Vernon McKinnon creates a mythical world that is thoughtfully detailed. So intricate are the descriptions that the characters, cities, sights, and smells feel tangible. This book is more than a tale of lore, though fantasy, lovers will be satisfied. This is a story that layers the meaning of good and evil, darkness and light. The author sweeps you away by the side of the sorceress Runa, a woman plagued by foul dreams, and her adorable wampu, familiar, Mellypip. We are all headed to a place, a strange place, a desolate forest, that contains the tree of bones.
This story stands out for me, because the author chooses a detail for a reason. No word is superfluously added in order to fit into a niche. One believes that such a place as the Thill forest exist. Reading this book one will still start to imagine this place hidden in the bowels of a faraway world. One will believe that only dragons can feast upon the flesh of trolls or that tree, a frightful tree, holds secrets that only the reader can unfold.
Vernon McKinnon is a story-teller, a weaver of words that hums with the promise of a bright and long future. She is gifted in the skill to unlocking a trunk long tucked away in our youthful dreams.
The journey awaits, should you heed the calling, beware of beasts and ill-omens, for there’s a curse desiring to consume. Now go if you must but you have been warned.

What an intriguing, mystical and magical world you have created. With complex characters fighting for good and evil, a tension builds for the reader, we cheer on Runa and fear for her as Koll and his followers devise ways to destroy for darkness.

The amount of detail written for the characters, their familiars and the world they inhabit allows the reader to be totally immersed in the story and the struggle they are experiencing becomes real.

A great narrative I highly recommend.
