Rate this book
This is book 7 in the Lin Coffin Mystery series from USA TODAY Bestselling Author J A Whiting. Lin and her cousin, Viv, stop into a gift shop in Nantucket town and while browsing, Lin sees an antique Sailor's Valentine. The valentine, made of tiny beautiful shells, pulls at Lin and she decides to buy it and bring it home. At times, the object feels hot to the touch and sometimes the shells illuminate and dim in a sequenced pattern. Once in a while, the valentine makes appearances outside the house in places Lin happens to be. A ghost pays a visit, but Lin has no idea what he wants from her or what his link might be to the sailor's valentine. Just when Lin gets used to seeing ghosts along comes George.

Li n has adjusted to her life on the island, her landscaping business is going really well, and her paranormal work is also settling, she believes. On passing a display of sailors Valentine's Lin is overcome by this disturbing sensation, she feels drawn to pick up a particular Valentine and when she does so it feels so cold in her hand if almost feels like it's burning her hand. Viv, Lins's cousin noticing her distress tries to escort her out of the shop but before she can leave Lin feels compelled to buy the Valentine even though it makes her feel uneasy. So begins this next instalment in the Lin Coffin mysteries, this one is slightly different the ghosts seem to be hiding from Lin in this episode making it even more difficult than usual for Lin to work out what the mystery is surrounding the valentine. As usual with the help of her cousin Viv and her boyfriend Jeff, Anton her friend and Leonard her business partner they manage to work out the mystery and ease the ghosts suffering but not before events take a very curious and unusual turn.

In this newest novel we find ourselves hunting down the ownership of a two-hundred year old valentine brought in Bermuda and given to a recipient living in Nantucket. These were known as 'Sailor Valentines.'

Lin Coffin walking with her cousin, Viv finds herself drawn to a souvenir store selling an assortment of these valentines. One feels even warm to Lin. So, although the price was high, purchased the valentine.

The valentine has a secret, but, Lin is soon to learn her 'abilities' to see ghosts is expanding. Confused and trying to help the old seaman she has seen only once, Lin enlists her cousin's aid. And, how is Leonard, Lin's business partner, involved in this tale.

This is a mystery just made for Halloween. It is a good, honest, and not to scary ghost hunt. I recommend this series to those of us who enjoy the paranormal but don't want to wallow in horror.

I look forward to the next volume.

Love this series!

Absolutely love the Lin Coffin Mystery series! There are ghosts, a cat, a smart dog (who also sees ghosts), mysteries to solve (NO cliffhanger endings, thankfully), NO annoying editorial issues to distract me, lovely descriptions of Nantucket, and even the evil doers who are doing evil deeds aren’t really evil...what more could I ask of a book to read with my morning tea. A very enjoyable cozy series. I recommend all the books in this series and look forward to enjoying the next book as much as I enjoyed all the previous books.

Lin Coffin helps ghosts settle their past and helps them move on. This is a trait she inherited. The ghosts are from the past. She has help from her cozy group delving into Nantucket history. The stories are fun and fascinating with action and danger mixed in. She sees ghosts but is unable to communicate with them. Oh, but what is a mystery without twists, turns unpredictable outcomes. There are some interesting people sharing time with Lin, lately. Enjoyed the series through Kindle Unlimited.

A very good easy read

I have loved reading all of the Lin Coffin books , they are well written and very easy to read. The story lines keep you interested as you never know what is going to happen which does make you want to keep reading. I love the way the books all follow each other as you really get to know all the characters and actually feel part of their group. Keep writing I've only got one more to read!!

Sailors’ Valentines

I never heard of sailors’ valentines so it was fun to look them up. This was a great story, maybe my favorite of all the ones I’ve read so far. I nearly always return the books but I’m going to hang on to this one to enjoy again.

That being said, I have to mention that I always catch grammatical errors that a professional proofreader would notice. I overlook them because the descriptions of Nantucket transport me there.

Haunted Valentine

In this story Lin has to figure out what the new ghost in her life wants. Lin and Viv went to a store that sells collectables, Lin purchases an old Valentine box, little did she know it had a story to tell. Find out about the story by reading this, you can't put it down until the end story.

So hoping this is not the last one..

Every one of the books in this series, as well as the other books I have read are so excellent. The only hard part is when they end and I'm searching for another.
Endings are thoughtful surprises, including wise words one can live by. Characters are developing in their wisdom and interrelationships. Even the pets are a joy.

The answer is the box but it's keeping it's secret hidden.

The best one yet. A Valentine's Day gift of a box leads our heroine and the others into the hunt of what the box means and why strange happenings are taking place around her. Great to see how her gift is developing and the way the facts are unearthed. Another winner.

Thirty

Hey, the girls celebrated their thirtieth birthday with great guys. They are independent, but those two men are gifts from your imagination and heaven. I had my last son at thirty-five it was a breeze, just as my other three sons. I'd like the girls to be able to enjoy motherhood; iust don't want them to lose their personalities by a ring on their fingers.

This is a continuation of cozy mysteries that occur on Nantucket island. The woman who becomes involved with the murders solves them with the help of her cousin and boyfriend with clues supplied by ghosts only she can see. They are a fun, easy read. Each book is a stand-alone but at times refers to previous ones. I am binge reading them.

Great characters. Best friends helping to find clues together to solve a ghostly death. The writer made me feel the apparitions pain and loss. I felt his loss as well. Quick read full of mystery. Good job.

This was an interesting book based on the exploration of the meaning of deep friendships but in a different way. It isn't full of self help words but shows the effect of long term friendships. I really enjoyed this story.
