Lisa-Marie Cabrelli mostly writes fun, flirty beach reads but a recent re-entry to education has her shifting her writing focus. She graduated with Distinction from the University of Dundee earning an MLitt in Crime Writing and Forensic Investigation. She also won the Val McDermid prize for best dissertation which was a portion of her upcoming novel, Bad Boys. She's currently working on the first book in a dystopian trilogy while pursuing a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, also with University of Dundee.
Lisa-Marie is a digital nomad, living on the road with her husband, but primarily hanging in Scotland, Italy, Florida and The Bahamas. She has a grown-up daughter who she misses every day.
A pure romantic adventure with all the pitfalls and joys! A must read!
I Loved this book the third in the series - Nanditas story. It took me to so many places in my head and I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me cheer. Most of all, it made me feel really good after I finished. The characters are real and the emotions are so true to the heart you feel the emotions WITH them - all their frustrations and joys! This is a must read, especially if you love naive, chaste and pure romance! You see and feel the love so pure without any graphic descriptions. I will not read graphic romance novels when I find you can get the same feelings across without those dscriptions as this book proves. I can't wait to see what Lisa-Marie has up her sleeve for the next adventures and romance. I received an ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are truly my own.
Indian culture meets American civilization in Uncharted. Uncharted is the story of Satish's sister who escapes a father stuck in the dark ages of Indian tradition and the arranged marriage that he is desperate she honours. Running into the protective arms of her brother and with a wish to continue her education at Princeton, Nandita begins her transition from a naive girl to a world wise woman.
This was a cute romance and once again the cultural differences made this book entertaining reading.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
OMG I love this book too. Nandita is so focused on finishing college and getting into Princeton that she has avoided men, parties, and everything that goes along with being a young college student. Five years ago she ran away from her home in India to get away from her controlling father and an arranged marriage to someone she has never met but only written letters to. She ran to her brother Satish in America so she could be free to go to college like she wanted and be able to choose to marry for love. Now that she graduated and Princeton has rejected her application she is devastated and trying to figure how she can stay in America before her visa expires at the end of summer. She moves into the apartment Satish had obtained for her to stay in until she was supposed to start school in the fall. She keeps seeing this guy following her and finally confronts him and instead of a stalker she believes he was just too shy to talk to her. They start dating and falling in love but Nandita is still looking at her last option of "green card marriage" and hasn't said anything to Ravi. Ravi is somewhat trying to convince her to go back to India because her father is blackmailing him. What happens when Ravi finds out that Nandita is supposed to be getting married to someone else while still seeing him? What happens when Nandita finds out the truth about Ravi why he was telling her to go back home? What happens when Nandita and Satish find out that Ravi is actually the same person Nandita was arranged to marry years ago? Does she ever go back to India to see her mother again?
Finally! Headstrong, sexy, and independent Nandita gets her own story! I've been wondering if the spoiled, stubborn, sometimes selfish and bratty gal would ever mature enough to be ready for a real and lasting love. And, in this novel, it seems that she has at last "come into her own". But, she has to endure some trials and withstand some unexpected situations along the way, before she arrives at her HEA destination.
As always, I was impressed with Cabrelli's ability to draw me in so deeply, that I started to experience Nandita's emotions along with her. I keenly felt her happiness, despair, hope, fears, anxiety and sense of accomplishment and triumph. She had me laughing, cheering and even shedding a tear or two. The heart strings were definitely firmly tugged.
The plot moved along at a steady pace and was interesting the whole way through. Once I started the book, I really didn't want to put it down! This was one of those reads, that I stayed up WAY too late to finish. But, I just couldn't help myself.
I was delighted to see some of my favorite characters return and learn how their stories had progressed. It was the added touch needed to tie the Jersey Girls series up, perfectly, with a neat, pretty bow. I enjoyed every book in this series SO MUCH, and I eagerly look forward to what Cabrelli has in store for her readers, next!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Uncharted is the last of Lisa-Marie Cabrelli’s Jersey Girl books. As much as I am sorry to see this delightful series come to an end, I feel it came to a very satisfying conclusion.
The story centers around Nandita, a young Indian woman who has been studying in the United States with her focus on being accepted at the Princeton University School of Architecture. When her dream does not go according to plan, Nandita is faced with the unhappy prospect of being forced to return to India.
What happens when she takes matters into her own hands? There is the possibility of an arranged marriage (just like she left home to avoid!). She can hope that her brother will apply for a sibling visa or that she can find a job that will sponsor her for a work visa. Then there is the matter of a mysterious stranger who seems to be watching her. Although many (and probably most) of us will never be in that situation, the author certainly helps the reader feel Nandita’s anxiety and frustration.
There are a few tantalizing surprises awaiting you in this story. Although I admit to figuring out the identity of the mystery character quite early in the book, there were moments where I would read something and second guess myself.
For those who have read the first two books, you will be happy to see some earlier relationships reach a final resolution.
Although Ms. Cabrelli provided me with a proofreading copy of this book, I have also pre-ordered the final version so that I can read it again – this time simply for pleasure. I’m already eagerly anticipating her next series.
This review is completely voluntary as I enjoy sharing her work with others.
I enjoy this series and the focus on the different important characters as they change their life situations. This is the story of Nandita, the younger sister of one of the first characters we met. She has just graduated from college and is awaiting her acceptance letter from Princeton. She has discovered a stalker watching her, and she is ready to move on with her next phase of life. Only her plan and what actually happen are so far apart!
Nandita comes across as a strong woman with equally strong goals in the other books of the series. At first we see her the same way in Uncharted, however, the more I read, the more I discovered she was actually very self-centered and selfish. I got a little tired of her whining when challenges prevented her from getting what she wanted. I guess I wasn't the only one, as she eventually gets some tough love!
Although I raced through the first two books in the series, this one didn't seem to motivate me to read as quickly. Perhaps I couldn't relate to Nandita as well as previous characters. It was still a good story and entry into what is currently a trilogy. Just not my favorite.
Another excellent book in the Jersey Girls series. Many of the characters in Uncharted have already appeared in Lisa-Marie Cabrelli’s two previous books, Unraveled and Unstoppable, all books are a complete standalone without cliffhangers.
Uncharted - For the last four years Nandita has concentrated solely upon her college studies in her ambition to further her education at Princeton, but against all her expectations, she is not accepted. Her visa is coming to an end and she's desperate to stay in the US by whatever means possible. In her single-mindedness, and against the advice of family and friends, she devises a way to avoid returning to India. To complicate her life even further, Nandita realises that she's being shadowed by a handsome, mysterious man. Will Nandita eventually find a way to achieve her happy ending? And who is her stalker?
I was delighted to receive an ARC of Uncharted from the author and my review is completely unbiased.
I just finished reading book 3 of the Jersey girls and have to say I was greatly surprised with how good it was. I expected a fun story but was surprised with how many times I laughed and groaned. Gotta love girls in their young twenties that have just graduated college. Satish's little sister Nandita's story and just a hoot to read. I loved that everyone from the other 2 books showed up to. I also liked that all the characters in the book were real with ups and downs like a normal person. Though Nandita made me want to head slap her and say get a clue even though I was on her side the whole book. My honest review is that it was a well written funny contemporary romance that I read all in one setting as I found it to be addicting and had to see what Nandita would end up doing. I was not disappointed. Loved the ending.
The third and last book in this series is a wonderful romantic journey, with all the highs and lows you would expect in a book about love, marriage (both arranged and not) and commitment.
The characters have diverse backgrounds that bring such a wealth of experience to their situations; you will want to laugh, to cry, to groan in frustration and shout with joy!!
This book is about Nandita, who we have met before, and her growing up from a somewhat idealist, naïve and selfish (or at least lacking in self-awareness) girl to a woman who is really trying to be the best version of herself to find love and finally give love and respect in return!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
A very controlling Indian father in India makes life very difficult for his family. His son escapes to America. His daughter refuses to marry her arranged husband. She follows her brother, setting her heart on entering Princeton university. When her application is refused, despite excellent results, she is stuck. Her visa is about to expire. While she longs for her mother, she cannot bear to see her father again, so going home is not an option. In desperation she consents to an arranged marriage to obtain a green card. There is just one major problem. A very attractive man seems to be following her, and then she falls in love with him.
I found this story fascinating learning about arranged marriages in India. I really liked the character of Nandita. She is such a strong female character in her beliefs and desires. She is also very stubborn and does not want to receive help from anyone to reach her goals. This is a great story that will tug on your emotions. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write and honest review.
This third story was great. It continues with everyone from the previous stories, but focuses mostly on Nandita. The irony of Nandita's happily ever after completely steals the show. I don't know if there will be any more books in this series, I hope so. This group of friends and family deserve additional stories.
I loved this book. Nandita's story is inspiring, heart warming and makes you root for her through every struggle and set back. The glimpses into the other characters continuing stories are an added bonus! I know I will return to this book again and again to relive the wonderful journey
At first when I started reading this book I thought that it was going to be about college students and college life. It wasn't at all about that. This is quite an interesting story dealing with two very different cultures.
Loved the story and kept me wanting more. I did not want to put my Kindle down when my breaks were over at work. Will read the other 2 books in this series.
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
Yay! Nandita gets her own story! In the previous Jersey Girls books we got to meet Nandita and watch her go through some growing pains. She's still young and learning about herself, life, how to make decisions and who to trust, but she's come a long way. Read her story and catch up with the rest of the gang in Uncharted by Lisa-Marie Cabrelli! It's well-written and most enjoyable. I read and helped to edit an early edition of this book but I bought the final book before voluntarily writing this review.
