him at the time for screwing up her chance to take down the leader of ISIS Fahd al-Umari the next day! The terrorist is the one who killed her parents and she's almost got him!
The book is the story of a super secret NATO black-ops organization, ICE, that these two fine agents get force recruited into by their respective agencies. The series will be a trilogy of their hunt for Fahd al-Umari and the havoc he and his cohorts spew all over the world. This particular book deals with arms deals and kidnapping-human trafficking. Amy puts real faces to this evil and gives us a believable adventure. I adore these two super agents finding trust and love in each other, the spy and the military commander. Can't wait to get my hands on the next story. Thank you Amy for the opportunity to be your Beta reader and part of your ARC reader group.
ICE: International Clandestine Enterprises – an elite multi-national but independent entity devoted to fighting terrorists (and evil) manned by the best of the best recruited from around the world.
Fast-paced action-packed thrilling suspense, with a bit of romance, made this one book I had trouble putting down. In book one the reader meets Navy SEAL Commander Logan Rodgers out on a mission that goes wonky requiring him to save an MI6 spy Olivia Hamilton from certain death. A few months later the two meet again after being recruited to work for ICE. They are sent on assignment together posing as a couple and are to find a terrorist and bring him down. During the assignment they uncover what is happening to women being kidnapped and used for nefarious purposes. The entire book Logan and Olivia are professional though definitely attracted to one another – even spending some quality time between the sheets while on assignment. This book has radical extremists, kidnapping, evil aplenty, personal demons for the H/h to overcome and interesting characters throughout. At the end of the book two more characters are introduced that will no doubt star in book two and I do look forward to finding out what their story will be.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I am used to reading Amy's Scottish highlanders but she knocked this one out of the park as well!
Navy Seal Logan Rodgers has devoted his life to the Seals. But when a mission goes awry nothing is the same again. Terrorism is at its highest and most dangerous. And this mission just let one of the worst right through their hands.
Olivia Hamilton is a British spy in deep cover for two years. And she has sold her soul. But nothing will stop her from getting her revenge. Not even sexy Commander Rodgers. But with the mission a bust what will happen now?
A new agency is created with no political ties at all with the elite from every nation. Its sole purpose...to rid the world of terrorist. But when Logan and Olivia have to portray a married couple things get heated quick. And with kidnappings of white, blonde you g girls things must progress fast. Can these two overcome their demons from the past to complete the mission or will their feelings compromise everything?? Great start to this new series!!
Outstanding read. It's fast-paced, action-packed, keeps your attention and is so life-like you'd swear you were reading from a special ops mission manual. This author obviously did her homework. I found this book very real, raw, and true to our current time.
This book had me on the edge of my seat rooting for Logan and Olivia to overcome their inner demons because I thought they'd be perfect for each other. You'll have to read the book to see if they make it. There's action at every turn with tension that will have you gripping your book/reader. The book ends perfectly leaving and opening for book 2. Can't wait!
Internally, this book left me proud to be an American and thankful for the freedom we have in this country. It also made me grateful for what our military go through to keep us that way. Placing myself with the heroine had me picturing events that happened in the news and how they could have played out. It's eye-opening!
I think this will be an exciting series and I can't wait for the next book.
Hunt for Evil is the first book in a new series (ICE) by Amy Jarecki. The International Clandestine Enterprise (ICE) is an organization that is a secret. It is staffed by a number of elite soldiers with varying skills including espionage. Logan Rodgers, a Navy SEAL Commander due to a mission met Olivia Hamilton a spy for M16. Neither is really impressed with the other.
Move ahead a few months, they both find themselves as members of ICE and training together for a mission. The mission is one that is very dangerous and could have huge ramifications for both Logan and Olivia. Together and separate they have to depend on their own inner core and each other to survive.
ICE, the newest series was part thriller and part romance. I enjoyed the characters, the settings and the dangerous mission. Hunt for Evil by Amy Jarecki is a great start to a new romantic thriller series.
I know that Amy Jarecki usually writes historical romance but if this book is anything to go by she is going to rock at this new genre. Lots of action and the storyline had multiple threads to it. Olivia was a great character to read about and was such a strong characters who also had PTSD. I found her engaging with a sense of humor and a complex character who I completely enjoyed. Logan was also a fantastic character who was strong and also a very enjoyable with a caring side as well. I read this book in one sitting and even read the teaser for the next book in this series which I have to read!! If you like some suspense and action to your romance than this ICE series may be a good fit as it is made up of former spies, and military.
It took a bit for me to get into the story, but once it got going, it was hard to put down. The attraction between Olivia and Logan was fulfilling. His tenderness was endearing, and Olivia finally coming to terms with her own past to see what was right in front of her made the ending tugged at my heart. It was a bumpy ride for this couple, and I enjoyed it. I look forward to more in this series and hope to see glimpses of Olivia and Logan.
I received a copy of this story, and this is my unsolicited review.
I won ICE book 2 some time ago, and have decided to read the first 2. I am so glad I did, this is s really good story. The other explains how Logan was recruited, gives us Olivia's back story. You have to like Logan, he is a take charge type of guy and this author makes that personality shine through clearly. I don't really like Olivia, that could be just me. The brings in some real life issues, such as in this issue ICE goes after ISIS. The storyline is clear and flows freely. These ICE books seem to be fine as a stand alone.
Everything you could want in a book. Action, chemistry, alpha male, sassy and strong woman and kick ass storyline!
This is one of the best military action and romance books I've ever read. I'm am hooked in this author and this new series. These characters are great and this will keep you engaged from beginning to the end. On to book two.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book. Lots of action a complete change from the authors historical romance books. Logan and Olivia are some pair! This book is full of adventure and romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this spy thriller. Olivia Hamilton is an MI6 operative who has spent the past two years infiltrating an Islamic terrorist group. On the cusp of assassinating the head of the group, her mission is compromised by the US and she's saved b Navy SEAL Logan Rodgers. Months later they've both been recruited by ICE to fight the war on terror. I enjoyed the spy thriller portions of the story, I thought they were incredibly well written and page turning stuff. However the romance didn't work as well for me. Although I thought both main characters were interesting, Olivia was a little too closed off and broken, and Logan was a little too perfect to be a convincing romantic pairing. For him it was like pulling teeth, and for her she spent her time fighting flashbacks and refusing to accept there was a problem. I prefer my romances to be more equal. I'm happy for characters to have a bit of damage (it makes them more interesting) but I want them to remain equals and here I didn't really feel that they were. I would still recommend this book, I just hope the next will be a stronger romance.
