When the trail of Danyael Sabre’s stolen blood exposes illegal scientific research at a Chinese laboratory, it unleashes a designer drug with terrifying side effects and imperils the decades-long peace between China and America.
NSA analyst Mu Xin, the clone of a Shang-dynasty queen, steps into the fray to stem the chaos, but in a land where ancestral worship and beliefs in incarnation exist alongside cutting-edge genetic engineering, will Xin find herself trapped or liberated by her past?
This is a standalone futuristic thriller set in the award-winning world of the Double Helix.
Jade Kerrion, an award-winning author, got her start in fan fiction. She developed a loyal reader base with her fan fiction series based on the MMORPG Guild Wars. She was accused of keeping her readers up at night, distracting them from work, housework, homework, and (far worse), from actually playing Guild Wars.
And then she wondered why just screw up the time management skills of gamers? Why not aspire to screw everyone else up too? So here she is, writing books that aspire to keep you from doing anything else useful with your time.
She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her wonderfully supportive husband and her two young sons, Saint and Angel, (no, those aren't their real names, but they are like saints and angels, except when they're not.)
Xin is a fantastic book written by Jade Kerrion. This book is the first one that is in regard to the timeline AFTER the Double Helix Collection, and oh my was it a treat. The author now takes advantage of what she has set up in prior books and she does it well. There are some twists hidden in this book that she unravels beautifully. The pace was perfect, never did the author drag out the story nor did she rush you through it. There was so much happening though that you may feel though that the story was a bit fast paced.
What I really enjoyed in this book is the character development of Xin. We learnt a lot about her and so did she it seems. Xin has been pretty much a mystery in all the books so far, someone who pulls strings like a puppet master, someone who has a lot of knowledge and used especially Danyael to avoid some major disaster, someone most didn’t like because of that, so it was interesting to find out what made her tick, to find out how she became HER. It was also interesting to see her and Danyael work side by side to deal with this current issue at hand.
This book definitely also makes it into one of my top favorites, partially because of the plot but also because of the background story of Xin and her interactions with Danyael in this one. I for one can’t wait for the next one to come out. I read the Double Helix Collection first and then all the case files one after the other and couldn’t imagine it any other way. I got a Double Helix overload and it was amazing. Now the wait for the next book begins, and I am not happy about that aspect. But this binge reading was absolutely amazing and it all started with getting a free copy of Miriya.
Fun, easy read. This was perfect for my holiday weekend. I haven't read the rest of the series, but this one was interesting enough to make me want to.
Xin is part of the Double Helix series and Double Helix Women series, this one takes place after the last book. Xin is much like the other with a nice bit of medical science gone wrong. I loved it.
Xin, gee where to start because there's so much you don't know about Xin there is a lot in this book. You discover so much about her past and how it shaped her into who she is. You discover just how guilty she feels for Danyael going to the maximum security prison and almost dying. One night she meets with Danyael and finds out he was going to work with the National Institutes of Health. Danyael has a bad feeling about the people, Xin tells him that as an Alpha Empath his gut feelings account for a lot and should act on it. When she digs a little deeper she discovers some startling information. When she tries to contact Danyael again to warn him she is too late he is already on his way to China. Xin must do something she never thought she would do, she is going back to China... with her mother. Okay so she's not her mother in the traditional sense. When Ching Shih, the clone of China's notorious Pirate Queen Zheng Yi Sao, fled China with a baby Xin, she lawfully adopted Xin as her daughter.
Xin works it out with the Chinese government to "visit" but soon realizes they need her help. A series of murders has been happening the locals are calling it a vampire and there is also a new drug out that is killing people. Xin agrees to help as long as it doesn't get in the way with what she and Danyael have to do. But things go from bad to worse and it seems like all hope is lost, man if she gets Danyael killed Zara will kill her.
Xin is off on her own adventure - trying to save a man whom she'd once betrayed. But in the process, she and Danyael get caught up in a misadventure as a designer drug is having some unusual consequences on the streets of China. I rather enjoyed the resulting twist. We also learn more about Xin and get to appreciate her more. Still, the only character I really like in this series is Danyael, who is always being misused, it seems. A solid 3.5 stars, and recommended for those who like X-Men and Sci-Fi.
