As the events of DARK METAL rock the DC Universe, the creatures of the Dark Multiverse stand ready to invade our world! How can even the World’s Greatest Heroes stop a horde of deadly beings that appear to be powerful, nightmare versions of familiar figures?
Very creepy version of Batman/Green Lantern that has no problem killing! After his parents are murdered young Bruce Wayne is given a power ring; and the first thing he does is kill the robber who murdered his parents! Really like the concept of hero/villain 'mashups' that exist in the multiverse - will follow this character as he evolves!
I don't know whose idea it was to give a kid who just watched his parents get killed in front of his eyes, helpless to save them, to give him one of the most powerful weapons in the universe while in that unstable emotional state, if I was Bruce at that moment I would kill the guy who killed them too. Green Lantern rings shouldn't be given at tumultuous times, where your desire for revenge could affect you to murder someone.
These evil Batmen truly wreaks havoc and death to their own respective evil worlds. As you read these issues, you also see a glimpse of what happened and how it connects to the main DC Metal series.
The strongest aspect of these evil Batmen tie-ins is that they are fvckin' enjoyable to read. It's an all hell break loose, one helluva ride damn good type of stories. Dawnbreaker is yet another fine addition to this. It is so damn good and terrifying it reads as a horror stor story
This Dawnbreaker has so much willpower the ring wasn't able to take it.
Dawnbreaker kills, like what the other evil Batmen do. He doesn't care about who to kill, villain or good person. His constructs are amazingly horrific too. I cannot wait for his bout against the leaguers.
Dawnbreaker is another great addition to the growing collection of DC Metal titles. It deserves a "rock on!" status. Oh yeah.
I think this may be my favorite of the Dark Batmen tie-in issues. Which makes sense since I love Green Lantern. I think this Bruce Wayne has the most... interesting responce to his parents' death? I don't know how to phrase it, but it was just so cool seeing the inner darkness of Bruce.
I like how this story showed Batman being turned to the dark side from the start, just after his parent's were murdered. I've always wondered what would have happened if he gave up on his morality. I'm not really into the whole Green Lantern thing but still liked the backstory tie-in. I found the way Dawnbreaker joined the dark knights/Barbatos' team was through submission rather than ambition. Though Barbatos did offer to bring his dead parents back if he served, it was still a die or join me kinda deal. We didn't see this is the two other previous tie-ins. Barbatos just appeared at the right time and Red Death and Murder Machine just signed up without the need for Barbatos to threaten them into submission. I wonder why this one was different? Maybe the lantern Bats is the most ambitious of them all and Barbatos felt the need to subdue him before it got out of hand. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it... XD Either way, good issue :)
Okay, not great. To me it did NOT add much to the Dark Metal storyline. Just an excuse for another dark take on a What If for Batman. I thought Green Arrow #32 was a much better Dark Metal tie-in that actually added something to the overall story.
Breaking the green lanterns program AWESOME Avenging his parents That's GREAT Killing criminals left and right That's fine.. i guess Shooting Gordon into a pile of bones ahhhh Killing the entire Green Lanter Corp Ok that's too much
WITH THE DARKNESS BACK, I CHOKE THE LIGHT NO BRIGHTNESS DAY ESCAPE MY SIGHT I TURN THE DAWN INTO MIDNIGHT BEWARE OF MY POWAAAA
For something that could've been so lame, Metal has been consistently good so far. Dawnbreaker (the Green Lantern horror version Batman) is downright creepy with its sideways panels and blackout backgrounds and I can't wait to see what The Drowned version brings us.
Of all the Evil Batmen from "Metal", Dawnbreaker became quickly my favorite. The very reason Batman is my favorite hero is that the trauma of losing his parents gave him a noble purpose by dedicating himself to defending Gotham City from crime; and this one-shot shows the opposite, with the Green Lantern Ring, which confused its wielder's lack of fear with young Bruce's emotional void, and instead of using it to protect people, he uses it to inflict pain on everyone, making him a true monster. Despite this, I felt his pain, rage, loneliness, and (to me) his worst fear being materialized, with a green ring making matters worse.
Okay, let me caveat this by saying that I am NOT a huge Green Lantern fan; so, that definitely affects my feelings about this one. As an individual comic, it's okay. As part of the overall series, it's not essential, but it's a suitable tie-in. I think it had a strong start, but it got a little too emo with the poetry. The artwork, however, was really strong and makes this worth it in and of itself.
Overall, I'm really digging the Metal series and the tie-ins and it's nice to see how each of the Batmen came to be so dark.
I know nothing about Green Lantern, but if this is any example, they have immense power. Put that in the hands of a high-functioning Sociopathic Batman, and you have The Dawnbreaker. He is horrifying. Bruce Wayne turned totally evil.
Definitely my favorite of the Dark Batmen so far. The creatures he conjures are straight out of Lovecraft. Awesome stuff!
You have got to read this series if you need a good escape from all the horror of contemporary life. It’s a great escape!
This Bruce Wayne's story is darker than dark. The void inside him has taken precedence. It is what he wants the others to feel. To feel his void. With incredible willpower, he is able to circumvent the rules that governs the ring. Such use of power for the merciless crime, is horrifying. Just shows how limits of good can be broken. This issue was truly dark and savage. Unimaginable and unpredictable. Makes it a captivating read.
This issue is full of some really amazing looking panels with fantastic detail. The idea of a batman with a lantern ring is fun but it does feel as though the story here jumps in great leaps and bounds skipping around a lot. It also felt like it ignores the intrinsic good we often see in Batman's heart but it's a good read all the same.
Sam é um dos roteiristas que eu mais to gostando de acompanhar o trabalho durante essa nova iniciativa da DC e com Dawnbreaker ele fez a mais aterrorizante e METAL edição tie-in dessa mega saga até agora, do caralho.
I'm sorry. Lantern!Bruce's bad emo poetry knocked a star off of this for me. I'm of the opinion that this is the weakest of the Metal tie-ins thus far. I'm not a huge Green Lantern fan to begin with, maybe that made it pretty "meh" for me.
A twisted metal mish mash of Batman, Elseworlds & DC Crisis.
The death of Thomas and Martha Wayne gives a grieving young Bruce the power ring of a Green Lantern Corps member and his revenge makes Atrocitus look like a light weight.
This was, I think, the first truly amazing alternate Batman we've been introduced to. It requires a touch of faith and letting go just a little on the need for realism, but it's a fascinating take on the character of Bruce Wayne.
Fear Of The Dark-In a strange but very cool twist Bruce Wayne becomes a Green Lantern not Batman and because of the tragic death of his parents in this alternate reality he begins to kill anything and everything that dares stand in his way.
I loved this issue. This series within metal is so compelling. I love exploring Batman's psyche more; this one was especially compelling how in that world Bruce gave in to the darkness. This series never disappoints.
An unhinged Bruce Wayne turning into a ‘Dark’ Lantern wasn’t on my bingo card, and the chaos doesn’t end there. Across alternate universes, the rest of the Justice League is about to face a Batman more terrifying than they could ever imagine.
