I really enjoyed Karen Erickson's Trilogy of Merry widows historical novellas, so I decided to give this series a listen. It was okay. I did not care for the narrator, and the child character Mattie was not a convincing three-year-old. However, there were some hot sex scenes. I was looking forward to the book two premise more than the others anyway, so I plan to continue with the series.
AFTER READING THE PREQUEL "TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT", I COULDN'T WAIT TO READ THIS SECOND IN THE SERIES ABOUT "THE RENOLDIS". STARTED OUT KINDA SLOW AND NEVER REALLY PICKED UP SPEED FOR ME. DON'T GET ME WRONG IT'S NOT A BAD READ, CUTE STORYLINE, STEAMY SORT OF SEX SCENES WITH A LITTLE TOO MUCH ANGST FOR MY TASTE. IT JUST DIDN'T DO IT FOR ME I WAS SORTA BORED. SINCE THE PREQUEL WAS THE HOOK I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING MORE LIKE THE PREQUEL MADE ME WANT TO READ THE NEXT BOOK (I PRE-PAID FOR IT). IT WAS JUST SOMETHING FLAT ABOUT THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS PAIGE & MATTEO. REMINDED ME OF LOOKING FORWARD TO A GOOD MEAL THEN WHEN YOU TASTE IT THERE'S SOMETHING MISSING YA KNOW NOT ENOUGH PEPPER OR SALT MAYBE A LITTLE MORE SOMPTHIN', SOMPTHIN'? ;D
Paige and Matteo's story starts off right where the first one ended...which is both good and bad, as there was chemistry between them, but they were still fighting the attraction.
This can be fun when it works, and when the scenes where they are fighting the attraction are intense and compelling...but for me, they were missing something. When they were together, I enjoyed the story. But, when they weren't, the story was not really compelling or interesting to me, which made it difficult to stay engaged.
I do recommend the title overall, but it was not a favorite of mine.
So I really wanted to read this one, to find out how it ends, but I felt like this story was a bit too slow. I thought it would pick up a bit, but it didn't, for me.
Paige and Matteo was both stubborn in admitting their feelings but that is what will make you keep on reading to find out what will happen. But other than that, I couldn't say that it really captured my interest that much. I wanted more passion and more drama.
I loved this book, easy read. I really really liked Matty he was the cutest little kid. Paige is great, she is very wise beyond her years and thinks about others way before she thinks about herself. I am glad Matteo finally came to his senses and took a chance with Paige. Although I think she overreacted at the end, but at the same time Matteo was kinda an a$$hole about the whole situation.
We got a little taste of Matteo Renaldi and his nanny, Paige Stewart in the prequel, Temporary Arrangement. It’s available free and while you can easily read this one without it, I think there’s some background information in there that gives you a better understanding of these two from the start. In Tempted By Her Boss, we pick up several months after the prequel and find that Matteo and Paige are both still trying to deal with the fall out of their one slip.
Despite Matteo being reserved and somewhat detached, it’s hard not to imagine his hot Italian good looks and his sexy voice. It’s clear he’s an involved father and it is evident that even though he doesn’t want to, he cares way more for Paige than he thinks he should. I understand him being conflicted; he’s a lot older than Paige, his marriage and his wife’s death left him feeling shattered, and he is her boss. So, I can’t fault him for trying to maintain a professional relationship and not give in to his feelings but unfortunately Paige proves too much for him to ignore.
I feel for Paige because of what happened in her last nanny job she is between a rock and a hard place. The thing is she’d really like to be right up next to the hard place that is Matteo. She can’t help it, in the months she’s been his son’s nanny, she’s fallen in love with the little boy and she has some pretty strong feelings for the father as well. She knows it’s not good but she’s tired of living the lie any longer.
The chemistry between these two sizzles like the summer sun but Matteo continues to run hot and cold which frustrates and confuses Paige. I liked that once Paige decided she wanted to pursue Matteo she put herself out there. I thought her age and inexperience showed in her thoughts and feelings making her very realistic. Their road to a relationship isn’t easy or pretty and they stumble quite a few times. It amazes me that Matteo’s mom, Claudia, is there to help both of them by offering comfort, advice, and she might even give a virtual slap upside the head.
It was hard not to love this book and even though at times the characters frustrated me; I felt their reactions corresponded to their situation. Tempted By Her Boss is a fantastic start to this new series and I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Renaldi family.
I am giving the book a three-star rating instead of the 4 I was going to give it because there is one thing that bothered me. In the novella that's a prequel to this book, Paige explains the situation with her former employers at Matteo and he seems to understand what went on and he took her side. In this novel, he acts like he doesn't know a thing and gets mad at Paige. He acts way to unreasonably for someone who is supposed to know what truly went on. I wanted more scenes with Matty. Paige is supposed to be his nanny, but she barely interacts with him unless his father is in the picture. I didn't like that. Kids are almost always a good way to win over the readers and the author didn't use that chance. The story could have been so much better but something changed between the time this book and the prequel were written. Temporary arrangement was a nicer and more intriguing story. Things are slower in this novel and a little tiring.
So this was a rare "meh" for a Karen Erickson story for me. The whole story seemed so trite. The language used seemed so flowery and overdone. I was looking forward to this based on the prequel, but then it just fell flat. Don't get me wrong, it was a sweet story, but the "voice" of the story seemed so different from other Karen Erickson stories. It made me wonder if she even really wrote this one! I'm not sure I'll continue with this series. I'm not giving up on Ms. Erickson, but I just wasn't thrilled with this one. Maybe I'll change my mind.
I think it worked out great between Paige and matteo.. I wanted more !! I didn't want this story to end but the ending was a perfect one I do admit :-]
The reason I gave two stars was for the end unravelling, which I could see coming from a mile away.
Why is it, does anyone know, that in pretty much any and all romance novels, when things unravel at the end, the heroine will pretty much run off in a snit in about ... 90% cases? Like, I get it, you hit a wall with the hero, but considering how much energy Paige invested in getting Matteo to like her and then to lust for her, you'd think she'd go the final mile to the love part of the equation. And actually, he told her he loved her, then after this problem hit, it was SAYONARA, BOYO!
I lost all respect for her and the book then.
Also, an editor forgot to read through this. I specifically checked to see when the prequel novella was published, and it was prior to the first book, so someone should have told the author in case she forgot (which it looks like she did, but that's ok, it happens, it's why you have people reading after you!) that PAIGE HAD ALREADY TOLD MATTEO ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER AT HER PREVIOUS WORK POSITION. Like, she told him everything, because he demanded the truth - and he was okay with it. Now all of a sudden he apparently doesn't know. It makes no sense.
Otherwise though, I still liked Paige and Matt, to a point. I may consider reading the other books, but truth be told Matt's high-handed brothers don't sound too appealing. Only his sister Stasia does, so I'll see if I can hunt down her book somewhere.
After finishing "Temporary Arrangement" I was looking forward to seeing what was up next for Paige and Matteo and I wasn't disappointed. I loved this sweet romance between the nanny and the hot single dad, especially how it all came an end. The last chapter and the epilogue left me with a smile on my face and a lovely warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.
."Somehow, some way, his little redheaded nanny had left a mark so deep in him, it was as if she'd scratched his very soul."
In this conclusion to Paige and Matteo's story, I saw Paige and Matteo eventually giving in to their feelings for one another followed by a sweet and sexy romance that I loved. It wasn't without a fight though, as Matteo took forever to finally allow himself to act on his and Paige's desires. There were moments when he drove me insane with his mixed signals towards Paige. I really felt sorry for the nanny, who was more than willing to lay everything on the line and commit to a relationship with Matteo. I was actually quite surprised and also admired how bold she was when it came to making a move on Matteo.
."I know I'm your employee. I know that you're my boss. But the attraction is there. I'm sick and tired of denying it."
I enjoyed the relationship that Paige and Matteo shared and I just adored little Matty. They made such a cute family and Paige fitted in so perfectly. This really was a lovely happy after romance that contained some hot and steamy action. Once Matteo had given the green light on his and Paige's romance, he turned into an insatiable sex Beast! Lol. I expected some red hot scenes and I was definitely given them.
."...Like this Paige, just the two of us, I will command you. However I want you, I will have you."
This story was a quick read with enough swoon and sex to keep me turning those pages.
Well this has mixed reviews but I actually kind of liked it. It was obvious this would be a hot story but it was actually very sweet too. Matteo is a very hard working CEO who has been successful in his family business. He’s also a widow with a 3 year old son, in need of a nanny. Paige has just lost her nanny job after being fired for apparently having a fling with the boss’ husband, even though the real reason was he tried to force himself on her and she fought back. Right place right time and Paige meets Claudia in a cafe, Matteo’s mother and they immediately hit it off, but what happens when Paige meets Matteo??? This was a sweet story, nice plot, and characters. It had some angst and I did feel a bit frustrated at times just wanting them to give in to their feelings but they get their eventually. Some sexy parts but more loving than sexual. This was a nice read that I would recommend if you want an easy going read with a lovely romance.
I was on board with the forbidden love affair between boss and employee but this is ridiculous. Get it on already. Second book in the series 50% in and still no action. Only the blubbering “We shouldn’t. We can’t.” Which only leads to “But I can’t help it.” and all they do is kiss. Not even heavy petting. A freaking kiss. Matteo is bordering on 40 and she’s in her 20’s and kissing is all they do. He’s a widower and she’s the nanny. It’s not really forbidden. They make it seem like it’s downright taboo for a single man to desire after an equally available younger woman.
I DNF’ed at a little over 50% into book two. I’m not continuing the series and I would only recommend if you enjoy the slow, languid, downright nonexistent burn of a forbidden (not really, I mean come on) lust affair.
This was enjoyable enough, and I felt I pretty much had to read it immediately after the novella that set the stage for this book if I wanted any resolution. I liked Paige well enough, but felt a little meh about her and how she was letting these dicky guys define her life. Who moves all the way to NYC to be a nanny?? And has literally no life outside of the nannying. She was setting herself up for heartache. Matteo was nice enough, even though he should have put the hurt on his brothers for being jerks to Paige, especially knowing how vulnerable she was. Also, his jerky reaction to the bad press that fishwife published about Paige? Ugh. No matter if he was jealous or not, he never should have approached Paige like it was true (or even that he suspected it was). I know that was to create conflict, but was lame. Enjoyable enough in the end.
There is very little plot, too much melodrama, and a rescue at the end so much like 70's and 80's style Harlequin Presents that the sex threw me. Those old books alluded or left out the sex completely so to have raunchy sex scenes in this one was a bit of a peculiar mix. Maybe if the characters had been more realistic it might have worked, but the sweet nanny and brooding Italian boss are so cliche that it's just a painful read. It doesn't help that the book was taken apart and put back together at one point and still has the chopped up bits left in it.
Not an easy read did not flow well and the heroine Paige I found annoying in the extreme. Wandered from a wimp to a woman page after page and Matteo the so called hero was a pain in the behind too. The one delight in the book was his son Matty and his mother Claudia although just bit players. I finish books I begin even those that are muddy and so when this finally drew to a close I was relieved. 2.5 Stars is all it gets from me but read it for yourself and make up your own mind.
This book is well written with a nice 'story' it was an easy read to pass the time with some great steamy moments that felt right for the plot not just added in for sex. However the story is not very original and quite predictable. I felt it was missing the 'big declaration' and feel rather flat at the end.
I'm not disappointed to have read it however it will not be one I re read in the future and I'm not too bothered about reading the brothers stories either as there wasn't enough interest created.
This was the first full book for me from this author and can I say “dramatic much?”
I really tried to like it but these characters were whiny, childish and dramatic.
It just went from one extreme to another. One minute, they can’t be together but the next they are thinking about forever. One minute, “you hurt me”, next minute, “I love you”. And the conversations that each of them had seemed so unrealistic. I’m fine with some over the top scenarios since I read for the escapism, but this was just too much for my liking.
Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be reading any more books from this author.
3.5. Great sexual tension and fantastic kisses/love scenes. The hero's giving into the heroine and then pushing her away again, for the exact same reasons, over and over again, drove me nuts though. It was great for keeping the tension high, but from a character standpoint it started to feel frustrating and redundant after awhile. Or maybe it's just that the heroine put up with it longer than I could/would have in her place.

Matteo Ramaldi, single billionaire is in need of a nanny for his 3 year old son. His mother is interviewing for the position when she meets Paige in a coffee shop. Later Matteo meets Paige and instant sparks fly.
Their eventual relationship is a rollercoaster of emotions for both. I didn’t care for Paige’s constant need to run away from everything. I waited for her to grow a backbone but she never did. Not sure this relationship would last.
This is a completely new author to me and I am so glad to have picked up this book as it was beautifully written and very realistic. Matteo doesn't want to fall for his sons nanny, Paige, but he does and it causes lots of indecision on his part as well as sleepless nights. These two are so beautiful together that it was an absolute pleasure to read this book. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
That's how the story felt. I want you....no we can't. Kiss me..... oops we can't cross that line. Never really pinned down what was the whole drama with Lucia. Matteo comes across as strong one moment and then scattered the next. The characters need more depth. Overall story was ok, nothing extraordinary. No cheating or cliffhanger and you get a happy ever after.
Was not impressed- the characters felt stilted and wooden, not at all developed, not even that likable... in my opinion, of course. The writing just seemed, idk, juvenile is the best way I can describe it. There was also way too much innuendo and allusions to past family scandal, without any information given. Yes, this is a series, but this was the first book- don't make these vague references without any context.
This one is about a Nanny who falls for her boss. It didn't really do it for me, I felt like it plodded along with the odd sex scene just walloped in for the hell of it. There was no chemistry between Paige and Matteo, no inclination as to why they even fancied each other given that he was a massive dickhead.
