Who framed Charlie Hardwick? "Difficult to put down"... "Great book from a great author"... "Would recommend to anyone who likes crime"...
Sixteen years ago, Officer Charlie Hardwick was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his partner. Today, he has been exonerated for the crime and given his life back. In lieu of a massive settlement, he is now a homicide detective with the Chicago Police Department.
This is the second season of Hardwick - six episodes total, each with its own case for Charlie to solve while he attempts to put away the man responsible for his friend's murder:
Episode 7: Hunted The season premiere. A hunter is found dead in the woods... but it doesn't seem to be an accident. Also, Charlie and Sarah team up on their own mission.
Episode 8: Heritage Hundreds of witnesses watch a murder in real life, but nobody knows it's real.
Episode 9: Last Call A bartender shows up in a dumpster. The clues are right in front of the detectives' faces, but they can't see them.
Episode 10: Self Destruct How do you stop a wave of suicides? And how can there even be a murderer?
Episode 11: Smash Hit Chief Elliott teams up with another detective to solve a rock star's death.
Episode 12: This Means War A biker winds up dead on the side of the road. Lots of people know what happened - but none of them are talking to the police.
This is the second season in the ongoing clean crime fiction series Hardwick, a vigilante series about a police officer who went to jail for a murder he didn't commit. Now that he's out, Charlie Hardwick is a homicide detective. Each episode is a police procedural mystery, solving murders of the city while investigating the conspiracy behind his imprisonment. If you're looking for a clean murder mystery series to start, pick up Episode 1: Smokescreen right now and start the series!
Tom Meitner (me) is a father and husband who lives in Wisconsin.
They say if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself. A lot of fiction today doesn't speak to me - they're well written and have plenty of fans, so other authors are certainly doing it right. But me? I want something simple. I want something I can consume on my schedule. I want to be able to commit to a story, but have a clear point to break off when I have to get back to my real life.
So that's how I write.
My nonfiction books - based entirely on my experiences making stupid mistakes throughout my life - can all be read in under 2 hours apiece. My fiction books - including my current series, "Hardwick" - are arranged like episodes of an ongoing television show.
You can commit to the full series and keep on reading, or you can find a spot to take a break. It's reading on your schedule, with stories that move forward. I write the stories I would want to read. I hope you want to read them, too.
More than likely you have already read season 1. Charlie Hardwick is a cop who is imprisoned for killing his partner. Years later he is proven innocent and, instead of taking a huge settlement from the CPD, demands hi old job back. This doesn't sit well with a whole lot of higher ups, because they went to a lot of trouble to get him convicted and protect the real murderer. So the common thread of Season one was finding out who the real killer is. Each episode has its own crimes to solve. In Season 2 we know who the murderer is, an Alderman who is being protected at the highest levels. The common thread is proving that he did it and bringing him to justice, which isn't easy. Did I mention that he is being protected by a lot of higher ups? As usual, each episode has its own crimes to solve.
Just a little disappointed, guess after reading the other Hardwick books, which were terrific reads, this one is , well not sure what I want to say, maybe it was too much of the same, too cut and dried?? Get it and make your own decision. I thank Tom for giving me this book to do a review. Sorry I could not do better.
Charlie and his partner Sarah keep solving cases while on the clock, and spend the rest of their time digging into Charlie's case. They need to find the why, not just the who, behind Peter's murder. The stakes are getting higher and the twists are getting tighter ... I'm on to Book #3!
I love Meitner's Charlie Hardwick episodes. They all have a current case but also a recurring situation which is personal to Charlie.Season 2, episodes 7-12, was excellent reading!
